Weaknesses:comes with pretty plush springs. i weigh 220 and id bottom it out hela easy. i just bought firm springs for it though and those work great. if you're like me, you just need to search around for springs thatl work for you. Also, there are no adjustments so its pretty much springs all the way

Strengths:Quality build, Marzocchi. Stiff.
Weaknesses:Stock springs are too soft for most riders.
Bike Setup:05 Stinky Dee-Lux
Bottom Line:Came on the bike. I am a set it and forget rider it so I dont need tonns of adjustments on my fork. I swapped out the stock springs for the green/"Heavy" ones and the fork is perfect. Maint with this fork is a snap, a yearly oil change and it will last a good while. If I do need to replace them they are not going to break my bank if I can find another set. The newer VF2 have some minor adjustments. All in all Marz 888 quality with a decent price. Just understand that the springs are real soft.

Bike Setup:Demo 9. Boxxer Team (after I got rid of crappy 888vf) Dee-Max Saint Diablous
Bottom Line:Sucks. Peice of crap. I noticed while riding on the shore it packed up, but I just thought I didn't have right weight oil for my weight. Rebuilt it with heavier oil and then headed to Whistler. I was stocked to be at Whistler, but on my first run things went wrong. I hit the Dirt-Merchant rock drop, perhaps a little to fast but the landing was alright. Anyways, when I landed I heard a hude crack, like I had bottomed out hardcore. I checked the fork and nothing was wrong. I continued down rest of the trail and everytime I landed a jump it cluncked. I took it easy and got to the bottom. When I got to the bottom I realized that my arch had broken. So now I have a $600 wall ornament because Zocchi wont warantee it or give me new lowers. Im going to stick with a Boxxer from now on. They are lighter and stronger.

Favorite Trail:Blandford freeride park

Purchased At:came with bike
Strengths:It has been a good reliable maint free set of forks.
Weaknesses:No adjustment, dives when braking, bottoms out easily on flat landings.
Similar Products Used:None
Bike Setup:Devinci.
Bottom Line:It's a good DH/Freeride fork if your on a shoestring budget or just setting out. Get a bigger spring fitted & it doesn't "dive" or give you a sort of "pogo stick" effect so much when you brake. It can take a good beating with very little to no maintenance. Once you start to get the hang of being in the air & landing on your wheels, i'd say it was time to sell 'em & move on to something with a bit more control of the forks compression & damping.

Good forks for basic needs.

Strengths:Stiff, light enough, looks good
Weaknesses:dampening, adjustability, customer service
Similar Products Used:Shiver, Jr T., Super T., Shermans
Bike Setup:Devinci 8flat8 all aftermarket.
Bottom Line:Fork came with the bike and its good for most riding I do. The ssvf cartridges stack up with multiple hits. You get less and less travel after each hit until you have a bike with 2 inches of travel up front and bad geometry. Especially if going down steeps. I ended up scratching stanchions pretty good and called up Marzocchi to buy the upgraded cartridges and stanchions to make my fork a 888rc. I'd leave messages and never once got a return call. Had one shop try for me and they ran into same problem. After 2 weeks they finally talked to somebody from Marzocchi and was told they would not sell the parts. Marzocchi said I need to sell the fork and buy a new one. I was blown away, not like I wanted to warranty this, I wanted to PURCHASE the part, not warranty it. I tried through another shop who has a relationship with the rep and they told him the same thing. Its a big job and they said to sell the fork and buy a new one. The fork is near worthless with a scratched stanchion. It is well worth it to me to spend a couple hundred dollars to get a fork that works great than to sell the one I have for nothing and spend at least 800 for what I want. I think it is crap that Marzocchi will not support a fork that is a year old. Buying a new is not the answer and no matter how much I like their product, the support is everything to me and I will not buy, nor recommend another Marzocchi. Rock Shox and Fox are more than stepping up to the plate.

Purchased At:cycle solutions
Strengths:35mm stanchions, intergrated stem, 20mm axel, the fact that there's no adjustments so there is nothing really that could fail, one of the best looking forks out there
Weaknesses:the factory springs are pretty soft. If you put some harder spings in you've got your self an 888Rc without paying the extra cash.
Similar Products Used:2005 manitou stance kingpin, 2004 sherman firefly (great fork)
Bike Setup:2005 Norco VPS Savage, Mag DH 30 rims, woodman hubs , Marzocchi 888 vf
Bottom Line:buy this fork if you want a reliable, solid, beefy fork. It's pretty cheap when compared to the manitou's and boxxer's depending on where you buy it. Now if you want a completely bomb proof fork and you have enough cash buy the huge FOX 40 which is the toughest fork out there with it's massive 40mm nitride stanchions.

Bottom Line:I do a lot of DH, drops and even some dirt jump with this bike but I haven't been able to bottom out the fork so far. It's the 200mm version and I hardly reach 180, sag is also ridiculous -just 32. I have to open it in order to identify the type of springs and change them for softer ones asap. Will change the oil for a 10W or a mix with the standard 7.5W, I like it a little bit slower. Would be easier to just turn a knob, isn't it? I mean, for the price... Anyway, I am REALLY happy with its stiffness, it's -as usual in 'zocchis- amazingly plush and all the things I don't like are more or less easy to solve. Oh, Marzocchi's customer service s*cks!!! they're not even able to tell if there are spring / upgrade kits available and where. And that I cannot solve.

Bottom Line:this is my first expierence wif a dual crown fork. i got the 170mm travel version and i feel that the fork really works really really well. eats up all of the bumps in the trail, drops and lands very well. this fork has got all the needs of a dh fork. except lack of adjustments.
i gave 1 chilli less for value ratings becoz i paid at such a price and i didnt get anything to adjust. i can pay almost the same price and get a sherman slider plus, i get lotsa thingy to adjust and SPV too!
