Favorite Trail:Devil's Den
Duration Product Used:More than 3 years
Price Paid: $200.00
Purchased At:Wally World in 1996
Strengths:Tough frame
Somewhat light for an all steel bike
Weaknesses:No suspension
Bad shifters
Weak cranks
Stem angle
Cheap Tires
Similar Products Used:Trek 6000 (Really no comparison, but it is another mtn. bike)
Bike Setup:Stock, except for my sudden urge to update the bike a little! I just put a new UNO stem and new Tectro V-brakes on it. Not too long after I bought it way back when I had to put new rims on it due to the beating I put on the stock junky ones. I have also put on my Trek's old Botrager tires, which improve the traction a ton.
Bottom Line:I just read another review in honor of a Huffy Scout, so I thought I would do the same. I still ride mine every now and then, and it has been about the toughest Wal-Mart bike I have ever seen. Hats off to Huffy on this one.

Price Paid: $200.00
Purchased At:Walmart
Strengths:Longevity, shimano components
Weaknesses:stock freewheel, stock seatpost, crank
Similar Products Used:Raleigh, Diamondback
Bike Setup:have no idea, its gone
Bottom Line:Well, I finally had to let the Huffy go. It had been enlisted for campus duty, but couldnt pass the test. The 17in. frame couldnt cut it for a 6'1" guy, plus some of the parts started dying. The front hub wouldnt stay tight and the squared holes in the crank started rounding out making the crank arm jiggle. After I replaced the stock seatpost and freewheel to quality parts and before the crank went to crap it was a great beater for campus. Hopefully someone at the pawn shop will find it to be a good bike. It has now been replaced by a Raleigh trail bike and I havent looked back until tonight. This review is dedicated to my 1996 Huffy Scout for its 6.5 years of riding enjoyment. Here's to crappy walmart bikes.

Date Reviewed: February 6, 2002
Duration Product Used:More than 3 years
Price Paid: $200.00
Purchased At:Wally World
Strengths:Frame, rims, paint, styling.
Weaknesses:Rear gear cassette broke a while back which I left broken longer than I needed to due to the fact that I inherited a nice used Diamondback Apex. I guess thats more of a strength in that it allowed me to get a real bike. Also, there is a popping sound which comes from the crank.
Similar Products Used:Walmart or Toy R Us junk bikes, DB Apex, 2001 Raleigh M60
Bike Setup:Stock other than a new rear cassette and aztec brake pads which work really good in the wet.
Bottom Line:Its a cheap bike that has needed some work, but its 6 years old. I bought it in 1996 when my previous junker broke in half while I was doin a wheelie, so it has served me well for a while. Its overall a solid bike which is perfect for riding on the street. It is now being passed down to mom since she "thinks its purtee." If you arent going to be jumping a bike off of curbs and riding it hard, a cheapo walmart bike is fine. You get what you pay for and thats why I rate this high because its a good bike for the money. I would probably still be riding it had I not been given my uncle's Diamondback Apex. This introduced me to the world of quality bicycles and I cant go back. Ive outgrown it so I moved on to a nice midgrade bike. As soon as I get some miles on the tires I can rate it so we'll see how that one goes. Bottom line: Huffy makes a damn good piece of crap.

Strengths:Wow plastic bashguard really works, I never knew a rockring should be weaker than what it protecs (chainrings. At fifty pounds it is good at hitting things, though the tinfoil frame isn't very strong. Great Huffy Parts Dont brake (as long as you don't ride it) Handle bars slip up and down for on the trail adustments. The fake suspension is really ridgid. Plus many other great things about this bike.
Weaknesses:the "NOT TO BE USE OFF ROAD" sticker on the back of the bike sums it all up.

Strengths:This review is for a Zephyr Silvertip(a rebadged Huffy)
Ummm....it's cheap?It was assembled right(Thank God).
Weaknesses:-HEAVY!!(35+ pounds)Can't climb or handle for sh$t!
-18 SPEEDS?!WHAT THE HELL!
-CRAPPY BRAKES!!
-CRAPPY WELDS!!
-CRAPPY PAINT!!
-CRAPPY PARTS!!(lopsided handlebar,weak rims,horrible and noisy cantilever brakes,piss-poor and fragile shifters+deraillers)
-FRAME SIZE IS TOO DAMN BIG!!
Similar Products Used:Dep. store crap
Bike Setup:POS
Bottom Line:If it handles, shifts, stops, climbs, and weighs as much as a Huffy, then guess what you have...

A HUFFY!!

My mom bought this poor excuse of a rig for me(because she wouldn't know what a good bike is if it bit her in the ass).I liked it at first...until stuff started breaking and falling out of adjustment on every ride, the brakes developed a shrill squeal that nothing could fix,and the goddamn tires wouldn't grip for ANYTHING!Can we say "SH$TBOX?"

