Great forks for beginers, city slickers, or somewhat experienced riders. If your friends make fun of you because they are the stock forks tell them to shove it because they are actually pretty good. You don't need to go buy some 500 dollar set of forks to be a good rider, these are great.

Big & beefy stanchions, look nice and the crown is on par with some triple clamps in size. Can soak up just about any thing, managed to take them off a 12ft drop, landed harsh and they just soaked it up. Fantastic option for those on a tight budget
Weaknesses:
Little bit heavy but unless your an XC freak you aren't going to notice it. Rebound can be a little bit slow and sluggish for small bumps eg roots etc Drop outs chip quite easily
These were my first back in 05 bought 2nd hand but weren't even bedded in. Have yet to break them despite cranking my headtube and writing off a couple of front wheels! and plenty of other stacks. Awesome for newbies and those on a budget. If you get offered a set, grab 'em and see just how much they can take cus they're bombproof

Well, I got these extended out to 130mm and had lighter oil put it, which makes them a far more respectable trail fork. For jumping, the stock setup kicks ass. I nose-down landed from about 2m up onto concrete and these forks ate it like it wasnt there. I didn't even feel them bottom. Similar landing would have snapped my old RockShox. If you're light, let most of the air out, don't worry about bottoming them out. They look awesome, the crown is big enough to eat other forks for dinner. Good budget fork, especially if you want something bombproof and don't care much about adjustment.

Not sure, couldn't get past the weaknesses. But seriously, the fork worked decently (it held my front wheel to my headtube, anyway) for 2 and a half years, and I guess that's not bad.
Weaknesses:
I cracked the crown twice, and I think the internals are blown (I've been told, I can't tell the difference). Also, the springs it came with were too soft.

Bottom Line:
I have a nasty habbit of cracking rims, and I'm not the smoothest of riders, but I've never broken a frame (yet), so I don't see why this fork had to crack twice. I'm not even doing anything that could weaken it (ie. using a 24" back wheel, or putting it on a bike built for shorter forks). I plan to continue riding it though. I don't have the $ to replace it. Luckily half the time I'm either in the air, or manualling, so my theory is that it should last a bit longer still before it snaps right off. PS. On an unrelated topic, I'm selling a mint condition 2003 Marzocchi Dirt Jumper III. Only got ridden once. Make me an offer.

Turns out, I just got the same kinda fork (absolutely NO difference), for $150...The dealer claims it was Marzocchi's fault. (I have my doubts, but figured I'd put it in regardless....) Oh, and the second fork also seems to have a slight bend in the steer tube (but I must admit, that one was my fault)

I broke one harm and two teeth on the impact with the ground. Thereafter, my local bike shop offered me to give the boken fork to marzo and they would sell me a 2004 dirt jumper 3 qr20 at minimal cost. I thaught it would be a good idea because those dirt jumper 2004 had their steer tube and crown improved. I was wrong : one of my friend recently discovered some crack in his 2004. Every time we see someone with a dirt jumper, we look at his crown only to discover the same problems I've mentioned before. As you can guess, I no longer trust those marzocchi anymore.

Bomb-Proof, has soaked up anything and everything I've thrown at it.
Weaknesses:
Although it's bomb-proof, it scratches easier than anything. The inside components are quality made, the paintjob is the worst. I leaned it against some stairs and lifted it off gently, the whole side is all scratched up already. BRUTAL!
These forks suck if they aren't adjusted properly. I rode one and it was stuff and stuck and felt like muck. GET THEM ADJUSTED and they can do anything, even trails and climbs.
Similar Products Used:

Bottom Line:
This fork was a great suprise; I was afraid of weight and the slow rebound and stiffness being a lightweight (140 pounds). LBS basically removed all the air from it, it soaks up everything and I can't bottom it out no matter how hard I try. Doesn't bob on climbs, can still hop and wheelie pretty decently.
Not THAT heavy...and it really depends on the rest of your bike too; I've rode DJ3's on a lot of different bikes and some bikes just naturally feel heavier up front than others.

STRONG!!!!! a lot more plush than the older models
When I first got the fork i was amazed at how it looked first of all. The thing is BEEFY! You can tell just by looking at it that the fork is made to take punishment. It was a little heavy at first for like the first week or so but you get used to it real quick and the plushness right out of the box is great. I've noticed that I can lift up my front end a lot easier now. Stickers are still great. I've had the fork soaking wet and rubbed around a couple branches and rocks but they still look great with no sign of falling off. For DJ or FR or UR this for is awesome. It soaks up pretty much everything you can think of. IT is not made for XC, so when you ride around in some places you can feel the weight. Going uphill, i think it works great. I'm totally happy with this purchase. I totally recommend this fork if your looking for something strong, something versitle, and something that isn't too expensive.

If you dirt jump or do drops this is an awsome fork. I would recommend the 130 millimeter or 5" model so if you don't have air in the fork, it will be plush and you get 4" of travel.

