Duration Product Used:6 months
Price Paid: $519.00
Purchased At:smart cycles
Strengths:Great frame, good brakes if you keep them out of the mud, tires,
Weaknesses:judy fork, the pedals are crap the cage fell off, just get clipless pedals when you buy the bike.
Similar Products Used:raliegh m20
Bike Setup:Fox forx vanilla 125, ea 70 stem, m540 pedals, the rest is stock
Bottom Line:I bought the bike knowing that i wanted to upgrade gradually instead of buying a new bike in two or three years and i liked the frame so i thought that it would be a good choice and i was really surprised at how well it performed stock. If you want to keep the bike stock buy a haro, they have the best stock components for their bikes, if you want to upgrade get this bike the frame is great.
fork and pedals aside it is the best bike under $600

Price Paid: $600.00
Purchased At:Cycle therapy
Strengths:great brakes and excellent frame
Weaknesses:the judy fork
Similar Products Used:GF Tassajara
Bike Setup:judy TT forks, shimano equipped
Bottom Line:great bike, worth every penny. if I had had more money when i had bought it, I wouldnt have changed anything. it definitely gets the five flaming chilies. It is a very good bike for the money. However, if I get some more money i would probably chang the fork, but everything else is staying. This bike is for the weekend warior who wants to have a lot of fun, but still wants to have money left over. I can do almost any trail at Palmer Park with it and I am not one of the best riders. If you have even considered buying this bike, go for it. You wont be disapointed.

Duration Product Used:3 months
Price Paid: $525.00
Purchased At:Somerville Cyclery
Strengths:I am a newbie to this sport and can only speak on my limited experience of less than 3 months. I beat the crap out of this bike, have taken about 4 good falls and the bike has not suffered from it, only my knees and elbows. The bike seems to be tough and has good components for the money. I bent the seat somehow and got a good deal on a titanium replacement for $30 from somerville cyclery (thanks), good deal. The wheels are tough and tires are good. Shifting is responsive and brakes are great. Climbs great over mudd, rocks and logs.
Haven't taken any big drops, not ready for that yet.
Weaknesses:Paint chips easily ( no biggy to me ), the derailers have been giving me problems with the chain slipping off the rear on the high gear. Might be mudd related? Got to drop it off at the shop.
Similar Products Used:This is my first MTB.
Bike Setup:stock except for titanium seat and toe clips.
Bottom Line:I am pleased with this bike, I have ridden a few dozen times now and have very few complaints. Great bang for the buck.

Duration Product Used:Less than 1 month
Price Paid: $500.00
Purchased At:dick's sporting goods
Strengths:Great value
Weaknesses:Too much frame flex when cranking up hill, bad to the point of throwing chain to next lower sprocket or off. Same with the the stem and front handle bars, you can hear them sqeek when you are mashing hard.
Bike Setup:LX with Judy forks
Bottom Line:I really like the bike for in the saddle riding and still thing that it was worth the money. Great bike for smaller person (I'm 230lbs) or less aggresive rider, but I get outta the seat too much and am replacing the frame with something stiffer.

Date Reviewed: July 30, 2003
Duration Product Used:Less than 1 month
Price Paid: $500.00
Strengths:Great components for the $.
Weaknesses:Slightly heavy at first, but came to life with a more upright stem.

Seat staples pulled out after 3 rides!
Pedals are complete junk.
Similar Products Used:GF Tassajara, Jamis Dakota SX
Bike Setup:Stock, except more upright stem
Bottom Line:My main goal purchasing a new bike was to find one that wheelies very easily. I tried this bike out and it was very stable in the wheelie position, but not the best I have ever tried. But the bang for the buck convinced me to buy it and I just hoped that a more upright stem would do the trick. Boy did it ever! This bike wheelies as well as any Mtn Bike I have tried. The bike loves to do squeakers as well (going backwards on the front wheel by kicking the front tire -- a wheelie in reverse.)

For an ex-flatland freestyler, this bike provides me the opportunity to do some tricks, while still have a good all around trail bike with decent components.

