Bottom Line:   
I only bought the frame used at my local shop cause it was cheap and looked pritty bomb proof. It took pritty much everything I could throw at it. however this year after taking a few moderate drops (10 foot) the head tube cracked. my friend has a fisher as well and had the same problem with his. They did replace the bike with a new one and now im waiting for them to give me mine. Ill post a reveiw at a later time tos ay if I got a new one.
still good bike enjoyed it until it cracked out on me.

Strengths:    
USA made, Gary Fisher spec higher than average.


Weaknesses:    
Bob, bob, bob, the lump of meat pedalling the thing.


Bottom Line:   
After owning an FH1 and looking at its weaknesses (see my posting for the FH1) I decided that the FH0 was the way to go. I finally tracked down a second hand example and upgraded with new gear (especially the fork as the 98 XVert-R wasn't my sort of fork). Overall the FH1 comments apply and this bike is fantastic. Everyone who has ridden my bike loves it, however it takes a few rides to get used to the rear end activity when pedalling. Once used to it you don't notice it and the bike just screams 'pedal you loser' as you try to keep up to its abilities. Best asset is the disc brakes - I will never go back to rim brakes again!

Stock shifters are poor


Bottom Line:   
Like the bike, Its heavy though. I am 220 lbs so i upgraded the springs in the front fork. However it sucks. Upgrade it when you have the chance. Been haveing a problem with cables rubbing holes in the frame. Otherwise its a stong ride.

I have to say that I think this bike rules...of course it required significant overhauls before I would leave the store.Top to bottom...Syncros Riser Bar, Azonic 100 stem, XTR Shifters, Raceface Seatpost, Raceface Cranks, Damage Control, LX front derailler, XTR (normal) rear derailler, Marzocchi Z1 BAM forks, Missile Tires Front & Rear, Shimano Downhill Pedals.Once this was all done, I wasn't afraid that it would break too easily on the North Shore. It has faired very well against the other bomb-proof bike around here, and I am still under 30 pounds. Not bad for a free rider.

'98 and '99----A Trek by any other name I suppose---after all, it's made in Wisconsin, in Trek's factory, on the same production/assembly line by the same people building Treks---so just say I LOVE MY TREK! The Fisher name is just that now--a name only---and a marketing tool for greater market penetration for Trek for those too stupid to do any research!! What a bunch of chumps!!

Bottom Line:   


i received the betty as a frameset in replacement for a '96 joshua y that i cracked. it came with the fork and a RS Super deluxe rear shock. that rear shock is a world of difference from the coupe deluxe. having the compression dampening makes this bike ride excellent. i used to feel a lot of bobbing trying to hammer out of the saddle but the compression dampening helped alleviate a alot of it. it is a very stable bike on the descent and it also climbs well. i don't particularly care for the cable routing, but all in all a good ride.

I bought the bike in March and road it the whole summer and I can only say it ist perfekt. The forke is good but not as fine working as a mazzochi, sram shifts are working fine. rearshock is very good and you can adjust it very good.
It´s simply my dreambike

Bottom Line:   


I have had this bike for almost 10 months now and I have a few observations.
1. The fork works great when set up correct(see my XvertR posting)
2. Disk brakes are heavy and not worth the money unless you ride in rim wrecking mud or barrel down the side of mountains.
3. For those who think a URT will not work for anything other than a boat
anchor think again this frame is plush even when standing on the pedals.
4. Time atac pedals are the greatest thing sense sliced bread.
5. Bonty Mustangs when built correctly are damn tough for the weight.
6. Ti bonty riser bars are really cool and really work.
7. Sram 9.0sl works great but is still no substitute for XTR and rapidfire.
8. Sugoi cranks are ok but I prefer the XT that I installed.
9. The stock tires are heavy and dont roll for a sh#$.
10. I love Titec dh kti seats and have put them on my other two bikes.
11. This bike is no crosscountry mount no matter what you do to it,
although it really excels when you can take a chairlift to the top.All in all I did not purchase this bike for much other than Lutsen trips and
an occasional trail ride so it suits my purposes fine.
For those of you looking for a long travel crosscountry bike make sure you
ride before you buy. It does bounce a bit on the flats and forget about
standing and pedaling hard.
Oh and one more thing This bike is HEAVY I would say in the 29 to 31 lb
range for my medium.

I got the frame from a guy who works at Trek, and set it up with my custom components I've got. I love this set up. The frame trajectory is great, and I love the overall feel of the bike. I'm kind of partial to Gary Fisher anyway, but I really love the feel of this bike. It get's five chilis from me.
