Favorite Trail:any and all that don't kill me
Duration Product Used:More than 3 years
Price Paid: $500.00
Purchased At:Soul Cycles of Arizo
Strengths:The best damn fork available in 2005, period. This is clearly a winner in the DH/FR category. Dedicated 20mm thru-axle with two clamp down bolts per leg drop-out, think about it.....
Weaknesses:Describe for me what weakness is defined as please, because this fork represents nothing of the such, near as I can tell for the last 4 years. If cost is a weakness of said product, then weak forks structurally should be cheap.
Similar Products Used:1996 Answer Manitou 4, 2000 Marzocchi Z1 CR, 2003 Rock Shox Psylo 20mm, etc.
Bike Setup:2005 Marzocchi 66RC 150mm fork and don't even get me started on all the rest of my equipment....bling, bling, bling.
Bottom Line:If you bought this fork, you were smart. If you want this fork, too bad. 2005 was a good year.

Strengths:Super strong, plush, all black, super rigid brake mount. The stock springs were firm enough for me and I weigh 275Lbs. That is super rare! Big thumbs-up for the big M!!!
Weaknesses:paint,air-preload covers get lost easilly...
Similar Products Used:'03 DJ1, '99 Z1-CR, '99 Monster-T

Bottom Line:This fork is the best dang fork I have ever ridden! People ask me with the Morphine, why not a dual-crown, and I tell them this fork is plenty for me, and espescially after it proved it self by ovalizing the head-tube of my ClifCat TANKA$$, after the TANKA$$ handled the MONSTER-T for two summers!!!

If you're a heavy rider or very rough rider afraid of breaking parts, then this is for you. If you're a light rider who counts ounces on his bike, then this fork would be your worst nightmare!

Duration Product Used:6 months
Price Paid: $700.00
Purchased At:Rocky Cycle
Strengths:Very plush on the high speed chatter bumps. Feels like butter on gaps, drops, step downs, etc. Great adjustability with the compression and rebound - easy to dial in the suspension. Easy to maintain. Adjustable from 6 - 7 inches. Low maintenance fork - have not had any problems with the internals. Very reliable fork.
Weaknesses:None.
Similar Products Used:2003 Boxxer Race, 2005 Sherman Slider +
Bike Setup:2005 Bullit, Fox DHX 5.0, 26" minions, 24" high rollers
Bottom Line:After riding the Boxxer Race and Slider +, the 66RC was infintely better than these two forks. I had more confidence in cornering, rolls, drops, gaps, step-downs, etc. with these forks. With the two previous forks I had major problems with malfunctioning internals (twice for both forks) yet I have not had any problems with this reliable fork. Great fork.

Duration Product Used:Less than 1 month
Price Paid: $325.00

Strengths:Looks! Single-Crown - can do anything a 7" monster t can only better and with more adjustability. Progressive travel - first couple of inches are easy and smooth and as you progressively use more travel it gets much stiffer. Adjustments - you can tune 100% of the travel of this fork to your liking. Axle to Crown height - some complain about this but I bought this instead of an 06 because I really like the way it slackens the geometry of my frame. Steering radius - no double crown = better steering. Did I mention single crown? - makes your double crown friends look like p*ssy's!
Weaknesses:None that I have discovered.
Similar Products Used:2003 Marzocchi Jr. T, 2002 RockShox Psylo Race, Manitou Sherman, Manitou Nixon
Bike Setup:05' Kona Stinky, 66RC, Holzfeller, XT, D321/Mammoth rims, Marzocchi/Rolf hubs, Hayes
Bottom Line:The first time I used it I took it on a very technical downhill ride with lots of rock gardens, steep rock faces, creek gaps and jumps. The first ride down intimidated me some because I was used to seeing a double crown under me. However, this thing is 1.5 inches taller and wider than my buddies Jr T. Its a beast over rocks and the suspension is awesome. When I used to have my Jr T I constantly felt like I was bottoming it out. I'm 215 lbs and the progressive travel on this thing is amazing. Overall, awesome fork, if you can find one cheap and used I highly recommend it. Its awesome when you can go faster and bigger than your friends who are riding double crown Jr T's, Monsters, Super T's. Best upgrade I have made and I know I won't go back to double crown. I really like the axle to crown height @ 595 mm, only 10 mm less than an 8" travel 888!

