Favorite Trail:Chickasaw Trace
Duration Product Used:1 Year
Price Paid: $400.00
Purchased At:eBay
Strengths:Lightweight, great ride and geometry.
Weaknesses:The shape is a little inconvenient at times when mounting on my rack. Aside from that I have had NO problems. In facts the thing has taken a beating like a champ.
Bike Setup:XT front and back, Brooks saddle, Mavic wheels, Coda crank, blah, blah, blah.
Bottom Line:It is super responsive and climbs like a beast. This is my 4th bike in 2 years. I started riding at that time and did not really know what I wanted. I started with an entry level, then I bought a Gary Fisher which rode good, it just was too heavy. Then I built up my own full-sus, and decided I wanted to scale down to a lightweight hardtail. I love this bike and it is the keeper. I have thought about buying a second one a couple of times since you can get them cheap on eBay, and they are long gone out of production.

extremely smooth bike that is quick as you can minipulate. get one if you can.. i love mine and will never paar with her. to many paychecks and to much time to a see a fully polished aluminum frame with all candy parts leave my possesion...

Strengths:This bike is probably the best out there!!! What more could you possibly want out of a bike? Good looks, light weight, awesome colors, and responsive like no other!!!
Weaknesses:Cannondale does not make it anymore....well...unless the Prophet suites your needs!! But, nothing like the good old hardtail!!!!!

Purchased At:Local Bike Shop
Strengths:Light and Stiff frame. I ride some pretty crazy stuff on this bike and it's still as good as ever (no cracks, dings, etc). I Bought the frame and built it up. This frame is amazing. I bought it in 95' and it still performs the same as new.
Weaknesses:Mine is 1 1/8" head tube. Unable to upgrade to Cannondale suspension. Not made anymore
Similar Products Used:Marin
Bike Setup:Manitou front shock, Gripshift, Shimano xt derailleurs, mavic 517/Shimano lx wheelset, FSA orbit mx Headset
Bottom Line:I you're looking for a great bike for XC or even slalom/urban, this is it. This Bike has been the best investment I could have made. I will always be a fan of Cannondale. I will have this frame until it brakes, if it does. Definately worth the extra money to get a bike handmade in the USA.

Price Paid: $1100.00
Purchased At:frontier bike shop
Strengths:great frame, rigid, weilds, light weight, looks
Weaknesses:only weakness is the low end components, CODA, to pretty of a paint job, slightly over priced but I love it
Similar Products Used:Dback's, Ralieh M60, Univega Rover (actually none of those are close to similar, I've just had those in the past)
Bike Setup:stock 97' kv900ht
Bottom Line:I bought this bike back in 98 when I was in high school riding a lot and doing a few races. I knew that this frame was good enough to keep for years (6 yrs later). I'll probably keep it until the frame breaks. I am now to the point of replacing the components which was needed long ago. I can't say I've ridden a bike like this one before. I'm now planning on installing a Lefty, since the DD60 headshock has seen better days (great fork though). Anyways this is a great bike and you can probably get it between $400-$500 if you can find one. I wish Cannondale still made this bike.

Strengths:Awesome look, VERY light weight, god i love this bike.
Weaknesses:rough ride on bumpy trails.
Similar Products Used:i owned a 1997 and now i JUST purchased a 1998. they BOTH rock/rocked.
Bike Setup:must be good cuz i have NO complaints.
Bottom Line:i owned a 1997 Cannondale Killer-V 900 (paid $550.00) from Team 2 Racing.. now i just bought a 1998 Cannondale Killer-V 900 (paid $598.00) from E-Bay. the guy selling it figured it would go for about $375-$400, unfortunately it didn't stay too low. i'm positive it's well worth it though, that's the only real 'expensive' bike i ever owned and it is the whole reason i ever got into biking. now i've been riding this 30lb. Schwin Mtb. Bike as a temporary bike and it just doesn't even compare. i'll always be a die-hard fan of the Cannondale Killer-V 900.

Similar Products Used:01'Cannondale F700, 94' F606/ F500.
Bike Setup:Purchased Manitou 3 forks in 94, Clubroost riser bars, Spin wheels.
Bottom Line:I loved this bike, it was recently stolen. It handled woderfully when I took it up the ski lifts at Snoqualmie. It' too bad Cannondale stop making the Killer V. I am not too impressed with their newer bikes. I just replaced it with a 2001 Klien Adept Comp. Anyone ever noticed the similarities in the frame design, hmmmmmmmmm. Well don't fight it, just ride it.

