Favorite Trail:Mt Ste-Anne QC
Duration Product Used:More than 3 years
Price Paid: $800.00
Strengths:Components ( Gear system, brakes, rims ) are high quality considering the overall price for the bike. Plenty of space to choose and install any suspension
Weaknesses:The saddle tends to wear off very fast
Bottom Line:The best MTB I bought so far, rides smoothly, handles sharply, Great for DH and cross countrying...
Having the chance to choose any suspension is a great PLUS. One of the hardest frame I've for that price... And talk about the colour... Mine is Midnight Black...with Marzocchi ( Monster ) suspension...It's one under rated and under estimated bike on the market... I had a great chance to find a dealer in Quebec City that sold it to me... My best purchase ever... Tops my old Rocky Mountain and Specialized MTB that I previously owned...

Bottom Line:
I've had my Brodie Torque for 4 years. It has been fantastic since day 1. Almost all the parts have been replaced (upgraded) at least once. I just don't have the heart to let this great frame go. A fantastic bike in the tight singletrack. Very light and very strong. Not sure I can put into words how well this bike has treated me... even after all the shit and abuse I have put it through!

Bottom Line:

Very nice bike. Handles like a dream, climbs like ... something very good at
climbing. Feels pretty light, but I haven't weighed it yet. I like the
components, EXCEPT the saddle. It's the perfect shape for me, and it's damn
comfy, but it's nylon and gets torn way too easily. Hmm, what else ... I too
like the fact that I'll get to pick the suspension fork that I want, when I can afford it.

Bottom Line:

I am 6'5 and weigh 220lbs. The bike I ride is a Brodie Energy. However, when I purchased my bike I upgraded a few things. Most noticeably, instead of Ritchey rims and tires, my bike now sports Shimano LX hubs laced to Mavic rims and WTB's Velociraptors. I also upgraded to full Shimano LX V-brakes and changed from a 7 speed cassette to a 8 speed cassette. These upgrades surpasses the Torque's specifications except the front derailler is still Shimano STX, not Shimano LX as on the Torque.
My bike cost me $950.00 Canadian, a full $25.00 less than the Torque. The wheel set on this bike alone is worth $350.00 so you can see that my dealer gave me a fabulous deal on this former Energy. The bike is a 1998 model and weighs in at 26.3lbs (on a 20.5 frame).
Obviously, I am very impressed with my bike's current specs and only plan on upgrading to a 400mm seatpost and Shimano LX front derailler in the near future. To keep the bike's price down, I left on a rigid fork and will purchase either a Rock Shox Judy XC or Answer fork next year.
The bike is superb on tight single track. The long top tube combined with the steep head and seat angles gives the bike great quickness in the turns and sure tracking in the loose stuff. The bike is bit skittish at high speeds but this does not bother me since I am never in that great of a hurry that I need to attack trails at 40km.
This bike is excellent and I highly recomend it to anyone. The light weight and the great upgrades I received on this bike should easily last me for quite a while.
Don't go Rocky Mountain. A Brodie is the same thing and costs less!!

Bottom Line:

This is definitely an excellent bike to consider for second time buyers. The
level of componentry is quite high (LX front, XT rear, LX V's, RapidFire+, Ritchey tires and rims, in addition to the well known Brodie frame...), but there is lots of room to upgrade as a intermediate rider would want. It comes rigid w/o clipless pedals but in buying a bike at this level this is probably a good thing as a buyer would already have preferences in mind. This bike offers very smooth operation and quick response along with lots of room for upgrading. It is a very high quality bike. If you're shopping around take a look at this one. Oh, and did I mention the colour...?
