Strengths: light, a smooth rideWeaknesses: a little small, but that was my fault for choosing the wrong sizeBottom Line: Basically a great itermediate to beginner bike. I thought this was the best bike I had owned up till now. A great bike to upgrade on. I put new brake pads, shocks, and other components on this bike and it was Awesome

Strengths: Frame, Rims & PriceWeaknesses: Brake pads, RST shockBottom Line: It is a good bike to start with. If you are new to mountain biking this is a perfect bike. Before you spend $$$$ on an bike that you will endup under using get a starter bike like this one until you progress to a more advanced level. The shock is a bit bouncy but still ok to start. I have punished this bike and it still keeps on working well. The new highend brake pads greatly help...these are a must purchase. However, after one year of good riding an upgrade is needed. Either all new parts or simply a new bike. Overall, it is a perfect bike to test to see if you really like the sport.

Strengths: hubs, rims and frameWeaknesses: cranks and forkBottom Line: A good bike for the money and a good bike to build on. The forks aren't bad for moderate terrain, they're adjustable, but you can hardly tell. The breaks need adjusting about every three rides. The cranks flex a little but work a treat. The 6061 frame is responsive and strong. i cant buckle the rims and the hubs hurricane proof. this is a great bike for someone who want to ride trails as well as to work or scool. If you are hardcore dont bother.

Strengths:
Strength of frameWeaknesses:
Brakes, Hubs are susceptable to the wet.Bottom Line: Picked it up as insurance job, have found the bike to be a great fun to ride on the road, and for riding around the below average Sydney Streets, however once I rode it off road the hubs gears filled full of garbage and needed cleaning and complete regreasing (EVERY TIME NO MATTER HOW SHORT THE RIDE!). Great for riding however and due to the not to fancy paint job wasn't stolen like my previous bike....

The shocks are amazing and can be adjusted for the terrain change and it's an overall great bike. This was my first suspension bike and I found it perfect for cross country begginers and Intermidate.

Strengths:
didnt fall apartWeaknesses:
the bikeBottom Line: well, i didnt have my bike and gear, and i went on a trip thinking, hey i dont ALWAYS need to ride on vacation. boy i was wrong, so i rented this pos at a rental place and they sent me off. first off the rst fork SUCKS, no travel, no rebaound control, just MUSHYNESS!!! the components need lotsa work and so does the frame which flexs like its trying to squirm out from under you. i would advise beginners to check out the trek 830, or the ralegh m55 in this price range, actually they are cheaper, and much more usful bikes

Strengths:
Prices, qualityWeaknesses:
Front derailleurBottom Line: Very good, i Crashed a lot with this bike, and ive had not one problem yet, very violent crashes too :). I never really tried a bike with a good High End Suspension so i cant tell if the RST 381 is any good, But I find it good. But when it gets muddy the chain often locks up, a real pain. But i think The Giant ATX 830 is a grat bike for beginners and Intermidaite Bikers

Strengths:

horrible shock
brakes
front deraillerBottom Line: i would advise any beginner to check out the other bikes before settling on the giant 830..had mine for 2 months and im regretting it everytime the front derrailler spits the chain off .its been adjusted (appears that thats the way it goes unless u spend more on a better bike),they don't tell u that until after you've paid for it.the brakes are weak and constantly shift around ,sometimes rubbing on the tire,(again nothing more money wont cure)if i could i would give it back and happily buy anything else..It's a bike for beginners (2 hours a month MAX)..SHOP AROUND PEOPLE,this bike belongs at walmart