Favorite Trail:Rhondda Heritage Park
Duration Product Used:More than 3 years
Price Paid: $1200.00
Purchased At:Findon Village Cycles
Strengths:Frame Quality and attention to detail, Strength with low weight, polished aluminium finish.
Weaknesses:Components; poo pedals, heavy seatpost, 'unusaual' rocker system on the canti's, little frame space for second bottle.
Similar Products Used:Kona.
Bike Setup:Most of the 94 spec has worn out now, the wheels were surprisingly well built (Wolber rims on LX) but the braking surfaces went, so replaced with nice Mavics. USE seatpost, Hyperlite bar, XT V brakes, Onza Porcipaws (remeber them?), Shimano SPuDs. Kept the bike with it's roots: Still using the rigid Pepperoni forks.
Bottom Line:I bought this bike in September '93 and it was so light I was almost scared I would snap the frame. Eight years on it survives and still looks the business due to the polished finish. The bike has been ridden hard during it's time, and the handling has remained tight. Real nippy, a great accelerator, but it took me some time to find a good setup at the front end. It's got quite a short top tube so a layback seatpost is a good idea if you're tall. The box section chain stays are a bit flexy if you give it some sideways force. Rear braking doesn't need a booster because of the rocker hanger which spans the seat stays.

Purchased At:sun &ski (houston texas)
Strengths:super stiff frame for larger riders. p-bone fork is brutally stiff.
Weaknesses:none, other than coda products
Similar Products Used:cannondale f-500
Bike Setup:kore 3lite stem, shimano deore cranks, xt rr derailleur, lx fr derailleur, lx shifters, lx v-brakes and levers, coda weave grips (the only good CODA product), rhynolites 36 h. w/ deore hubs, generic giant riser bar, irc notos 26x2.1 tires
Bottom Line:i bought this bike with insurance money i got after being sideswiped by a motorcycle in 1996. the coda cantilevers were the first thing to go. i rode the original frame for two years until it cracked, thank god i caught the crack before catastrophic failure. it took a month to get the frame replaced, but well worth the wait. the replacement frame has held up great. i'm a bike courier in d.c. and i ride this bike 5 days a week on streets that are rougher than most west coast singletrack, then i ride it off-road on week-ends. the only trail that has made me whine on this rigid bike is gambrill yellow trail, and only because it's more like a six-mile rock path. the bike climbs like a rocket, even with my 220 lb, 6'3" body on it. since i swapped out the 150 mm coda stem and coda handlebars for a 130 mm kore stem and 1/2" riser bar, descents are much more controlled and fun. climbing over built up logs (a staple for good xc trails here in maryland) is great. i swapped the fork for a manitou sx-r at one point, but that lasted like a month. i simply like the feeling of knowing that with a rigid fork, wherever i place my front wheel, that's where it'll be. now instead of running a suspension fork, i simply run my tire pressure at about 45 lbs. i might be a little slower on sketchy technical descents but i always make up lost time on technical ascents.

Purchased At:some dude
Strengths:lots of stand over clearence, no flex
NOTE: one strength of my killer V is that it came with the standard 1 1/8 headset tube and a T bone rigid fork. No headshok.
Weaknesses:no flex, built for small people
Similar Products Used:a few full suspension bikes
Bike Setup:white bros. fork, Bon. race wheels, various other goodies
Bottom Line:Damn nice frame. This thing climbs like a tractor. On several occasions I have swopped bikes with others on climbs and the Killer V always seems to go up hills easier. Going down isn't as pleasant though. You do feel every last bump.

It's a shame C-dale doesn't make this frame anymore.

Favorite Trail:Any trail
Duration Product Used:6 months
Strengths:The frame is extremly light and strong. The triple triangle body frame is excellent for sturdiness and sizing. Climbing is not a problem. Invisible welding and great paint job makes the frame an exquist form of art. Cannondale is known for their frames.
Weaknesses:Cannondale weakness...HEADSHOCK Forks. Cannondale needs to come out with a better fork. They did...but it only has ONE LEG! But, I won't knock it...until I try it.
Bike Setup:'98 Cannondale Killer V frame, '99 Marzocchi Superfly, x517 Mavic Rims w/ WheelSmith Spokes, Hutchinson Python Gold tires, XTR: V-brakes (front & back); Derailuer (front and back); Brake and Shifter Pods, 9 speed cassette, Mega 9 and XT cranks, XT hubs (front and back), Chris King headset, Titec stem, handle bar and seatpost, and a Specialized Body Geometry Split saddle.
Bottom Line:This bike is a great set up. It definitely rides very good...and also looks great! One of the lightest, stongest, durable bikes out there. I set this up to a perfection! If I could only give it 100 chilis...I would. It's that great!

Duration Product Used:

Strengths:
Extra responsive, Light, climbs so well it goes uphill on it's own(which for me was why I bought it). Super short rear stays.
Extra top over clearance due to the triple triangle frame. Loved the fact it came polished not painted
Weaknesses:
the extra stiffness can mean I need new teeth after the more serious downhills

Bike Setup:

No sus whatsoever
LX/XT througout (except it came with a couple of Coda bits which turned out to be Sugino or otherwise rebadged)
Moved onto V brakes from the original canti's (LX 'cos the XT paralelograms wobble too much)
Bottom Line:for more than 5 years I've been riding this machine with no problems whatsoever. Reluctantly got talked into replacing it with a full sus.
I'd say this was a superb bike for anyone who wants do something other than downhill racing
