Favorite Trail:forrest, otways
Duration Product Used:3 months
Price Paid: $350.00
Purchased At:ebay
Strengths:nice snappy frame. looks mean and very strong. i thinks the bends in the rear triangle of the frame provide some sort of dampening like suspension. comes with a cane creek headset!
Weaknesses:short top tube means it wont suit some riders and can get tiring over long rides. it also makes it really easy to lift the front wheel by accident on steep climbs which can stuff you right up. its also quite heavy with stock components
Similar Products Used:GT, Apollo
Bike Setup:full LX components, manitou 6 shox, tektro calipers, gt handlebars. maxxiss larssens on trails and schwalbe city jets on the road
Bottom Line:i ride this bike to work every day of the week and have also started to ride some trails.i quite like the frame, i find it so much easier to ride on trails than my gt. however the gt was great to ride on the road over distance. it is easy to manoeuver around on trails and jumps. i haven't fully tested it yet but the frame looks to be very strong. mine came with all the LX gear on it and is not heavy but my friend has one all stock and its pretty heavy. i think its a reasonable frame but mainly if you want to ride trails without to much climbing. i wouldn't buy this bike/frame for commuting

Duration Product Used:Less than 1 month
Price Paid: $340.00
Purchased At:360 cycleworks
Strengths:geometry
looks
seats
bars
Weaknesses:cheap-feeling brakes
plastic pedals
brake&shifter unit
Similar Products Used:trek 4300, 4500; fisher advance, marlin; hardrock comp; kona hahana, etc; giant rincon, yukon;
Bike Setup:aluminum pedals
soon to come Deore/LX componentry (levers, shifter, derailleurs, brakes, etc)
Bottom Line:At this entry level price-range, pick whichever bikes feel best for you. This one happened to have a geometry that I loved. I tried the standard fare, and the Giants were equally good. I just happened to pick out this one... it helps that the butted frame looks good and Fujis are rare. The Trek had a terrible daisy Upright geometry. The Fisher--even the Genesii-didnt feel exactly right. Hardrock were built like wal-mart bikes. Kona was too plain.

After a week I had a slight freeplay within the bottom bracket, but it was fixed/replaced by the shop. The brakes stop okay, but look cheap and has a soft spongy feel (even after adjustment). The Acera/Alivio combo shifts surpringly smooth and quick. I don't like the big clunky integrated shifter/brake unit. I'll probably upgrade those to Deores later (cheap upgrade)

If I had to do it all over again, I'd probably look at the Fuji Outland (upgraded componentry everywhere, and better rear triangle) or an 03 Giant Yukon or something like that. But again, go out and ride them, and buy what you feel best.
