Strengths:    Lockout, Preload, Looks

Weaknesses:    You will not get the travel that it advertises. It doesnt soak up much at speed. When i got my bike it froze up completely and will not work. Luckily my LBS and Manitou give me a warranty.

Bottom Line:
This is a good entry level fork mostly made for looks. The lockout is nice but there seems to be only two settings, locked out and not. There is no in between with this fork. The preload adjust does not seem to do much except make the fork make a different sound when compressed. The fork looks great and is ok for riding around town but if you are going to actually ride some trails, YOU NEED A BETTER ONE.

Strengths:    lockout....that's IT!

Weaknesses:    hmm... let me think, it doesn't suck up anything at speed, then when it does pick up a bump it blows right through the travels and bottoms out!

Bottom Line:
this fork is horrible don't buy it! if you're looking at a bike that comes with this fork budget for a fork upgrade quick-time.

Bike Setup:   trek 6500 with selle italia XO (horrible), Hayes HFX 9 discs (good!), and knock off ODI lock on grips that saved me 20 bucks and work better!

My 03's - Answer Manitou Axel Super Front shock is jacked up - worth fixing?

I have a 2003 Rockhopper FSR Comp that I just picked up, and sent it off to my LBS for an overhaul. I got a call today and they told me they can't get the front shock to adjust correctly, it "pops" when they try to turn the adjustor knob to set preload. It also looks like the lockout damper isn't ... Read More »

My 2003 Manitou Axel Super is clanking.

Well to make a long story short-both my Fox Triad and Float RL from my 07 Stumpjumper are being serviced, which forces me to ride my old SJ FSR until the suspension parts are returned. The old SJ has a 03Manitou Axel Super, which is an inexpensive fork that I was planning on selling the bike with un ... Read More »

Manitou Axel super lockout notchy

I have a set of Manitou Axels that are only 500km old and feel very notchy whilst riding and seem to be getting worse. The manual is pretty much useless and the web site is down probably forever by the look of it. Is there any thing that can be done to this fork to make it smoother? BazRead More »