Strengths:amazingly strong, supple and stiff. easy to modify and usual marzocchi reliability. it just works

Bottom Line:basically, i messed around with the internals, sawing springs in half, putting bits of household plumbing here and there, drilling holes and practicing witchcraft in moderation...... in the end, i ended up with a 80mm travel version of the 66 which has a greater internal overlap than the travel it now has making it the stiffest fork on the planet, literally.
it makes a great street fork for caining around in london with and jumping off stuff knowing it will out-live mankind.

amazing fork with unpresidented potential...... underneath all that matcho extreme free-ride marketing layes a fork which outdoes ANY dirtjump/street fork ever conceived. you aint ready.

Bottom Line:these are realy nice forks, they give you alot more fun than DC's simply as you can X-up and barspin them, they feel pretty stiff. although not as stiff as DC's but they'll do, the ajust ment amounts on them are great, i run mine at about 7psi per leg normaly for FR and then about 2 psi for DH. im about 180 Lbs. so not too big. the fork oil needed to be topped up when i for them but all marzocchis need that as some is removed for the transit of them. the rebound is very good, and the compression is equally as good, i would buy them again if they snap, only quibble is that they use IS not post mount. i have snapped IS mounts before in crashes where the caliper has been hit where as on PM it is a stronger hold between for and caliper and the caliper is more likley to snap which is a darn lot cheaper than a new set of forks.

Bottom Line:This is an amazing fork. Most people should get one no matter how you ride. They feel low to the ground (compared to junior ts) and ride well for drops, dirt jumps, and trail riding. If you get it remember to take excess air out of your fork by pushing on the air valve because I didn't do that and my fork felt a little stiff on the trails, but not too bad. With this fork you can turn better as well. Once you go to single crown, you won't want to go back (I know I won't)!

Bottom Line:This is the absolute best fork SC or DC i ever have rode & owned.Felt like riding on the smooth street on rough narly sections. It was better than the Monster-T by far & of course lighter. Was better than a 7" Boxxer because it felt plusher than the Boxxer & the seals are much better on Marzocchi forks any day.The rebound especially was better on the 66RC vs. the Boxxer. The Boxxer is a good popular fork & i like them, but like Marzocchi better because of reliability with the seals & i know how to work on Marzocchi easily. It was also quicker feeling than the SHIVER & didn't have to bleed those stupid screws on the SHIVER.
Single crown is good for tricks & less weight & also to work on the bike.
Single crowns are bad for if you crash the brake lines could pull out of the levers !Also a DC is safer somewhat because of the dual crowns in case the steerer snaps from a freak thing? All n all the 66RC is an excellent buy & the 05's are nice and TALL compared to the lower axle to crown height of 06 models.Steep Head angles suck IMO.

Bottom Line:This fork is awsome. I'v done 7-9 Foot drops and it has yet to bottom out. The travel feels endless and is so progressive. The hscv damping does loads of difference compared to the cheaper ssvf damping and for the price difference it's worth it. It's an all around sick fork that is light enough to go up and burley enough to go down and hit huge drops and jumps along with rock gardens and the most technical of terrain. The air preload works great because if it's too plush for bigger stuff, then pump some air into it and off you go. I have nothing but good things to say about this fork and if you have the money , then get it and you wont be dissapointed. I'v even heard that it is better than the Fox 36 so don't go and spend more money on the 36... GET THE 66. YOU WONT REGRET IT.

Bottom Line:This is the plushest, stiffest, burliest fork i've seen or ridden! This will make your buddy's boxxer look like like an xc fork. Rides just like a 888 with out the extra wieght and travel, but with more steering radius (x-ups, tailwhips etc.) this fork is basicaly a single crown 888! Ride right over anythig, can take the big hits and drops and still suck up the little stuff all without bottoming! This fork eats up stuff that would have my Z1 bottoming!('03 Z1 with hscv, eta 130mm)I thik the only thig that could make this fork better would maybe be a lighter steerer tube, and maybe a preload like the 888.

