It's a very fast bike compared to other's I'd rode. This was an original killer v 2000. I can't remember what I changed, apart from the rims. I purchased this stallion 5 years ago from a bike shop in Atlanta for $700(my 2nd mtn bike, first was a Giant Iguana. Durable bike, too heavy.). Blew out all the major components in two months (cranks, fnt.+rear derailleur, btm. bracket, head set, pedals, seat x 2,front wheel, etc.) Fully upgraded everything, mostly top o' the line (chris king, xt cranks, xt wheelset, sachs new success,un72, onza pedals, vetta tt., Manitou 4 [best at the time] etc.. After mtn. biking for these past years, I've come to realize the faults (some of which I knew going in) that comprise a Cannondale frame -- the frames can snap in half like a toothpick and the welds are sanded down because they slop them together. Aside from that, this is one of the lightest, stiffest, most responsive frames on the market. You can really jam on it and because I'm not an expert rider by any means, I know this bike can be crashed, slammed, kamikazied and all around fully abused. Paint's chipped in some places (chain slap and grind, dropouts, etc.), got a few minor dents but otherwise fine. I think to cleave it in two you must nail it at a sharp angle on a rock.Made a few upgrades to it recently including XTR V-brakes, a Performance Ti saddle and some old M-727(?)pedals. My opinion of the mtn. biking industry? Too much hype about what you need to be a better rider. Just grind it out and shut the hell up!

But the frame is woth it all, and upgrading is quite nice in many ways, a little unharmfull hobby, oops... 5 stars to C´dale, I would buy another one if I had the money | Overall Rating: |

It's not quite what expected. LX group rules. STX-RC brake levers sucks. I will upgrade them to XT. I usually buy new bike every spring. Not this jear. I will keep this bike. I purchased the Killer V 500 in 1995 when it was still in its own semi CAD 3 category & had a life time warranty on the frame. The frame is extremely light, very fast, a quick climber with precise tracking handling & extremely durable frame. I built up on the Forest Green color frame I purchased with Mavic 217 Rims w/White Industry Hubs, King head set, XTR Front Derailer & ESP 9.0 Rear, Scott Carbon Flat Bar, 1996 XTR 5 Arm Cranks & Rings, Kore Seat Post, Avid Arch Supreme Brakes & Real Design Brake Levers, Grafton Clipless Pedals w/ Ti Spindle, XTR 12-32 Ti Cog Set, Sachs PC 51 chain Manitou SX fork, flat black Coda Stem 90 mm, Serfas Women's Racing Saddle & WTB Velociraptor 2.1 Kevlar Tires. On the average, I leave far better riders than myself behind eating my dust regardless of gender or age. The 17 inch frame weighs in @ 21.2 lbs. I've learned a few expensive lessons such as I will stick to a Shimano XTR/ XT rear derailer next time & a thinner Shimano Chain & a Steel Cog set opposed to a Ti cog set that wears to quickly for the $. This Killer V frame has proven to be the fastest bike I have ever ridden even over the other Cannondale bikes I own. My only complaint about this frame is that Cannondale blew it when they made the SEAT TUBE (not post) on ALL of the 1995 17 Killer V frames that year with a 19.8 Seat Tube. This throws the whole bike off for an average to tall height Female riders like myself (between 5 ft 5' & 5 ft 7.5). Who, on the average have about 4 inches of standover clearance or more on that 17 size frame & a comfortable top tube length of 22.3. So the 15 inch 1995 Killer V was way too small for me @ 5ft6 tall. (Average height for many women.) Bunny hopping and unloading/ lifting the front wheel was difficult or impossible @ times. Even though this BLUNDER is in print in the 1995 Cannondale catalog specs where they specify the size 17 Killer V frame seat Tube is higher on the 17 frame than on the 19 frame (go figure). What really got me angry was the attitude of Cannodale's male dominated, cocky know nothing, do nothing technical dept. which refused to admit to this mistake or better yet..... Manufacture's Defect of that 1995 particular model & would not stand behind the manufacture's defect or lifetime warranty they boasted about. I have owned and still own a few Cannondales, but because of this experience with the company & the refusal to back their products lately I don't think I will purchase another Cannondale; & can only rate the frame @ 3.5 Chili peppers due to improper seat tube sizing.

