Favorite Trail:Harkerville Red Route, Knysna
Duration Product Used:1 Year
Price Paid: $3800.00
Purchased At:Frame 2nd hand, parts mailordered
Strengths:Handling in the twisties, descending, climbing, workmanship, its GORGEOUS!
Weaknesses:NONE!
Similar Products Used:AMP Research B-4 for a long 7 years, GT Zaskar & RTS. Tested Intense Tracer and Santa Cruz Superlight,
Bike Setup:Manitou Black Elite 80/100,Fox Float R, Chris King ISO Disc/DT Revolution/Mavic XC717/Stan's, Race Face Deus X-Type, Avid Juicy 7, Sram X.9 triggers & X.0 rear der, Thomson Elite stem/seatpost, King headset, Easton EC70, Flite saddle, Shimano PD-M959 pedals, Hutchinson Pythons
Bottom Line:The handling of this bike is truly AMAZING. Words cannot fully explain it...you have to ride it to understand! The speed of direction changes still blows me away. Tight left-right-lefts that had me slamming on the brakes I'm now taking at twice the speed because I no longer have to manuever the bike through it. You just THINK it, and she goes. It simply flies through tight singletrack faster than I thought possible. Where before I was coasting I'm now two gears further down the casette and hammering the pedals.
Stability in turns is also incredible, even under braking, as in emergency braking because you've gone into a bend to fast again because you just cant seem to get used to how much speed this bike carries.

I find it handles best if I keep my weight in the saddle as much as possible, or my butt just a couple inches above it if it gets very bumpy and/or technical.

This bike inspires huge levels of confidence and WILL make anyone who throws a leg over it a better rider!

Oh yeah, it does climb like a mountain goat as well!

Strengths:super fast on downhills. climbs great. light ti frame.
Weaknesses:stickers are weak, took them off first week, but who cares about that, its all bout the ride. have had a problem with the rear derailer rubing on the cog, prob. not a titus thing though.
Similar Products Used:2 cannondale jekells, broke both in one month,

Bottom Line:i am a fat basturd. 6'7 and 260 lbs. broke crackinfails left and right, new titus has stood up to some hard abuse. not that i do it on purpose, just big and aggressive. no problems as of yet,and its been a year. the cheesey stickers kind of suck, but who cares about the silly stuff. had a custom ti frame made, took about as long as they say on their website. super fast looks nice, and a super beefy swing to boot. when i break this one it will be because i was being stupid, not because of lame workmanship. ps cracknfail sucks. its worth the money, to have one made custom.

Purchased At:Built it myself!
Strengths:The frame is actually a 2002 but its not like there is a big difference unless you opt for the 100mm set-up. I normally run my Litespeed but since i built the the big "X" it hasn't seen much of the outdoors. If you don't have the cash for one BEG, BORROW, and STEAL if you have to but find a way. Only one word can describe it "GOAT"! Its a freaking goat with shock absorbers.
Weaknesses:Yeah right!

2003 Avid Mech disc brakes
2003 Raceface Turbine crank/bottom bracket
2003 Raceface seatpost/stem/carbon bars
2002 XTR R.Derailleur/Shifters/Brakes levers
2004 Time Attack pedals
Sram PC99 chain/7.0 cassette
Avid Flak Jacket cables
WTB Laser saddle
Chris King headset
Bottom Line:If you don't have one buy one. If you have one don't make fun of others, its not nice.
Note: If you have a 80mm set-up opt for the 80/100mm fork. I spoke with Titus and they said its ok to run on the 100mm setting(check out their website). It takes hits alot better on 100mm and you get almost 1/2 inch more clearance on the BB. The headtube angle only changes point something and it helps with the downhill. If you're in a sprint race just pop it back down to 80mm.