I got my Rockhopper last summer, and there is a REAL BIKE.This bike is embarrassing!I don't care what bootleg brand it is--it is very obviously a Huffy and the shop I bought it from must take leftover Huffys and repaint+resticker them. When my shifter broke,it took him THREE FU#KING WEEKS to repair it,and gave me a lot of attitude because the part broke! Some service!!I will never buy anything there again.

What a crappy ride...1 chilie!

Duration Product Used:2 Years
Price Paid: $3500.00
Purchased At:Walmart
Strengths:Sweet paint job. Love the wheelsets and bb, cassette could be better, but who cares.
Weaknesses:Ive noticed the geometry can seem a bit sluggish while cornering sometimes. Thats the problem sometimes with these high end bikes, though.
Similar Products Used:Klein Adept Pro, Klein Mantra, Gary Fisher Sugar 2, Sugar 1, Team issue, Intense DH, GT DHI team, Rocky Mt DH bike.
Bike Setup:XTR f/r der, SRAM rocket half pipe shifters, Bontrager Race Lite wheelsets, Race face cranks/headset/bb/seatpost/stem, xtr cassette, WTB Ti saddle, Rock Shox SID SL 100mm air w/ climb-it control, cane creek ad-12 rear shock, Time ATAC pedals, Avid SD MAG brakes, Cat-eye Enduro-2 computer
Bottom Line:Beautiful bike, and you can't beat that price-per-performance. This thing is a wailer on the fast DH/x-country trails, and rips up the competition as far as cross country riding and tight single track goes.

I HAVE noticed a small lag in the turning around fast, tight corners, but by the overall length this is to be expected. Overall Great bike!! The paint job says it all! GO HUFFY!!!

Submitted by Jim a Weekend Warrior from Cooper, AL
Date Reviewed: February 4, 2001
Duration Product Used:More than 3 years
Price Paid: $150.00
Purchased At:some hardware store in Portales NM
Strengths:Cool speckled blue/black paint that's held up perfectly over the last 6 or 7 years, cheap enough that I won't cry if I crack up, nothing has broken yet though I've had to replace the front derailleur cable once.
Weaknesses:crappy brakes, and some of the welds aren't the greatest, but that's more aesthetic than structural so far as I can tell.
Similar Products Used:Murray, Trek, Schwinn
Bike Setup:stock Huffy 18 speed Reno, plus a gel saddle cover, gel grips and a cargo rack
Bottom Line:I wouldn't thrash this bike on a zicky downhill, but it's taken quite a lot of abuse without much complaint, except for a kinked cable and that was entirely my fault. I'm considering installing some good brakes and maybe some other odds and ends (remember, even on a cheap bike, you can still save the good parts for another bike)
I get compliments, though not nearly as much attention as my Schwinn Cruiser Deluxe.
One thing: the most noticeable quality problem I've seen with any dept. store bikes is in the assembly. I've seen kickstands fall off while wheeling a brand new bike out of the store. I'd definitely check the bike over for that sort of thing, and anyone who doesn't have a load of cash should consider Huffy. After all, if you can't afford a Cannondale, would you rather just sit around and mope?

Favorite Trail:downhill ones without horse manure
Duration Product Used:6 months
Price Paid: $99.00
Purchased At:walmart
Strengths:Has a good heft to it. Safer than other bikes cause it weighs more. I know that in a crash the other guy may get hurt real bad but I'll be safe, that's the important thing.
Weaknesses:Not enuff chrome, not enough room for me to put my 'peeing calvin' decal. Brakes caught fire first day.
Similar Products Used:Free spirit, Columbia, Pennys, x-games, pacific, Fisher, Trek, homade wood, homade iron. some penny/farthings.
Bike Setup:Stock except for wheel powered generator headllight/tailight system. And cable operated spedometer/odo.
Bottom Line:I'm sick of gettin ripped off by sissy boys in tight girlie pants trying to sell me them bikes that cost more than my truck. One of them boys showed me a cannondale piece of crap with one of the sides of the fork missing! Plus you were supposed to put batteries in it!.. That cannondell didn't weigh no more than the seat on this here huffy. Plus tight pantie boy tole me I gotta buy a helemunt that cost over thenty bucks and didnt even have a face mask. Excuse me, college boy, that's why you save yore high school football helmunt, for ridin motorbikes and mountaine bikes..

