Bottom Line:This is an update to my earlier review from Aug 06.

I brought the fork to the Marz tent at the sea otter in 07 and they did a rebuild of the fork and had me swap out one of the stock springs for a heavy spring. This changed the sag of the fork and the spring rate and allowed me to run less compression damping and still not bottom the fork too easy. It now rides much plusher and takes small bumps way better than before. I can now ride high speed trails and the fork tracks better and I can still do big drops and the landings are like butter.

So now I am happy with my fork finally but it's really a shame that it took so long to get it right. Marz is seriously lacking in the setup guide/ manual department. It should not be so hard to get a fork setup right. And to top it all off they do not sell single springs so I had to buy 2 heavy springs and have one just laying around.

Thanks to Ronnie at the Sea otter for helping me get my fork right.

Favorite Trail:A-line
Duration Product Used:More than 3 years
Price Paid: $800.00
Purchased At:Price point
Strengths:appearance, 35mm stanchions, practically indestructible when used properly, many adjustments and just an overall terrfic fork
Weaknesses:none
Similar Products Used:manitou travis triples, 05 888vf's, boxxers, fox 40's
Bike Setup:2005 shore, ck hubs, 888rc2x, mag 30's, codes
Bottom Line:This fork is terrific i've used it for over several years and it rarely requires a service. It has taken numerous drops to flat as well as gaps in excess of 35ft and still it craves more. The only real downside I could forsee is the adjustments are fairly intimidating at first as there are so many, but as soon as you find the right setting their golden. I really don't know what this "simon huckster" person is talking about. If he really knew what he was talking about he would realize that the 888 is a STRONGER fork than a boxxer. Boxxers are intended for racing (DH) hence their lighter weight and realtively slimer build (32mm stanchions, slim crowns, thinner lowers, and use air in some models) By the way there have been many reported cases of boxxers snapping as their lowers are realitively thin as they are not intended for purely freeride. 888's however are built for freeride which is why they are realitively heavy when compared to the boxxers (35mm stanchions, beefy crowns, coil sprung etc..) This fork has been designed and made for hucking. If you want a fork that will take a beating and then some while staying in one piece this is the fork for you. If you want to have confidence while hitting that huge gap BUY THIS FORK.

Strengths:looks great...
Weaknesses:this should be a great fork but is getting a rep for snapping, zocchi forks have a rep for doing that. this fork is noisy and clicky. BUT, if you get this fork rebiult by a pro then it should improve greatly. do not drop in more than 10 feet on this fork unless you are padded like a knight.. you can spend the same amount of money on boxxers and get a much stronger reliable fork..
Similar Products Used:i cant think of one i havnt tried
Bike Setup:saints, DHX-5, fox 40 (awsom replacment for those zocchi's but over priced) on an yeti asx with sexy diety bars ad stem
Bottom Line:i cant think of any reason why you would get these when you can spend the money on boxxers, my belief is that rock shox is the best in the game and has an amazing rep, cant go rong with them. if you own them get them rebuilt and they'l be great, if you dont then leave them alone, im an experienced (semi) PRO rider so i know my sh*ite... only buy this fork for easy downhilling not for huckers.

Favorite Trail:Winterberg / Germany
Duration Product Used:6 months
Price Paid: $600.00
Purchased At:Marzocchi
Strengths:This is by far the best fork I've ridden and owned. It's adjustability and feel is just super. It is just so much better than all other/older 888 forks!!
Weaknesses:None what so ever!
Similar Products Used:888R, 888VF2, Rockshox Boxxer
Bike Setup:Specialized Demo9, Hope Mono6/4, Fox DHX5
Bottom Line:This decently priced fork gives you the best ride you want. A Fox40 is very good as well but it isn't worth the double price of the 888Rc2x.

This fork you can also service yourself, for some that can be a big plus +.