Strengths:light, stiff, sexy, eye-catching. this bike feels quick and nimble under my body and climbs like a mountain goat on steroids. on the dh's this thing feels very confident and pretty smooth too.
Weaknesses:when in smallest cog in the rear, the der. rubs against the frame, but my der. has a little piece of rubber on it where it rubs so it doesn't affect anything. some of the pivot bolts came a little loose, but some locktite will solve that problem. i also don't like the fact that they use cheesy stikers on the frame.
Bike Setup:Med. Al. frame, anodised blue, full xtr (disc), thomson seatpost and stem, ritchey wcs handlebar, twin ti. egg beaters, mavic 717 rims on xtr hubs. this thing is 23.5 lbs
Bottom Line:having a sponsorship is a great thing. for the screamin' deal i got this for, its more than i could ever ask for in a bike. it does everthing my old bike couldn't do, and everything it could do, it does better! after riding it for a week, i can already know that this is an awesome bicycle. for those of you who have the big bucks, this bike is worth every dollar. at 23.5 lbs, my titus racer-x flies up hills and screams down them. I LOVE THIS BIKE (so far) i will post other reviews as i get more and more intamate with this bike. 5's all around this time around

Geometry is fantastic and the 100mm fork doesn't seem to make the bike less agile (especially if you set the sag a little lower). Bottom Line:This is my second Titus Racer X. I ordered a custom with an extra long top tube. This bike is very stable at high speeds and provides a perfect combination of a stiff, firm ride and a smooth ride. It climbs great and is terrific on both tight single track and fireroads. I have never had to do any maint. on the suspension. I have used and x-fly 80/and now a Fox 80X for racing and I use a Fox 100RLC for everday training. The 100 RLC makes this a great trail bike. Service from Titus is very good...but plan to wait about 8 vs. 5 weeks for a custom. On my new bike I switched from an XTR to a Shram XO rear. derail. and it works much better...with this suspension design.

Bottom Line:I cannot believe I waited so long or even doubted that this frame was the right choice for me. I love to climb and this bike does that wonderfully. It has made singletrack even more enjoyable,if that was possible. It just handles perfectly once you get used to the way a bike should feel. I am a big guy and this bike does not flex. What bob does exist is easily negated by a good spin or gear choice. Fit and finish is excellent at this price point. At least as important as the ride is the outstanding customer support from Titus. Same day respones to e-mail and the person who picks up the phone rides a racer x. What more can you ask? After six months I am very satisfied with my purchase. If you want a great handling bike that can actually climb up the trails you want to ride back down, this is the bike for you.

Bike Setup:Titus Racer X Alum. Duke Fork, Grip shift, Fox Shock, Avid Disc, Bontrager hubs & rims
Bottom Line:This is the first FS bike I have ridden in about 5 years(last one was a Voodoo which I hated)My first ride started out on a double track and I was not too impressed, the bike felt a little heavy compared to my Litespeed HT/SS. Pressed on to the singletrack and oh what a differnt feel! This bike really shines when it gets twisty! I was considerably faster in all the stuff I normally ride. The bike feels like you sit in it and not on top of it. Its like a HT on steroids! The more I stayed seated the faster I went. The climbs were better and I was cleaning sections with ease that ordinally take allot of effort. I rode 3 differnt local parks with fast rollers to very technical single track and the bike felt right in every situation. This has been rated as a XC bike, but for my riding I would say its an all around bike from XC to trail riding. The only weakness came from the Avid Mech. disc brakes. They seemed to rub allot. I really prefer the Avid V's and feel they are just fine in normal applications that we ride here in AZ. Other than that its a sweet ride. Thanks to the guys over at South Mountain Cycles in Phoenix and Titus for hooking me up with this demo.

Strengths:This is my second review now that I've done 6 more races including 24 Hours of Adrenaline. This bike still shreds through the twisty single track and has, on many occasions, gotten me out of some serious trouble because of its handling. I'm almost scared to test its limits and I've even put slicker / faster tires on it to get a little more "play" which has sped me up even more.
Weaknesses:There really are none but I still think the deraileur clearence of the rear chainstay is something that could be addressed though I'm 1 moonlight project away from buying XO and dumping XTR which will probably solve this. I also wish that I had gotten an Anodized version because the paint seems to get a "dull" look from sweat and sun despite waxing and using bike-lust. Maybe they need one more coat of clearcoat.
Similar Products Used:My brother-in-law's YZ450, my old Stumpjumper FSR XC
Bike Setup:XTR rear der and shifters, Thomson seatpost and stem, King HS and hubs, Maxm isogrid flat bar (sweet), Selle SLR Gellflow (sweet), Mavic 517 Rims, Maxxis Wormdrives or Kenda Climax Lites depending on the conditions.
Bottom Line:I hate to admit that it took me a while to get used to this bike...it responds in a way that can surprise you. I've found myself going into technical sections too fast and just prior to smacking a tree, I simply throw the bar in the direction I needed to go and the bike responds instantly...on my old bike, I would have smacked the tree with a shoulder or worse. I do notice a slight gain in speed by locking out the rear on climbs but when the suspension is on it's barely noticeable. Most of the time, I'm not certain that the rear is locked out until a bumpy downhill ...then I unlock it and the ride is smooth. I really would like to put a Fox F80X on it because it would make it much stiffer and a stable-platform would be great when standing up. While getting used to the bike, I had a hard time controling the front end while doing technical climbs...it would seem sketchy. I shortened my 130mm stem to 110mm and after a few more rides, I found it climbed much smoother than my old bike...once again it was technique issue rather than a bike issue. Actually, if you buy or test-ride one, do not be freaked out if it seems a little squirrely at first...this is really the bike responding to shakey inputs that your old bike used to ignore. It only takes a couple weeks before you become a fast and smooth demon on this bike.

