Product Description

Cross Country Racing Suspension

SID® is preferred by more racers and cross country riders than all other forks combined. Could be because they're the lightest XC forks you can ride. Or it could simply be that racers who use SID® win.

Strengths:    Really light - lots of settings to fiddle with to get it just how you like your fork. Not bad at takin de edge off bumps!

Weaknesses:    Lotsa flex! gets a bit of a pain when cornering - i run v brakes and the pads touch the rim when riding agressively or cornering hard. Bit pricey too....

Bottom Line:
Good fork, incredibly light - but some flex - also a little pricey. I reccommend this fork to XC racers and people who are paranoid about weight - who else needs a carbon fibre steerer???

Reccommended

Strengths:    very light, lockout can be changed at will, looks great, very tech

Weaknesses:    a little prone to flex when hammering

Bottom Line:
It is a great fork, if not a little finnicky. It has to be expected with a fork this light. The handlebar mounted lockout works great and the fork performs flawlessly. I would say that the only problem is maintenance. If having a fork that requires a little love is a bad thing then that's a weakness, but if it forces people to take care of their gear and make it work properly...good. I like it and take care of my gear so it doesn't effect me.

Strengths:    light and adjustable. fine tuning this shock is endless. it has a lot of bells and whistles to play with to get the fork just the way you want it.

Weaknesses:    this thing rides like an overcooked noodle. there is a lot of flex in the corners. i run a v-brake set up and while cornering you can hear the rim rub against the brake pad there is that much flex. i've tried adjusting the brakes to the point that they don't rub but then they are so far away from the brake that they don't work. get disc!! i'm only 145# so its not me. i've resorted to riding with it locked out most of the time. this is a nice feature which i use in reverse. i ride mostly with it locked out and unlock it going down hill or over rough terrain which the shock respondse to very well. i even put in a burly front skewer to help with the flex which helped some but not near enough.

Bottom Line:
unless you are running disc brakes, which i should be anyway, i would stay away from this fork. i ordered a fox f80x!! not worth the money.

Weaknesses:    Something to think about before you buy a Rock Shox. In 2001 I bought a 2001 Rock Shox Psylo Race ($ 699.00). I have ridding on it for two and a half to three years. Went to buy bushing and seal rebuild kit, and found that Rock Shox doesn't support parts on any shock that is three years old or older. So when I called Rock Shox up the said yes this is true the seals will work off the 2003, but we don;t make the bushings any more so I guess you will have to buy a new one. Yes I will have to buy a new one butt it wont be a Rock Shox that is only good for three years. So know I can't even sell my old one unless I want to screw someone else. the fork was a great fork when the bushings were good, but know I have an expensive boat anchor. This has to be the Rock Skox new marketing scam ( If we don't make parts to repair it they will have to buy a new one ).

Bottom Line:
If you buy one it will only be good for three year then know one else will buy it once this gets out

Strengths:    Rides like SS, NO FLEX AT ALL-
Ultra Lite-
Way Too Sexy-
Infinite tunability-
Lockout isn't really needed unless you want to Trials Ride it or do some controlled front wheelies-

Weaknesses:    Cost is up there ... for those of you who have to pay for one; doh-
Worth the money if you want the ultimate air fork ultralite-

Bottom Line:
The new 2004 SID World Cup BlackBox is miles ahead of any of the previous models released.
MUCH stronger, NO flex, Super fast responsiveness, Lighter
-I am amazed at how RockShox continues to put these physics together so well- and rails like you are on a blacktop.
It takes a literal BEATING and just doesn't care; rocks, rutts, roots, drops; it just doesn't flinch at all.
It does take a bit of getting used to as this SID has NO PLAY in it -at all- and therefore it turns without any give laterally, whatsoever!
You really have to sharpen your direction expectations on this fork or it will let you know it will put you on your @ss as it tracks like a LAZER ... NO BS!!
I have come to fully trust the BlackBox Carbon technology on this SID and I know this layout is far superior than anyone has ever experienced -or expected- prior to this model year and design quality.
It is truely one remarkable ultralite with the heart of a Monster T ... bottom line-
Did I say it was "TOO Sexy for it's clothes", well, it is all that ... too- (if it were a Girl ... she'd NEVER BE ABLE TO SLEEP)!!!
About the previous posting on the Knocking sound and expansion nut problems ... need to send that fork in and Have RS have a peep at it.
I have beat the living daylights out of this fork in a free riding / racing fashion training on the LaPierre and It Is As TRUE NOW As It WAS WHEN I INSTALLED IT; just TRUE all the way ... what a "babe" of a UltraLite it IS-
(Did I mention it was SEXY, TOO ... hee-hee!)
LIFE is great ... on a mountain bike!!!

Strengths:    Strong, compared with weight, stabile when steering (surprising for such a light fork)the rest I have to find out in the future.

Weaknesses:    A knocking sound as if there is space between steerer tube and fork, but there is nothing wrong it comes from inside fork.Expansion plug slides out of carbon steerer tube, retightened frequently.rebound adjuster inside easely worn out.

Bottom Line:
Would like to know what is causing the knocking sound when riding over bumps. For the rest this fork is full adjustable and therefore very stiff compared with weight of fork (rider weights 74 kg)
Not for heavy riders because of material used(carbon crown, magnesium, titanium brakeposts and remote lockout)aspecially not when using disc brakes.
