I've had my '97 Wahoo for just under 5 years and The frame is still mint. | | Weaknesses: | Not the best components. Being too cheap to upgrade, the only thing I've replaced is a brake lever I toasted. Granted, everything's still fully functional - so I can't complain - but a lot of the parts coulda held up better than they did. I really should fix the thing up tho .. I've haven't done much riding lately so I haven't worried about it 'til now. | | Bottom Line: | For the price, it's a bloody good ride. Handles beautifully, and takes a good beating. Slap a suspension fork and better shifters/deraileurs on thing and you've got yourself a prize horse.

I bought my 97 Wahoo for $250 at Copeland's and I think I got a pretty good deal (even though they lowered the price after I bought it). I looked at everything in the price range (Specialized, Trek, Jamis, GT, Diamondback, Mongoose, etc...) and almost got a Marin Bolinas Ridge, but I went with the Wahoo because of the $50 bucks I saved and the Fisher Mystique that comes with owning one. Is it a good bike? Damn right it is! Look up the ratings in this site, you won't find a higher ranked entry level bike (OK maybe the Bianchi Ocelot). I have been out of biking since my moto-cross days of the early 80's (I miss my Redline) and the Wahoo has been a great transition bike for me. Of course I had to get a Serfas gel seat (who wants to be numb down under) and I am looking to get some rapid fire shifters, otherwise everything is still working and I am one satisfied Fisher owner. This bike may not excite the biking elite, but it's not meant to. For $250 bucks, you can't ask for more. | | Overall Rating: |

My wife & I bought a pair of leftover Wahoo' and it was a great decision. We paid about $250 each and there is nothing to compare at that price. The handling of this bike is great, it is comfortable to ride and easy to control on any terrain. The components are comparable to most other entry level bikes, but the others cant match the overall package. This bike fits the needs of those who are just starting the whole mountain biking thing. Although the bike is no Fisher Supercaliber, the bike can take rough riding to a satisfying level. If you are looking for a light bike, a Wahoo is not for you. The price paid for the bike is quite a deal, but I would recommend changing the Weinnman 519 rims, and adding suspensions. | | Overall Rating: |

I purchased my '96 Wahoo in June of 1997, after being away from bike riding since the early '70's. Man! Whotta ride! I think Gary Fisher calls it a Wahoo because of the way it makes you feel when you ride it. :-) Another major point for me was the smaller frame sizes GF has, I am a very short person (5'1) and even so the man's frame didn't allow me enough clearance, but I got the women's step through frame and I'm on the road. I've made some minor upgrades, replaced the GripShift with RapidFire style shifters (nothing wrong with the GS, just personal preference) got better pedals, fenders, lights, computer panniers and got slightly less knobby tires and wala! I can use my bike for nearly everything. Quick trips to the store, commuting, off-road, or just tooling around. I did have some minor problems with the brakes, but the warranty was good for that. So far, I can only say good things about my Wahoo. I picked it up for a little less than three hundred and have upgraded to Rapid Fire shifters, a new stem and bars and different pedals. The wahoo is an OK bike. I'm more into steep bumpy narrow off-road stuff, so I NEED a suspension. The wahoo doesn't come with one, yah can put one on but it costs like 200, I'd just get a mamba, cause it comes with one. But thats just me, alot of people I guess just don't do killer trails with 'em so they don't need beter equipment. ALL GARY FISHERS KICK! THEY DO!!! YEAHHH!!!!! I don't actually own a Wahoo, but my riding partner does, and he's very pleased with it. However he was told by a Gary Fisher dealer that it was a sub-25 lb bike, which it isn't. Good?! It's damn good. Go out and buy this bike as soon as you can. This is truly the best bike I have ever owned. I just love flying down hills on this bike with the air streaming past me in turbulent flow (Re>4000+!!!) I've actually spent more money on bike related doctor bills than I did on this bike. 98 Wahoo! Yeah! solid, solid, solid! ... turned out to be a better deal than the 97 Marlin I was about to buy and for slightly less... came with V brakes, SS spokes and bar ends I would've added anyway, and now w/Alivio on the rear end, it's made my afternoons a thrill as I bomb about the woods...not a rattle or a complaint... intense red paint job too... I've had mine for about a year, no complaints. Very forgiving cro-mo frame. Not the best components, but a step above many low end bikes I've tried. This bike is very easily upgradable. With the money you save on the bike, add a susp. fork, new brakes and a new wheel set. You'll have a great all around rig. This bike is no HOO KOO E KOO but rather its little brother. I brought a Gary Fisher Wahoo 1 year ago and it's fantastic. In that 1 year i've riden 3,705km and i've had no tachnical problems so far. I recommend the bike to anyone that enjoys riding a quality Gary Fisher mountain bike. I've riden the bike to speeds of 85km and hour down Morphett Rd in Australia.

I purchased my Wahoo in April so that I'd have something to ride around on with my six year old boy. I hadn't ridden a bike in probably twenty years and didn't envision doing any serious or difficult trail riding. Shortly afterward I discovered that the park behind my house, that I can reach by trail from my back yard has five or six miles of very nice single-track trails. They're great trails with plenty of steep hills, roots, logs, streams, rocks, log moguls, and all sorts of great stuff to ride over, through and around. I'm hooked and sneak out there every chance I get. The bike has done great. I don't have a good base of experience to compare it to other bikes, but it shifts flawlessly, is easy to handle and takes all that I can give it. The trails I ride are rated advanced to expert and so far I don't feel that the bike is holding me back. It's really more the other way around, although I'm getting better all the time. Simply put, I love my bike. I picked it up for $289 and it just seems like a fantastic value. I'm giving it five chili's not because it's the greatest bike in the world, obviously not, but for the money I'm not sure you could find a better entry level bike. | | Overall Rating: |

This is the quickest bike you ever saw. I added a suspension fork, upgraded to STX rapid fires, and added a Serfas gel seat (I like my comfort!). The cro-moly frame is very forgiving, and the short wheelbase is excellent for down-hilling.
I have an extra-short frame, so that might have something to do with the quickness, but this is an excellent bike for the money ($350 with all upgrades but the fork, which was used). I recommend it to anybody starting out. The frame is so resilient, that with component upgrades, I should be able to ride this bike forever. | | Overall Rating: |
