Strengths: This is a tough bike, can't beat it. excellent travel for the way the frame is shaped. downhill riding is a breeze along with single trail ridingWeaknesses: it does like to bounce when climbing a hill. the wheels that came on it wore out fast. I was'nt pleased that the front shock was too weak for a disc setup.Bottom Line: for what I payed for at the time was a good price due to the technology at the time, but, I think for $2000 they should have not put the front fork it has on it, due to not being able to handle disc brakes. But, on the good side of things, it is still riding like it was 9 years ago.

Strengths: Agile and fast on single track, plush ride, bomb-proof, looks really cool and always attracts attentionWeaknesses: haven't found any yetBottom Line: Great all around X-country bike. It handles single track stuff like a guided missile, and has just enough suspension for a recreational rider to handle the rough stuff and still come home without being beat up. I've trail ridden this bike more than 1,000 miles since 1997, and haven't broken anything on it yet except the rear derailleur hanger (my fault endo). I also own and ride a Schwinn Factory Homegrown (always breaking), and a Klein Mantra Comp., but my favorite to take out and beat on is the C-dale hands down. I highly recommend this bike to any recreational rider looking to upgrade to full suspension, or who is just tired of having thier bike in the shop for repairs. This thing is almost indestructable and fun to boot.
Favorite Trail: anything gnarly and twisted

Strengths: Very strong, extreamly strong fork, smooth.Weaknesses: a little heavy but nice.Bottom Line: This bike is super stiff although ive bottomed out the forks once or twice with 4-5ft drops, land it right and they'll be ok. Really smooth ride and worth the money. I run the 97 model which means i cant run discs. Overall an exellent bike which should be bought if ya see one around!!!!

Strengths: Strong frame that offers a bulletproof component package. Front and rear shock dampener settings allow the rider to adjust the suspension based upon rider weight and trail conditions. This bike has travel, travel and more travel. According to the bike shop technician, there's 5 inches of travel in the back and 4 inches of travel in the front. Can't say enough good things about this bike. Eventhough it's a 1998, it still gets lots of looks!Weaknesses: Bike is approximately 30 lbs.. Most of the extra weight is due to the Moto shock which is well worth it's weight.Bottom Line: No Complaints with this bike. If you like hammering technical sections and bombing down the hills this bike is for you.
If you pride yourself on using technique through the rough spots buy a hard tail.

Strengths:
Frame (position, made), rear shock (Fox RX), fork (Moto FR).Weaknesses:
Weight and wheels (hubs). No negative spring (fork).Bottom Line: No real weakness, because weight is not really important, for me. It's a pleasure to ride on this bike: x-country (cool) and free-ride (hard). Suspensions are amazing, especially the fork: very stiff, damping control.
This bike is a killer.

Strengths:
Its frame is so strong. I once took it off a 10 foot drop off and it still holds up to that. The moto fr fork is very plusha and the rear shock kicks some hard ass.Weaknesses:
I havent really found one yet. it climbs like a beast and decends the same way.Bottom Line: this bike is the kick ass bike of them all. It tears up roots and rocks, and is the strongest thing next to superman. It is like a machine. I give it 20 thumbs up, it is the extreme. If you can find one i would suggest that you buy it, it will definently be worth your time.

Strengths:
Solid frame and Moto fork.
Smooth suspension.
Great for the rocks and roots trails here in New EnglandWeaknesses:
A little heavy, though it is not noticeable when riding.
Stock LX V-Brakes,
Paint wears off very easily from cable rubbing.Bottom Line: This bike is great for the rocky and tree-root infested trails I ride on. It is a little heavy (when I'm loading it on my roof rack), however when riding, the weight is down low and is not apparent. The 2 complaints I have with the bike are the stock LX V-brakes were not adequate (especially during the mud season here in New England) and the paint is very easily scratched from brake and shifter cables rubbing against the frame. Perhaps a better job could have been done by C'dale for the routing of these cables. I've had my SV 1000 FR for 2 years and I still enjoy it just as much as the first day I rode it. Earlier this year I added a set of Hayes hydraulic disc brakes and Mavic CrossLink rims. The addition of the disc brakes was well worth the cost and I highly recommend this upgrade to anyone with this bike. Thsi bike is bulletproof!

Bottom Line: Paul- I can see by the way you left all the Cannondale reviews that your an obsessive-compulsive dick. Since I can guess that this is your normal state of mind, the C'dale rep was probably sick and tired of your whinning, complaining shit and blew you off. If you handled youself in a normal, cool biker, kind of way, you would be sitting on a new rig as we speak. Since I can't speak for any other C'Dale rider but myself, let me say Ta' hell with you!!!

Strengths:
Strong, well crafted frame. Lifetime warranty.Weaknesses:
Rear shock. Can tend to Bob even with smooth cadence. 70mm cranks feel to short.Bottom Line: I have around 500 miles in it so far and it doesn't even feel broken in. One of the smoothest bikes out there and better price to performance ratio than either the Specialized or the GT. The Fishers were nice but if the frame is so good, why have to add gussets. You can still find these for $1700-1800 which is a steal considering a $2400 original asking price. Of course a freeride bike in south FL sounds a little extreme, since the only drop you'll take around here is if you fall from a building, but this is still the most comfortable rig out there (That a poor slob like me, could afford anyway).

Strengths:
Solid Bike, handles great, very plush ride, strong forks, great shock, and the quality is A1.Weaknesses:
Coda crankset, and rotary shifter controlsBottom Line: Great bike at a great price, paid $1,599. Does everything very well. Very solid feel, handles great, strong bulletproof triple clamp Headshok forks, and FOX Vanilla Rx shock. It is easy to lock out the shock and forks for climbing, the best of both worlds. If you can still find this 98 model, buy it, you won't be sorry.