Strengths:This fork can handle the high speed downhill bumps that have been making my other bike leave the ground. Don't think I'll ever bottom this out, but the first 2 and 1/2 inches compress relatively easily and then it gets stiffer and stiffer. Helps me take bigger jumps with more take-off compression and nice control on the landing. Extreemly adjustable, but I find I like the way it was set righ from the factory, and I add *no* air. (I weigh about 170 lbs.) This is my dream downhill/freeride bike's front fork and it has lived up to all of my expectations. Looks cool, too.
Weaknesses:Well, it's a bit heavy and you have to get used to the 170mm fork. I imagine if you went from a bike with an 80mm fork to this thing you would have problems cornering until you get used to the 'chopper effect.' I went from a 135mm fork and it took a little getting used to. Adding air does stiffen the fork out, but then at high speeds the front tire leaves the ground (which it doesn't do with no air).
Similar Products Used:2004 Marzocchi Z1 Drop Off II, 1999 Rock Shox Judy 100, Manitou Six.
Bike Setup:Weyless 67 (in 7" travel mode) w/ Manitou 6-way swinger, 8" Shimano m755 hydrolic discs...
Bottom Line:This fork delivers the big-hit goods you'd expect from a double-cown fork. It is really smooth on washboards, etc, if *there is no air* in the air chambers. Adding air stiffens the fork out, but the front tire loses contact with the washboard at high speeds with about 5 p.s.i. air in each leg, but the air is good to reduce bob on longer rides. Not a fork for long XC rides, but it can handle long XC rides. Great fork. Never bottomed out, but used a substantial part of its travel. Did I say it is great for downhill? It's great for downhill over large rocks, roots, you know--stuff you wouldn't dream of riding over with your 100mm travel fork at high speeds.

Strengths:Where to begin, hmmm, let me put it this way; There are no weaknesses. A particular strength for my riding style is the double bolt 20mm axle clamp system. I've had some trouble with other types of systems, and this is by far the strongest and most durable system out there.
Similar Products Used:RS Pike '05, Marzocchi Drop-Off '04, and a couple others.
Bike Setup:'04 Banshee Morphine Badass Machine
Bottom Line:This fork has the best performance of all the models I've owned. I ride a 16" Morphine frame and the geometry suites this fork perfectly at 150mmm.

I like to do jumps, drops, extreme almost vertical downhill sections, rocky downhill, single track, and some urban riding. This fork is a serious piece of equipment for anything I can dish out. It rides smooth. I can hit obstacles a foot high almost without even felling it. It reacts well to dirt ramps even though it has 6" of travel. Urban terrain of hard concrete and stairs hardly cause any feeling of impact at all. In short I'm very pleased

I also like to hit the trails near my apt. which involves a lot of climbing. I run a MRP System 2 with a 36 tooth sprocket which makes climbing a bit difficult to begin with, but I've had this system with a couple of fork models this year. This may specific to the Morphine geometry, at the increased height of this fork compared to my last one shifts a lot of my weight to the back of the bike. This allows me to climb steep slopes without losing traction every time the fork compresses.

Bottom Line:WOW...these forks are so sweet... I hit everything with these with full confidence. I have to look down to make sure I am still riding a single crown fork! As long as you aren't racing these are the best freeride fork on the market. I give it a poor value rating just because I don't think we should have to spend so much on bike parts in general.

Weaknesses:a lil' bit too high for my taste, although the '06 ones have been lowered by about 40mm and still have the 7" travel.....grrrrr
its also a proper mission to get the oil height crispy, which is a right pain in the arse. its not a fox.

