This fork has been very reliable and extremely inexpensive which is great. Please be advised though that not all judy's are the same. I had an 05 judy xc and it was nothing but JUNK! But they seemed to have gotten the year before just right...then they had to mess with things.

Great beginner fork! I recomend it for new riders. Held up very well. Mostly maintenance free. Stiff. For light riders like me does not bottom out. Overall really good quality
Weaknesses:
Gets sticky and almost locked out at times. Some stanchion lube does the trick. Preload adjustment has little effect at all.

Bottom Line:
ive had this fork for over a year now and have just upgraded to a pike (because i got a bargain). i use dthis fork for everything but mainly skate park and dirt jumping. the stiffness was great in these applications and i found them great. they seemed plenty strong enough for the task too - ive cased some 4m gap jumps pretty badly and they still keep kicking fine - i find theyre just as good as marzocchi djs at the park or trails. theyre not so good on the singletrack or DH though - theyre too stiff and can give you a bit of a workout. i feel drops pretty harshly - anything over 6ft is a bit rough. still highly recommended to anyone wanting to ride skate park and dirt jumps, but not if you mainly ride DH or XC out in the bush - too stiff and not enough travel anyway.

Not a terrible fork for a beginner, but I will be replacing it with an air fork to decrease weight dramatically and get the rebound adjustment I need. Strengths:
None. Except doesn't bob on the climbs following wet rides.
Weaknesses:
Seals not capable of keeping out the wet. Large quantities of grease ejected from fork seals initially then they seize up when moisture gets in. Heavy and basic performers (this can be forgiven - they are a budget fork)
Similar Products Used:
Suntour XCC / XC60, RST, 2001 Judy TT on Hire Fleet Various Bombers and Fox, personal use.
Bike Setup:
Hire hardtails, subjected to light XC use.
Bottom Line:
Dreadful forks, may be adequate on sunny dry trails but avoid at all costs if you ride in wet muddy conditions (England). I have had to return about seven pairs so far, some after first outings. Seemingly the seals are just not capable of use without fork boots but have been specced regardless (the 01 TTs and Suntours have endured the same use without problems). These forks are a complete liability and not worthy of the name of a supposed quality manufacturer. I will not purchase Rock Sh** again.

Original equipment fork for my 2004 Cannondale F300(price reflects cost of bike, I would not pay $425 for this fork). This is strictly an entry level fork. Do not attempt high drops or downhill/free ride with this fork! If I was Rock Shox I would class this as a touring/comfort fork (with the GPS Metro) instead of a mountain bike fork. Keep it well lubricated or you will get a jerky rebound. Pre-Load dial is there for looks. It doesn't work very well. Heavy!!! Judy stickers coming off (don't like them anyway) But is is durable and is fairly stiff

These forks have worked well. They have improved in smoothness over time and have developed no slop or play after 100's of hrs. of offroad riding. I keep them well greased, upper and lower bushings, with krytox gpl 226. They are medium sprung, stiffer than some of the long travel air forks, but predictable and controllable. They don't dive when you get on the bike or during braking. Have not had them display any objectionable traits such as hard bottoming or bobbing, even with no oil damping. I would like lighter forks when these wear out, but these are doing a good job.

Bottom Line:
As a strictly recreational rider who likes to get out on trails, old logging roads, the occasional road cruise with friends this is a very reasonable fork as far as I am concerned. I'm about 200 lbs (that's about 90 kilos for the metric users) and I don't find it too stiff and neither does it seem to bottem out significantly for me. I'm not pounding downhill or trying any stunts or jumps, so I suppose I'm not taxing them to the limit. If that's the sort of stuff you intend doing then maybe this is not the fork for you. But if you are looking for a decent recreational fork that helps deal with what off road trails throw at you while out for a ride then these should suit you fine.

Strengths:
Quite stiff, nice and plush and no I'm not fatso, i'm 35kg! smooth action, light, spring suits me perfectly.
Weaknesses:
No proper damping control so it can prove bouncy on the really rough stuff or on jumps and drops (rebound being to quick in my opinion). Preload does just about nothing, if they bottom out under your weight on the lowest preload setting they'll do the same on the highest preload setting aswell.

Bottom Line:
Considering it aint no Dorado and dont campare it with FoxForx!!! it is quite a good suspension fork for its price, smooth action and torsional stiffness was good. If you are a demanding, rough rider, this fork will bottom out harshly and will end up flexing heaps. No oil damping means getting bounced around on technical climbs.

It's a bargain.
As good as maintanence free (short of keeping the legs cleaned and lubed).
Stiff.
Improved weight over 03 TTs (5.07lbs vs the present 4.96)
Clean design.
80mm of Adaquate travel for most uses.
Weaknesses:
Soft stock springs requiring max preload for heavy riders.
Friction damper work too well. Insensitive to road/small bumps.
Extremely stiff preload adjuster knobs.
Similar Products Used:
RSTs Mag21SL 97 and 04 Judy XC
Bike Setup:
GT LTS on 97 Judy XC Easton Cokecan on 04 Judy XC
Bottom Line:
The cheapest branded fork you can get.
The stiffness of the fork and length of travel provided is excellent. The lack of adjustiable damping doesn't matter for the price i paid. Medium to heavy bump responses is adaquate but the amount of stiction in the stanctions needs to be reduced. And the preload knob on the 04 TTs is so stiff it bruised quite a few knuckles. Took it apart and regreased the whole assembly. It probably needs a few more months to wear in.
Good for beginners or commuters looking for a durable fork that does not bust the bank. Serious recreational riders and above should go for at least a Judy XC for its lighter chassis(3.52lbs), hydracoil damping (non-adjustiable but good enough) which improves its small bump sensitivity.

Bottom Line:
This fork will never see anything but road grime on my bike. I commute 23 miles round trip each day and in this capacity the fork works great. Over the 3 weeks it's been on my commuter I have experienced nothing but smooth, flex free action (A little Judy Butter helps the smooth part and I should note that I weigh about 210 lbs. so am familiar with what flex is). The fork does not bob, bind or display any negative characterisics except becoming less supple when temps dip into the low 30's. Oh, yea - it weighs more than the annual agricultural output of some 3rd world countries. So, $67, smooth, flex-free action, no bobbing and is apparently built to survive nuclear attack. I give it 4 "for the way I use it" chilis.
