Strengths:    Tough as nails, Swiss army knife of hard tails

Weaknesses:    Fork, stock seat post

Bottom Line:
I bought this bike in 03 on the recommendation from a friend and after reading some reviews on this site. I’d been riding a rigid fork, steel frame 30+ lb Jamis for a few years and was looking for something new. This bike really juiced up my rides. Climbing suddenly became a breeze and descents a lot more enjoyable. I’d never go rigid again. My wife has also started riding this bike as she’s tall enough for the frame and has a blast. I’d recommend this bike for anyone looking for an all-around mtn/urban bike.

Strengths:    Fast and built to take a pounding

Weaknesses:    Pretty heavy, the front derailler is poor quality.

Bottom Line:
Well, I lightened it up a bit with the changes I made. I liked it when it was stock, I love it now! All my other bikes (including my FSR) haven't seen much action since I got this one. You can throw it around and pound it out on the trails and it just keeps on going. Just alot of fun to ride.

Strengths:    Price, frame geometry, good Sp Enduro trail tires in hardpack, clay, sand of OK, but make you work on the pavement. Rear Deore derailler smooth when tuned. Good stability going downhill, and balance overall.

Weaknesses:    Freewheel came loose first ride, came loose again. Dealer replace the hub to Deore and no problems since. Cranks creak since first ride (really muddy), and I can feel 'em flex when I really get on them, but no permanent damage (I'm 220lbs). Breaks squeak after a bit, but good otherwise. Specialized Enduros 2.2 tires are starting to shred after 6 months riding (~500 mi). MZ comp fork seems a bit soft in turns, and bike overall isn't extremly nimble, but its a 21". Bike may be a little heavy for someone lighter than myself. Front derailler slow, rear Deore has taken a beating on rocks, etc., and needs adjustment once in a while. Lot of chain slap on rough terrain, but get a lizard skin and just get used to it.

Bottom Line:
Great bike for the price. Most of the problems are general wear, tear, bumps and bruises, except for the manufacture defect I recieved in the rear hub. Haven't experienced any flex or spoke problems others have mentioned w/ SUN Ditch Witch rims, and I'm a heavy rider. Can really fly on single track, and keep up with the more expensive bikes. Would buy it again if looking for a bike in the same price range. Can always upgrade the components in needed. Great for beginners, good frame for upgrading.

Strengths:    Frame- super tough
brakes- wicked broady's...

Weaknesses:    pedals are crud- i guess they had to make a shortcut somewhere. chain slaps the front deraillier(which has a little play now)

Bottom Line:
I thought i'd write in and let you know how my bikes doing after 6 months of use as this was one of those websites which convinced me that this was the bike for me.
Well, ive ridden this bike pretty hard. its been on the mbr and red bull routes at coed-y-brenin a couple of times and I take it to nottingham and cannock chase to do the singletrack out there. To be fair, my bikes had a hard time, and so far ive replaced the right hand brake gear shifter combo(coz i crashed), the rear wheel(ive worn out the hub and buckled the rim), pads and the other bits mentioned above.
after alls said and done though, if i had my money again i'd still go out and buy another hardrock pro. its a tough bike with good components and i would have given any bike for £500 a run for its money by now. the brakes are pin sharp and the bike feels comfortable to ride, and ever since i upgraded the forks to Z1 wedges those really steep rocky downhill bits are so much more fun to ride down.
You need to consider buying this bike if £500 is all the money you have.

Strengths:    i have had no problems with any of the stock components or the frame

Weaknesses:    I had to replace the crank once i made a minor upgrade to a shimano deore crankset which solved all the crank problems i had to replace the stock tires (specialized enduro 2.0) after the first 300 miles the worked good in dry conditions but failes miserably in mud the deore derailer shifts pretty slow.