Strengths:Well....hmm....it's a Marzocchi! Endless amounts of adjustment (30 Clicker), plushness, awesome bottom-out resistance, dead accurate steering precision, and it's Black!
Weaknesses:Very tall. Taller than a Manitou Slider, Jr.T, Super T, 888 170 mm, Breakout Plus, the list goes on... Finally, (I am being picky about this but whatever...) it is quite heavy. It's a half pound (or around there) heavier than the Breakout Plus from Manitou which also has 40 mm travel adjust! I think Marzocchi fell flat on their faces when they saw the difference of adjstments between the 66 and Breakout since the 66 has no travel adjustments! The 66 should have ETA. Serioulsly. Not all of us get shuttle lifts 300 ft up. I think they will have ETA for 2006. Quite the bank breaker but what do you expect?!
Similar Products Used:Honeslty I haven't rode any other brand of fork and nothing in Marzocchi but MAYBE the Z150 and Z1FR1ETA
Bike Setup:Sasquatch w/ single track and 66 rest all stock. (We dont all have or need fullies!)
Bottom Line:Buy it if ur not concerned about weight, height, or travel adjustments. If you want all or some of that, get a 888, Manitou Breakout/Slider or wait for the 2006 Travis series from Manitou! Don't know what Marz is planning though! It'll be fun to see. Happy Trails. :o)

Strengths:Plush, controlled, stiff, strong, black. What more could you want in a fork?
Weaknesses:If it wasn't as tall I could run the 170mm but it is so I only have it at 150mm
Similar Products Used:Only the Z1 FR1 is "similar", otherwise I've owned Fox Talas, Marz Marathons, older Pace forks and even Sids!
Bike Setup:Cove G Spot FR with TF Tuned 5th Element, mix of Saint and XT, Hope M4's, Easton cockpit, Mavic rims on Hope hubs and Conti Diesel tyres. SDG bel air to perch on.
Bottom Line:I have one bike for everything - muck about FR/DH (jumping off stuff, hooning down things, but not racing), singletrack/XC and some very modest jumping. I ride this stuff every day to and from work and around and about, in all weather, year-round. As a result I need tough do-it-all kit that lasts.

For me this is close to the perfect fork. I've been getting into DH/FR from a background of general trail riding and at the moment this fork is a great partner. In an ideal world as I ride uphill and down it would have a lock-down/ETA, but so far I haven't had to stop and push on anything anyway so I'm happy enough that the internals are all about controlled suspension. I've actually found that my G Spot climbs steep rough trails better than the XC bikes I used to have because the suspension is less overwhelmed by bumps front and rear.

Even with "only" 6" travel (to keep the front of my bike down) I very rarely overwhelm this fork - if ever in fact. I've broken two pairs of Talas forks so I don't think I'm easy on kit either. No doubt a 25 foot huck to flat would highlight the comapratively limited travel but then again I doubt I'd enjoy the local flat tight singletrack on a pair of 200mm triples nearly as much. I don't do 25 foot to flat anyway.

Price was good for a brand new DH-capable fork. I don't mind lugging the extra weight around - I'm just getting fitter :O)

Overall worth every flaming suppository I can give it.

Its over an inch and a half taller than the Jr T that came with my Faith so I'm pretty slacked out. Other than that it kills the trail and anything that's in my way. Steeps, I laugh at them. Drops, I don't even know they are there. Speed, flawless. Climbing, well - its a 7in single crown designed to ride down (I can live with that).

Bottom Line:If you're serious about your need for this type of fork. I definitely recommend it. Plush, tight and handles tough better than Bodie and Doyle. I'm not gentle on kit but the 66 rides like a monster truck over buses and hasn't blinked. Single crown is nimble through the technical and gives more lock.

Strengths:Great looks, stiffness for a single crown of such travel, decals, paint, trail performance.
Weaknesses:Has problems holding air in the left leg and also a small oil leak if left on its side for a day or so.

