Bottom Line:

We (my girlfriend and I) have had this bike for 18 months now. We put it thru some serious off-road use and it holds on just fine (Went thru one rear XT hub, an XTR cassete, several chains, and a few sets of tires). As the bike stands now, it deserves 5 stars. I'm giving it only 4 because it came with slick tires and a too-high gear-ratio (both 'problems' were taken care of by my LBS). Obviously Cdale did not intend it for serious off-road use.

Obviously Cdale did not intend it for serious off-road use. Also the original Crankset were absolute pieces of s**t (Again my LBS took care of replacing them with better quality parts as part of the warranty).I would recommend off-road tandeming in-general, and this bike specifically with all-heart. The good thing about the Cdale is their excellent strength/weight ratio. The harshness of Aluminum seems to be less of a problem compared to regular (single) bikes.BTW, putting the pair of slick tires back on bikes transforms it to a very worthwhile road-touring bike.
All in all, one of the best purchases I’ve ever made.
