They are excellent for XC riding and the coils soak up anything I can give 'em. They are very well constructed as compared to other brands dust seals and materials and these are not made in Tawain....These forks even ate some Alpine downhill singletrack in Colorado (Dyke Trail!) and 12 miles of HEll in Oklahoma with no problems at all....no bottoming out or excessive bounce | | Weaknesses: | none that I know about....had 'em approx 1 yr and still doing some fine tuneing...like 'em better and better as I ride.... | | Similar Products Used: | my bike cam OE with ROCKSHOX Mag 21 45mm travel (remember those ?) then I installed some Manitou SX Ti cartridge later down the road....I will never buy Manitou again!! DNM coil over rear shock with piggy-back air adjust preload w/lockout. | | Bottom Line: | Still dialing the fork in. Just want to add this blurb on the weight, it's light for this price break. It was advertised with a steel steerer but after checking it with a magnet when it arrived I found it to be aluminum. If you want a good, cheap XC fork I'd highly recomend it.
I gave it 4 for an overall because of the internal rebound adjustment. For the number of years this type of fork has been built there should be no reason for not having an external knob.

At first I regretted going with this rather than a rebuild of my old one, but it's growing on me. I like it a lot more now that I took out one of the coils and run 20 psi in that leg. With both coils in and zero preload the thing was bouncing off almost every root and rock, but now it's plush and smooth. I really don't like the lack of external rebound damping adjustment, but once I figured out which leg the rebound cartridge is in (not the one it's supposed to be, BTW) I guess I can live with it. | | Value Rating:Overall Rating: |

That's when the springs fell out!!! At first I was pissed, but after I set the fork up like a coil/ oil fork, I was amazed at the plushness. I will never go back to all air. This fork is smooth as butter in all applications. The big hits are taken easily, but it's the small stutter bumps that are totally erased that impresses me the most.