Bike Setup:Foes FXR, hope big un's, Hed, Mavic, Hope M4's, Sram X.O, Easton Carbon RaceFace etc etc.
Bottom Line:The forks are ideal to ad to my trail bike that spends most of its time going downhill. I wanted to keep the bike lightish while gaining travel and precise steering.
The forks are just that....They perform very well and I was very pleased to feel how they are so simillar in performance to my old Shiver DC's without hauling the weight around. It is a shame there is no ETA as going up steep hills is an effort being such a tall fork.
The steering is precise thanx to the 20mm axle and braking is sharp. However, I am worried about reliability.
Upon leaving the bike in my car over night, a slight oil leak appeared although it didn't seem to effect the action of the fork. Also, the left leg does not hold air. you can hear it seeping out.
Apart from this and i'm sure it doesn't happen with all of the 66rc's, I am very happy with my purchase. i will have to mark it down slightly for the tech problem.
Price wise, it is cheap for the performance it delivers but expencive for a single crown. Full marks for value as I think the fork is worth the money.

Similar Products Used:White Brothers DH 2.0, Fox Talas, Boxxer
Bike Setup:Santa Cruz VP Free with Vanilla RC rear shock, Marzocchi 66 RC
Bottom Line:I couldn't have asked for a better all-around, hardcore fork. The 66 is amazingly plush over fast, rough trails, bumps and ruts are absorbed very well. Fork feels extremely stiff and stable, especially considering it's a single crown! The travel has an excellent feel, it ramps up nicely over drops and hits. I do a lot of shuttles and am pretty rough to my equipment, but I still don't see a scratch on the exterior - even after I slammed my roomate's pegged pedals into the stanchions! It's not the greatest going up hills, neither would it be suitable for top speed DH racing or the hugest drops. But if you can only have one fork and one bike to try and do a variety of rough trails, fast courses, and drops - I would recommend the 66. This thing feels as stiff as some triple crown forks on trails and is just SO responsive! I can pop it over a jumps and rocks, through rock gardens - it's a lot of fun in a tough package. I would highly reccomend it for anyone who wants a fork for black-diamond trails, drops and jumps....this is a strong SC fork for long-travel all-around trailbikes and freeriding!

Bike Setup:2004 RMB Schley Switch, 66, DHX, Mavic 521's Maxxis, RF controls and post, full saint, Cully's (now on their third bike)
Bottom Line:Ok, I have to admit the poser in me wanted these forks for the bling factor. But the moment I slapped them on my bike, I knew I was on to something special. The first time I took it on a trail I was blown away by how plush yet responsive the fork was. It was a whole league above the z150 I last used. The only time I missed my old z150 was when I had to climb - but otherwise the additional travel and stiffness kept a cheesy grin on my face.

I raced on this fork too - my old race bike was an rm7 with a super t. my switch with the 66 actually outperformed my old bike - until I crashed :) the fork to a side on hit in a rock garden. the black stanchions survived with barely a knick. I seriously doubt if my older forks would have come out unscathed. am impressed with the fit and finish.

This is the best hard use fork out there. I am telling you you will not be disappointed. Am just not looking forward to a flat tire in front - the front wheel seems really bolted in there with the 4x2 bolts

Strengths:I have the 170mm version. For a singlecrown this thing is as stiff as most triplecrowns. The adjustability is awesome. You set it up for ANY kind of riding you want to do. Crown & 35mm stantions not only look burley...they are. The air assist eleminates any need to change springs, IMO, you can make this thing as Zokie plush or as stiff as you want. Plenty of space for 3.0 too.
Weaknesses:As stated below, should be a better way to attach pump for air assist.

Bottom Line:Get this fork, if you can, I've heard you can't get any more 05's. This is th' "Latest AND th' Greatest" thing to come out in'a while, IMO. Adjustable doesn't come close to describing it, it's huckable, trail ridable, freerideable, Able to do what ever you throw at it...well you better have th' quads & lungs for it if you plan on usin' it for XC. At 1st I thought $700 was a lil' pricey for a singlecrown, now, I'd pay more if I didn't have one.

That was the best choice I ever made. This fork (66RC 150mm)is built strong, it weighs a little more but that's really not noticable when riding and the fork just looks da-bomb. The compression is so smooth. You can really throw your bike into fast and rough corners and know the tire is going to stay in contact with the ground throughout. Unlike with other forks where you may suffer jarring feedback over the rough terrain the 66RC just eats it up and asks for more.