There's a reason guns are made of steel and beer cans that you throw away are made of alumimum. Cause aluminum is cheap crap for suckers. You ever hear of sombody that be done thowed away a gun? not unless they was a dern fool..or he just used it wrong.
That's why I bought me this bike at walmart. You can tell from the weight that it's good, solid steel, must weigh half as much as me, i had to build me a ramp to get it into my truck. I was tickled cause it'l like gittin a motorbike for a hundred bucks, that's bran new and all it aint got is the motor. If you was to take the motor out of a Yamaha YZ 125, it'd weigh about the same!
Plus siince it was from wallmart, you are garonteed that it's made in america by americans..not some communists that eat babies and aren't babtist. Wallmart wouldn't sell nuthin that aint american made.
It was steel for sure cause it had some rust startin on the chrome and the ellen head bolts that hold the shock on. I hit'em with some steel wool and WD40 and it shines now. I put one of those generator lites on it so I don't have to buy batteries, cause the store out here charges an eye-tooth for batteries. Plus the chrome lite opens up and I can stash my chaw up in there.
Only thing tho, is I cinda get winded pusing it up the hills , but now that my boots are broke in, it aint so bad. Sure is fun goin down them hills tho. Nice and stable at speed goin down the hills, just goes right through ruts and vines and trees and bikes and strollers and joggers and stuff. Need to get me a horn I guess..what with no brakes and all... just been draggin my feet to stop, that works fine..

Bottom Line:A dual suspension bike for $100? - I couldn't buy a spare set of wheels & tyres for my old bike for that much! LOL
I could have spent USD500to1000 more on a catchy trademark and nice paint-job, but i spent it on more tangible things.

Strengths:strong frame, 18 speed, not bad.
Weaknesses:brakes, well ok, who needs them, heavy, well, only weiners worry about weight, just kidding, ugly
Similar Products Used:well, nothing similar, I've gone GT
Bike Setup:stocko, except for some nice profile bar ends and new pedals. Oh yeah, It's a Huffy Backwater
Bottom Line:Ok, huffy ain't great, we know that, but this bike lasted me for two years of riding rail road tracks, so it's built all right. the brakes suck, but who needs brakes, it's ugly, and weighs a lot. But still, my first mountain bike! I have since improved my skills (in 4 years, haha, i'm good), and have been sponsered twice. I ride GTs and it's nothing to a GT, but still, it's what got me hooked on mountain biking. I crashed that thing so many times, but it was fixed for real cheap because the parts are nice a cheap.

BOTTOM BOTTOM LINE, it rolls smooth, goes kinda fast, is wrekable, is cheap, and funny, hahaha

Favorite Trail:Lowe Rd. to Mt. Wilson
Duration Product Used:6 months
Price Paid: $99.00
Purchased At:K-Mart
Strengths:It is so smooth on dirt and other bumps. It is balanced very well. It is very dependable at handling surprises in on the road/trail.
Weaknesses:In cold/wet weather, I had some trouble turning the grip shifts.
Similar Products Used:Road bike
Bike Setup:It was pre-built at the store
Bottom Line:You could own a fleet of my bike-(in which I love) for the price of a Cannondale at $5500. I think that if you are starting out in Mountain Biking.. it is really the way to go. It is a fantastic bike. In the last 6 months, I've ridden up to Mt. Wilson 10 times. I've ridden up to other other mountain areas in the Angeles forest and taken it on many other trips. It is really the funnest and greatest bike I've ever had. I lock it when I leave it and honestly, even though I love it, I know I could easily replace it if stolen for its low price. It is just perfect to check out the mountains with-to lock it and leave it. It is solid, dependable and a load of fun. I thought that if I ever had company who wanted to cycle, it'd be a good bike for the guest to purchase.. ride it, then ship it home. It is comfortable, easy to ride.. I could just go on and on. It really has gotten a bad rap.. although if you care to find the real truth.. it is a great a bike for the price-for any price-honest.

Bottom Line:If you are just the occasional rider and dont plan to race professionally, save your money and buy this bike. Dollar for Dollar there isnt a better deal around. Bottom Line:The Huffy 26" Maxx Mountain model# K 6620 0 is a excellent choice of entry level mountain bikes on the market I have puchased a new mountain bike every two years since 1992 at prices from 200 to 499 dollars. When I seen this bike on a Kmart rack I didnt expect to like it, but a closer look at the componants and welds and I was sold. The bike is a pleasure to ride on roads and trails.

Bottom Line:
I just picked up this beauty at my local K-mart and I must say this thing rocks. I looked at all those high end bikes going for $5oo or more and I dont know what all the hoopla is about. The sales maker at K-mart was very helpfull and asured me that this was just as good as any of those other bikes. The only thing is, is that it is a little heavier than those other bikes but I got it for under $2oo and it even has a front shock! I don't know how I ever lived with out shocks before, they really soak up the bumps, especially going downhill. The only thing that I was thinking of upgrading was to Pedal, I have heard alot of good stuff about them. If any one has any sugestions on Pedal please e-mail me.
