Date Reviewed: April 24, 2005
Duration Product Used:Less than 1 month
Price Paid: $800.00
Strengths:The fork has good lateral stiffness and feels very solid. I have the 20mm through-axle version. You can easilty adjust the dampening on the fly and you can totally lock it out if you want. It feels smooth, soaks up the bumps niclely and it also looks good.
Weaknesses:When I was installing the fork, I found the manual lacking some necessary info. like the recommended air pressure to run based the weight of the riders. The fork didn't come with any bumpers to put on the upper tubes to protect the bike frame from damage. The bumpers are a very small cost and something I would expect with an expensive fork like this.
Similar Products Used:I originally had an old Manitou fork on this tandem that wasn't even remotely capable of handling the load of a tandem.
Bike Setup:Ibis Cousin It Tandem. Hope Monoti6 disk brakes. Phil Wood tandem hubs. Shimano 9-speed drivetrain. Cane Creek Thudbuster seat post for the stoker. Mavic rims.
Bottom Line:The fork works great. I raced the tandem at the Sea Otter Classic and it performed very well. I had a problem with the disk brake set-up and I don't know if had anything to do with the fork specs or not. When I set up the brakes, the front disk rubbed on the fork leg. I ended up using a thinner profile Hayes rotor instead of the Hope one and that fixed the problem. I could have had Phil Wood make some custom spacers and then redished the wheel to fix the problem but that would have been way more effort then simply changing the rotor.

I would definitely reccommend this fork to tandem riders who plan on riding aggressively off-road.