Favorite Trail:Priest Lake area
Duration Product Used:Less than 1 month
Price Paid: $600.00
Purchased At:Wheel sport
Strengths:Decent components for a good price, disc brakes, and the fact that bike cops use them
Weaknesses:It isn't a downhill freeride bike, but it isn't that intentionally so i really think there is nothing wrong with it
Similar Products Used:GT avalanch, Specialized Hardrock pro
Bike Setup:disc brakes, deore LX front and back, Judy shock
Bottom Line:It all works for a reasonalble price. It's an excellent entry level bike. Nothing is bottom of the line, or top of the line, and it's relatively inexpensive, so it was perfect for me. If you want a bike that works good, without paying a kajillzon dollars then get this bike

Favorite Trail:Sun Top Lookout
Duration Product Used:3 months
Price Paid: $499.00
Purchased At:BNI Sports
Strengths:Quality components for a good entry level price. The 7005 aluminum is as light as it needs to be. Strong well built bike. Good Price!!!!!!!
Weaknesses:Some mid to low end components. But with a MSRP of $550, what do you want?
Similar Products Used:Specialized Rockhopper/ Kona NUNU
Bike Setup:Mostly LX with a Rock Shox Judy fork.
Bottom Line:The bottom line is that its a good entry priced disc brake bike that won't break your pocketbook. I would highly recommend for novices, and kids just becuase the price is close to what you might pay in department stores for a much lower class bike. The weakness of this bike is the components, but with patience you can watch local bike shop sales, ebay, and other internet sales, and upgrade this bike to a higher level with an XT setup for about $150. And in my opinion that puts this bike at the front of the line for hardtail XC bikes. Also if you are going to get serious about upgrades, the Judy fork will have to go. I had a 2002 Psylo SL that lets me pretty much go where I want when I want. I will definatly look at Diamondback for my next bike.

Duration Product Used:3 months
Price Paid: $600.00
Purchased At:Melb Bicycle Centre(MBC)
Strengths:Quality of componentry for price, only afew ordinary parts. Overall feel of bike. Quality of finish. Diamondback lugs look cool waith the "D" stamped into them.
Weaknesses:Cheapish pedals,seat and post
Similar Products Used:nil
Bike Setup:The T-Comp Disc I am reviewing is substantially differet from the one in the Diamondback website. These are the specs:
7005 hardtail frame
Bomber EXR.03 fork
Deore XT gearing, sealed BB
Deore Crank
Hayes hfx9 xc hydro brakes
Formula sealed hubs, cheap but good.
Alex 2100 dual wall rims
DBack riser bar and stem
This bike is a special order by MBC to Diamondback. Approx 50 of these were available at $1000.00 Aus
Bottom Line:Nowhere in Aus is a better bike available for the price.
The components speak for themselves. The only cheapish parts are the resin body pedals, Kalin seatpost and Dback seat(which I have found extremely comfortable even if it doesn't look like a quality seat). These items could be upgraded at low cost.
The EXR's are ace - easy to adjust and provide great feel. They recieve some good reviews on this site for low flex and durability.
The Hayes hydros have great stopping power
The grey and black paint scheme looks the part and the frame material and welds are top notch. Only area of concern here is the squash zone on the chain stay that seems to flatten the stay out considerably - it can't be doing lateral flex any good, but the frame seems pretty stiff all the same.
MBC were recently offering a special order KHS Alite 1000 for the same price, also with substantial spec upgrade from standard. I'm happy I didn't purchase the KHS as came with a Pilot C fork (there are some difinitive reviews of Rock Shocks regards reliability and service on this site); the Tektro hydro's it came with are not up to the Hayes ones and the truvative cranks have some durability probs also.
The bike is super if only a touch heavy

Duration Product Used:Less than 1 month
Price Paid: $590.00
Purchased At:Tanner Bike
Strengths:great bike, very responsive, i can't tell the frame is heavier then my old specialized. The component group is great for people that just want to have fun, considering the deal and the disc brakes. Plus it look's sweet in blak and yellow.
Weaknesses:heavy? but only if your a weight freak.
Similar Products Used:specialized rockhopper, giant iguana
Bike Setup:all LX with shimano disc brakes, velociraptor tires and wellgo pedals
Bottom Line:awesome bike for people that want a good bike but aren't wanting to spend a lot of money. it has the best component group at this price point.
