Strengths:    Performance, craftmanship, durability, comfort...

Weaknesses:    None

Bottom Line:
I love my 2009 Merlin XLM bike. I bought this frame new from www.RBikes.com, they are authorized Merlin dealer. This is an outstanding frame that can last for as long as you live. I have an old Litespeed Obed '97 Titanium XTR group and there is no comparison in performance. The new XLM weighed a tad 2.8 lbs (16.5"). It handles like a dream when put together properly. It has that responsive supple ride that great titanium posses. It handles precisely. It is comfortable. It accelerates effortlessly and It climbs like a goat! It is so light that every pedal stroke is converted into forward motion. I find myself using taller gears and going much quicker. Again without too much effort. Now that is fun! This bike is great for Singletrack XC riding style. It is well balanced bike that can be used on trail features like skinnies, log jump, drops etc. Absolutely worth the money and wait!

Strengths:    Light, stiff, strong. Beautifully made. Lifetime warranty

Weaknesses:    Well, it is spendy.

Bottom Line:
Clearly it is time for a real review. This is one of the best hardtails out there. I had a 1992 Merlin Mountain and the XLM is stiffer in the BB *and* lighter. Nice. My 1997 XLM developed a crack at the bottom bracket weld, and Merlin replaced the frame, no questions asked. It is a shame that it broke, but getting a brand new frame was well worth it.

I have the new frame built up with some light weight parts, but also some heavier stuff that just works. All told it weighs just under 23 pounds, which is decent enough considering the tubeless, the disc brakes, and the fact that I don't have to ride a SID. My 1997 XLM weighed 21 with rim brakes and tubed tires.

The bike is one of the best singletrack machines I have been on. It just feels *right*. An adjustable travel fork is a nice feature on this frame, as it handles pretty wel at 100mm, but at 80 over the smooth stuff the bike handles almost synaptically.

Strengths:    Pretty Fast and Light

Weaknesses:    Should have come with a motor for so much $$$

Bottom Line:
If you have a bunch of money and don't know what to do with it then this is the bike for you. But no one will care that you have this bike cause you will always be slower than someone. Plus, if I didn't know any better, I'd say this bike was only around a $1000 bike.