Strong, Easy to dial in using only the shock pump which allows great versatility, the springs are fairly stiff, bombproof, unable to bottom out with correct sag, smooth, and last but not least the price! Perfect for the rider who does not want to play with adjustments every time they ride. Also it looks freakin sick, so thick and allows as far as I know up to a 2.7 tire, at least!
Weaknesses:
Heavy as hell, The shorter travel Marzocchi went to. Now 110mm instead of the former 130mm. Although they do make a travel conversion kit for this fork, allowing it to become 130mm - for a price of course.

Schwinn DS2 3&1/2 inch travel, Answer 3' Risers, Weyless 80mm stem, Irc Mythos seat, DJ3, Maxxis 2.5 front and 2.35 rear Mobster Tires, Truvative crankset, Alex rims, all the rest stock. Built to handle some light cross country, but mainly designed for urban assault.
Bottom Line:
The Dirt Jumper 3 by Marzocchi is a great fork regardless of the weight, and by all means will hold up under almost any situation you can throw at it. 7&1/2 foot drops are no problem, but it is not really the best cross country fork 1) because of the weight, and 2) because of the rebound speed. Unfortunately I am not adept enough mechanically to tear apart the fork and switch oil to a lower viscosicty. This fork is with out a doubt built more around the one time big hit. Also if you are a big guy such as myself at 200 pounds, have no fear, the springs are far stiffer than that of the Psylos or the Blacks. This fork has a wide range of adjustability for everyone big and little due to the air shock/coil build. Buy this fork if you have any reservations about it working for your riding conditions go with something higher priced, but for a weekend warrior such as myself, there is nothing even close in the price range @245, from any other company. I could not be happier, but bear in mind, I have never really experienced any top of the line components. This fork has improved my bike, performance wise, as well as aesthetically. The DJ3 also improved my confidence, and ability to ride knowing that when I huck my equipment will not fail me! And for all the naysayers I am sorry you have experienced the best and simply had to settle on the DJ3, but for the price this thing can not be beat!!!!

Strengths:
Strong and well made. Works well out of the box, since it's simple with no adjustments to fiddle with. Great for the "buy it and ride it" type of rider or a beginner who is hard on their stuff.
Weaknesses:
Overbuilt (for most of us out there) and ridiculously heavy. This fork weighs 7 lbs! My 2003 Jr.T on my RM7 is lighter than this thing! Also, I've played with the oil viscosities and heights and still can't slow down the rebound to work for me anywhere but on the street. Also, I think the springs are too stiff, not too soft like some have said. I weigh 165 lbs and have to run 0 psi in order to get the proper sag out of the fork. How much do some of you weigh? Or do you not realize the fork is supposed to sag about an inch when you sit on it?

Norco 250, pretty much stock except for a Chris King headset and ODI lock-ons.
Bottom Line:
This is a decent fork, but for the same amount of money, you could get a Psylo with more adjustability and it's 3 lbs. lighter! I've seen Kurt Voeris and Jeff Lenosky both kill sh!t on a Psylo and keep rolling.

Alittle heavy, rebound damping alittle slow out of the box

Bike Setup:
2004 Kona Cowan, 2004 DJ3, Shimano XT (shifters, cassette, derailleurs, disc hubs), Hayes HFX-Mag brakes, Raceface Diabolus stem and seatpost, Raceface Turbine LP ISIS crankset, and Mavic D521 CD Rims.
Bottom Line:
Yes the 2004 DJ forks are heavy, no doubt about that. But why are they so heavy? The 2004 DJ is one of the first true Dirtjumping forks designed to actually take some real abuse. For 2004 the stantions are steel, no more light alluminum, this creates stronger stantions so that less Marzocchi DJ forks have broken stantions. For 2004 the steerertube remains steel like it was for 2003 but the steerer tube is reinforced for roughly the bottom 3-4 inches with a thick steel insert, this makes for less, or no Marzocchi DJ forks having the steerertube snap. If you have broken alot of forks then the 2004 DJ line may be a solution, giving you more durablity, the cost is going to be in the weight department.
The only adjustment on the DJ3 is the air preload (also found on the Z1 Drop-off 2, DJ1, DJ2, and a few other forks), which allows for a wide range of preload adjustment. Also the air preload will allow for a increasing spring rate which will make it harder to bottom out the fork, while still getting the proper sag set-up.
Other than preload there are no external or internal adjustments on the fork, but what do you expect for such a low price. There are methods of playing with the oil viscosity, and oil height which can dramatically change the feel of the fork, and do the same if not more than the external adjustments that you find on higher priced forks.
So since the DJ forks are actually dirtjump forks for 2004, they don't work that well out of the box as a trail fork. First recomendation is to flush out the stock 7.5 weight oil, and replace it with 5 weight oil. This will speed up the rebound damping; in turn gets rid of the knocking sound.
If you are looking for a trail fork, I would recomend the 2004 Z1 Drop-off 2 which is a similar fork just with alloy stations and an alloy steerertube. If you are on a budget the DJ3 is the most burly lowest price aftermarket fork avalible from any company. You could also look for a 2003 Marzocchi DJ fork which will be significantly lighter (roughly 2.5 lbs.) because of alloy stantions, and a non-reinforced steerertube.

good fork but it should come stock with 130mm. its stupid that you have to go out and buy the extra spring. If you want this fork maybe you should just think about getting the DJ1's or DJ2's.
