If you want to keep the bike stock buy a haro, they have the best stock components for their bikes, if you want to upgrade get this bike the frame is great.

It is a very good bike for the money. However, if I get some more money i would probably chang the fork, but everything else is staying. This bike is for the weekend warior who wants to have a lot of fun, but still wants to have money left over. I can do almost any trail at Palmer Park with it and I am not one of the best riders. I beat the crap out of this bike, have taken about 4 good falls and the bike has not suffered from it, only my knees and elbows. The bike seems to be tough and has good components for the money. I bent the seat somehow and got a good deal on a titanium replacement for $30 from somerville cyclery (thanks), good deal. The wheels are tough and tires are good. Shifting is responsive and brakes are great. Climbs great over mudd, rocks and logs.
Haven't taken any big drops, not ready for that yet. | | Weaknesses: | Paint chips easily ( no biggy to me ), the derailers have been giving me problems with the chain slipping off the rear on the high gear. Might be mudd related? I tried this bike out and it was very stable in the wheelie position, but not the best I have ever tried. But the bang for the buck convinced me to buy it and I just hoped that a more upright stem would do the trick. Boy did it ever! This bike wheelies as well as any Mtn Bike I have tried. The bike loves to do squeakers as well (going backwards on the front wheel by kicking the front tire -- a wheelie in reverse.)
For an ex-flatland freestyler, this bike provides me the opportunity to do some tricks, while still have a good all around trail bike with decent components.

The weakness of this bike is the components, but with patience you can watch local bike shop sales, ebay, and other internet sales, and upgrade this bike to a higher level with an XT setup for about $150. And in my opinion that puts this bike at the front of the line for hardtail XC bikes. Also if you are going to get serious about upgrades, the Judy fork will have to go. This bike is a special order by MBC to Diamondback. Approx 50 of these were available at $1000.00 Aus
| | Bottom Line: | Nowhere in Aus is a better bike available for the price.
The components speak for themselves. The only cheapish parts are the resin body pedals, Kalin seatpost and Dback seat(which I have found extremely comfortable even if it doesn't look like a quality seat). These items could be upgraded at low cost.
The EXR's are ace - easy to adjust and provide great feel. They recieve some good reviews on this site for low flex and durability.
The Hayes hydros have great stopping power
The grey and black paint scheme looks the part and the frame material and welds are top notch. Only area of concern here is the squash zone on the chain stay that seems to flatten the stay out considerably - it can't be doing lateral flex any good, but the frame seems pretty stiff all the same.
MBC were recently offering a special order KHS Alite 1000 for the same price, also with substantial spec upgrade from standard. I'm happy I didn't purchase the KHS as came with a Pilot C fork (there are some difinitive reviews of Rock Shocks regards reliability and service on this site); the Tektro hydro's it came with are not up to the Hayes ones and the truvative cranks have some durability probs also.