I have a 1996 model Killer V900, and I have to say this is a wonderful bike! The polished aluminum frame looks great in the sun. C'mon, when you spend your hard-earned cash for a nice mountain bike, you want it to turn heads. The parts selection was not bad, but I've made some nice upgrades. The Deore XT polished hubs look trick, as well as my super-strong Kore lite 3-d stem. I weigh around 230 lbs., and the KV900 doesn't care, it still climbs like a mountain goat and it very comfortable and super-stiff. I haven't had any trouble with squeaks, even as heavy and tall as I am (6'3). I would highly recommend this bike to anyone. I've owned a Killer V 900 for 2 years. I go 230 lbs. and punish it. Great durable frame. Head shock's really nice. Had to change springs to the stiffest to keep from doing faceplants. It used to creak and groan from the head tube and the bottom braket. Dealer removed headset bearings, cleaned the inner surface of frame where the bearings are seated of paint with emery paper, greased outer surface of bearings and inner surface of frame, reassembled, and whalla!! - no more head tube creaks. Creaks were supposedly due to paint and alminum oxidation between headset bearings and headtube. Bottom bracket still creaks - getting ready to disassemble and do the same. Overall - great, tough bike. Climbs like a mountain goat. Stiff and fast. | Overall Rating: |

Ditched the bogus Force 40 brakes for a set of V's too, I can actually stop now, which makes rides so much more enjoyable! The polished finish is cool too, after a little work with chrome polish it looks like a new bike. Friends who borrow the bike are amazed at how light and responsive it is (24 lbs even after the fork was added), the whole thing just kicks ass. Quality ride. I own a 700. I merely bought the bike for the frame and the thinwall aluminum's rigidity under stressful situations. And the outcome from that? Total rigidity! Spank me rigidity. The component package was less than desirable, supposedly you are paying for the Cannondale frame (or is it name? you decide) and not the groupo. But the bike itself was an overall success on my research for a durable frame without a TON of money to spend. I am considering staying with the C'Dale for my next ride.... | Overall Rating: |

Almost bought a Stumpjumper M2, boy am I glad I did'nt. My killer V 900 is the stiffest bike I have ever ridden. For a rider over 200lbs. I highly recomend the Killer V over a standard C'DALE due to the extra aluninium bar. The Headshock is also very stiff and won't waffle under in comparison to Rock Shocks etc, etc. My hat off to CANNONDALE. | Overall Rating: |

My late-94 Killer V500 is not just good-looking but good performance bike. I was amazed by the precision in its handling which was apparent on the trails. It saved me from quite a few nasty falls on the trails, where I know I would have fallen if I were on my previous bike. The stiffness of the frame is incredible, I can feel so much of my pedalling energy go into powering the bike, something chromolloy frames just can't do. Of course the price of this is the lack of shock absorption. I have since added a Q21R fork to dampen the front end (front suspension is a must if you ride offroad). The original LX deraillers and STX-SE components work well. I have Shimano STX-SE cranks, which seem to be better than CODA cranks you'll find in later models. I'll probably keep this bike even if I purchase another bike in future. Price wise, the components in this bike are typically one grade below similar bikes in its range, so if you're lookng for better componentry, you might wanna try the Killer V900, or you can get this bike now and upgrade parts later. | Overall Rating: |

I have owned my Killer V500 for aboout a year and I hardly ever have time to ride it. But none-the-less, my bike creaks and groans like it's a hundred years old. I think all this creaking and groaning crap comes from the crank cause the only time I hear these gutterall sounds is when I stand up on the pedals, etc. My local dealer gave me some line of crap about the aluminum frame making the sounds sound worse than they really are, but hey! I've owned my Schwinn voyager since 1984 and it has never made any complaints about me standing up on the pedals to ride hard. This noisiness is simply unexcusable on a bike that cost $800.00. I wouldn't buy another cannondale again no matter how cool it looks because of this noise problem. You might should think twice too! | Overall Rating: |

Is the Killer V500 the same as the F500 but with a different shaped frame? | Overall Rating: |

I recently bought this bike with great skepticism, as I have always been faithful to cro-mo hardtails. After about 20 miles on this thing, , I am convinced, Cannondale aluminum frames kick ass! This thing is stiff as a board, yet extremely nimble and capable through the tight stuff, and it turns likes a freakin' banshee! Hooked up on everything, from mud, to hardpack, even with the factory IRC Piranhapros. I had no trouble climbing the steepest hill, I think I could climb my house on this bike! Besides the ride quality, this bike looks sweet, heads are always turning when I ride. I am a bit disappointed with the stock Acera hubs, this is a great bike, and I'm looking forward to many miles of quality ridings(with a few upgrades of course). | Overall Rating: |