Bottom Line:
i love this bike i have put about 1000 miles on it and most components have held up the bike is kind of weighty for cross country racing but i have put it through 10 races. i recomend this bike tany beginers who want to start riding but a soon upgrade will follow

Strengths:    Very light compared to what I rode before. Incredible disc breaks. This bike stops on a dime, in any condition. I was riding this bike in the city during rush hour and got great control out of it. A very responsive bike. The Judy TT shocks give this bike an extra kick. Going down hill this bike picks up alot of speed and hits rocks hard. As a new rider I was not planning to get alot of air, but this bike took me pretty high up. When things got to crazy the disc breaks came in real handy. This bike is extremely responsive.

Weaknesses:    Haven't found a weakness yet. I got this bike in the winter time, and am now just starting to figure it out.

Bottom Line:
This bike is good, really good. Especially for a city slicker who wants to do some mountain biking on the weekends/sick days. This bike can get you around town in a flash and make you look good too. Raise your seat up and you can cover alot of ground on cement. But when you take this bike to the outdoors, you really see what it can do. I rode this bike in the Rockies, in 4 feet of water, and in the concrete jungle, she handles it all great. I just bought the same bike for my dad, reckomend it to anyone, especially if you find Some Guy who has it for a good price. Overall if you want to get into mountain biking, but do not want to drop alot of cash, check out this bike. I comes with alot of quality components, which take it to another level.

P.S. Used this site and your review to make my purchase, best decision ever!!!

Strengths:    excellent strong ass frame, stops on a dime, fork works good (for me anyways, i am 116 lbs), jumps and flies like an airplane considering it's slight heaviness

Weaknesses:    third gear slipped out at first (but was fixed by just adjusing the shifting) seat sucks, pedals are terrible (plastic eew ive seen costco bikes with better pedals) chain smacks the bar off jumps so i just run in at least third speed to raise the chain, or i just ignore the noise. all i can think of. no parts have loosened up or broke for me yet anyways

Bottom Line:
pretty good bike for what you get. excellent bike actually. i havent noticed any wear on it yet, the only thing that is crap on this ride would have to be the stupid seat and pedals which can be replaced. the seat hurts your ass bad, and the left plastic pedal shredded when i was going like 15 on the road, slammed on the back brake purposely to attempt a 180 and fell. many of you guys i noticed who reviewd this said that it is "very" heavy, but you wont know a heavy bike until you feel an old metal frame bike like my old mountain bike. this bike feels like nothing at all weightwise to me. the chain slaps the alumninum on the back when you land a jump, so i just run in third gear and it was fixed. otherwise, i just ignore the noise and it doesnt bother me at all.

i mainly like going downhill on bikes just because i like the thrill of just going super fast, and this bike had no problem at all. stopped when i wanted to. jumps are easy with this rig and dont give you that "shock" feeling on your hands when you land on a bike that has no fork like my old bike. made to jump. get it

Strengths:    Great frame light and strong ive used mine for freeride and its taken the big hits easy rides nicer than my mates haro escape i only weigh 130 pounds tho

Weaknesses:    Sometimes your foot rubs against the front tyre when turning shap

Bottom Line:
i only got the frame for the simple reason that i wanted to upgrade this bike and i thought wen it breaks i will get a better bike cos it was so cheap but IT SIMPLY WONT BREAK ive landed 4-5 foot drops done heaps jumps and crashed heaps and its been really good its light and strong make hell of a difference not having crappy forks and wheels

Strengths:    Frame. Components have been much more resilient than expected after hard rides and spills. I had the idea that this baby wasn't made for trails. I beg to differ. Great beginner bike. Love the disc brakes. Front shocks have held up nicely.

Weaknesses:    Seat isnt't the most comfortable. Did not come with clipless pedals. The bike is on the heavy side but that just made me feel more comfortable bringing it through anything.

Bottom Line:
For the money and for a beginner, this bike is the bomb. I couldn't have asked for more. Placed 4 out of 21 in my first race and I started at the back of the pack and with people busting ass in front of me. Looking for a pretty big upgrade since I plan on doing a lot more racing, but definitely keeping the Hardrock Pro disc. Took the advice from most of the reviews on this site. Do it.
