Strengths:    Nice, smooth ride from steel. Cheap price. Insanely strong frame proves to be its downfall... Good value wheelset.

Weaknesses:    Even with light street use, Shimano shifters are worse than nothing. Front deraillier stopped functioning and is unfixable. Rear need tuning constantly. ChroMoly frame is VERY VERY heavy. Lousy brake levers. No quick release in the rear. Seat is uncomfortable. Gripshift doesn't work very well.

Bottom Line:
My advice is to stay away from this bike. I used it (its my dad's) for some light singletrack while my bike was being upgraded. The front shifter stopped working for some reason and nobody can seem to get it to work. I am forced to adjust the back shifter all the time to keep it from skipping all over the place. The brakes are spongy and unresponsive, but the wheels are decent and stay true.

There are better deals to be found... spend an extra $70, or even $50 and upgrade to an aluminum frame with Altus shifters and you will notice a world of difference from the crapola SIS.

Recomended: NO

Strengths:    Good sturdy frame decent front shocks with relitively shallow travel, good basic shimano hardware setup - works just fine (if one treats it with a little care since this in not a $1000 downhill dual suspension bike with top-notch hardware) The seat is fine the rims are fairly strong.

Weaknesses:    Prone to rust in seat stem, plastic pedals (replaced) V-Brakes work fine if you are under 200lb but for me being 6'4 and 210lb I whacked some shimano mech discs on. Now the darn thing can stop! This one is fairly heavy.

Bottom Line:
This bike is GOOD. It satisfies my needs for trail riding, downhill work and handles drops well. a good basic setup - mine has only marginally been upgraded and now it goes like a charm - the cheaper shimano componants work just fine. I hope you all find this review enlightening...

Strengths:    Relatively light steel frame, decent brakes

Weaknesses:    Can't get into gear. Components are crap.

Bottom Line:
I hate this bike. I can't believe i bought this sad excuse for a mountain bike. I put about 20 miles on it the first day and this bike left alot to be desired. DO NOT BUY A MONGOOSE, spend an extra bill and get a real bike.

by the way I returned it the next day!

Strengths:    Price, Its a great beginner bike, Holds up well in all conditions, I beat on a bike good being 200 lbs abd it does fine.

Weaknesses:    cheap components, not bad though

Bottom Line:
buy this if you arent expecting alot. its a good bike if you arent sure if you want to ride alot, I got it as a starter before spending alot on a high end. the bike worked well enough to make me really enjoy riding so I think Ill upgrade soon.

Strengths:    Strong frame, sturdy cranks good front shocks (hardtail)
Got Shimano CV450 Slotted rotor & hydraulic calp for front hub superb stopping pwr all conditions.

Weaknesses:    Rims, rear V-Brakes quite heavy - a big problem when licking air doing a drop-point pivot over an L2 slalom, I cant stress that one enough!

Bottom Line:
Damn good platform to upgrade - this series of bike has an extremely resiliant frame and can stand up to some extremely rough treatment. My Giant can't fair against it. This isn't really a mongoose anymore as virtually nothing excepth the frame is original.