Duration Product Used:3 months
Price Paid: $650.00
Purchased At:fullcycles.com
Strengths:Looks sexy, works flawless and feels alot lighter than 7+ lbs. Easy to use and the adjusters work.
GREAT SMALL BUMP SENSATIVITY!
Weaknesses:None.
Similar Products Used:Stratos S8, boxxer team, boxxer WC, nixon, S7 stratos.
Bottom Line:I was crossed between this fork, a new WC and a fox 40rc2. After riding this thing and being a hucker as well, I MADE THE RIGHT CHOICE.
I rode Tamarack again this weekend and adjusted the fork to the terrain, no problem. I weigh 210 lbs and have the stock springs in it, still perfect.
If you are leaning on the fence and trying to decide which fork to buy this is the 1 without a question.
I was a marzocchi hater till I decided to ride it and give it a shot, figured at what I payed i could sell it and not lose a dime.
I AM NOT GETTING RID OF IT! I am actually considering getting the 888 world cup for racing and keeping this for a all around fork. I cannot see the worl cup 888 being any better, just lighter. But I will get it for the bling factor alone.

Duration Product Used:3 months
Price Paid: $1000.00
Purchased At:LBS
Strengths:Highly tuneable. nice knobs, adjustments make noticable differences, good looking. good quality metal parts everywhere.
Weaknesses:Hard to tune since the manual is a bit confusing about which knob does what.
Similar Products Used:This is my first double crown fork. Otherwise I have spent a lot of time on the Z150FR and a lot of time on some fox forks like the 36talas.
Bike Setup:Turner Highline. mavic 729 rims, hadley hubs, kenda blue groove dh tires. thomson, avid, sram, etc.
Bottom Line:I am having a hard time getting this fork to ride well in all of the riding situations I put it in. Right now it works great when I take it jumping, but then when I hit high speed trails with rocks the front wheel deflects off of stuff and bounces around. I have been making small tweaks to the compression settings to try and fix this but now I am bottoming the fork on big drops. It goes on and on. I really wish marz would give you more setup info in the manual. Something like "if you're 200lbs and do big drops, then set the oil level to this and turn the rebound three clicks from full out, etc" For as much money as we pay for these things it seems a small favor to ask. I am still not happy with this fork but I am pretty sure if I stick with it I can get it to behave right. At least they got rid of the goofy air preload that my Z150 had. I really didn't like using air pressure to change the preload. It messes with the way the shock feel.

Strengths:Fork is super stiff, feels ridiculously smooth and light. Bottomless travel, super sensitive on the small bumps, but yet stiffens ridiculously quickly when you hit somthing large.
Weaknesses:Compression knob on the bottom falls off. Marzocchi will replace, great customer service

Bottom Line:This fork is absolutely phenominal. Nose dive a 5 foot drop and you wont even feel scared. Small bumps dissapear, big hits feel like a pebble hitting a fox 40. haha. I am roccing a set of prototype pink lowers on the fork and they look sick! I had the fork works program done, and needless to say, wow, use your pinky fingers to push down the front end. The fork has absolutely NO stiction.

Strengths:Tuneable, stiff, looks beefy.

Bike Setup:2006 Demo8 Pro
Bottom Line:The boys at Marzocchi did their homework this year.

The RX2x system is awesome. So good that for heavier riders, you dont have to put new spring in it. You just lean over and turn the adjuster on the bottom of the right leg, a few clicks, and bingo...you just made the fork feel like you put heavier springs in it.

This fork is highly adjustable. You can make it feel EXACTLY how you want, in a matter of seconds. No more bombing through the first 4 inches of travel if you dont want to. No more opening the fork up and adjusting the C clip for preload. You can do that externally now.

The rebound probably works better than last years...its more sensitive. It seemed on last years model, there were really only 7 or 8 clicks of adjustment (even though there was 22 clicks). It seems on this years you can really get a good 15 clicks of adjustment. More refined!

The 04/05 888 was an awesome fork, however this year, they have rasied the bar, a couple of notches. It really is the perfect fork. I highly recommend it. Dont spend an additional $400 and get the Fox. This does everything the fox does, and has the great zoke feel.

Well done Marzocchi!

Bottom Line:Well, if your looking into this fork, you know what you are getting in too. Lots of adjustment and travel. Very smooth. This may be the fork that takes out the FOX 40rc2. Lower ride height is a plus. Didnt get to ride much because my chain broke so I am going to have to do a follow up after a couple of DH runs. I believe it weights a tad lass than the older 888's. For now, im going to give it 5 hot peppers for the fine adjustments, lower height, smooth operation, and weight.