Regarding the price...This frame is in the space as an Ellesworth Truth but for $500 less.

Strengths:1) Build Quality - assembly, welds are very high quality
2) laterally stiff - well designed geometry
3) suspension performance from 4-bar linkage
4) Balanced handling - not too quick, definately not slow
5) Titus customer service
6) Interchangable shocks (new rear shock technology works wonderfully)
Weaknesses:1) It took a little while to arrive after my order was placed but it was well worth the wait.
Similar Products Used:Specialized FSRs, Cannondale Hardtails
Bike Setup:Sram X0, '03 XTR crankset, Manitou Swinger 4-way, avid mechanical disc, Rock Shock Duke Race 100, Schwalbe King Jim, other stuff...
Bottom Line:I wouldn't change a thing. Except for the Duke Race fork which I'll change over to Fox. I gave Rock Shox a try because Fox couldn't deliver products at the time.

The Manitou 4-way swinger made a noticable difference and was worth the $. It needed some setup time but I like having the extra capability of tuning for my style and terrain. After this setup, the 4-way eliminated the minor amount of bobbing from the fox shock I had on before. If you still encounter noticable bob with the 4-way, you probably haven't properly setup your shock.

Many of the components were purchased from South Mountain Cycles, Phoenix, AZ. They also assembled the bike. I would recommend purchasing from them.

Strengths:Very efficient FSR sus. design, great edge cycle geometry lets you run a 100mm fork. This thing climbs and decends better than any other FS bike that I have ridden! The perfect FR (Fun Riding) bike. The craftsmenship is also top notch.
Weaknesses:Too little rear tire clearance, but this is an xc bike.

Bottom Line:If you want an efficient FS bike with a little more versitality, go see the guys at Over The Edge Sports in Fruita, CO. They redesigned the front end to accept a longer travel fork than the stock racer-x, and give the rider a more up-right riding position.

This bike is an incredible machine. For anyone who is looking for a fun and efficient FS bike, and you want it custom, this is the bike for you.

Weaknesses:None. It has no flaws.
Similar Products Used:Cannondale F3000, Litespeed Hardtail, Mongoose AMP3 rip-off.
Bike Setup:Fox RLC, 100mm, Fox Float R.
Bottom Line:I have riden only one other dual suspension bike, the old Mongoose AMP3. It was a Mac-strut design, and with due respect to the previous reviewer, so is the Racer-X. It is not a four bar because the links don't change the leverage ratio. In any case, I hated the AMP. The rear end was terribly flexible. I could feel it bounceing from side to side. I went back to hardtails. Years later, I rode a friends Hammer Head, which is escentialy a Racer-X w/ geometry tweaked for a 100mm fork. It blew me away. Found a frame on e-bay, built up a pretty pimp bike, and it is the finest bike I have ever ridden. I think it works well with the 100mm Fox fork, although I have heard that some 100mm forks alter the sweet handling due to long axle to crown measurments.

One note: I am not a youngster anymore, and I do not thrill at the prospect of riding my bike off the roofs of buildings, jumping the Grand Canyon, or crashing it into walls. I have been in the hospital once after a bike wreck, and have no desire to return. I do ride hard and fast on some knarly terrain, though, and the Racer-X is plenty stout for me. I havn't riden long travel bikes, but it would be hard to imagine needing more for the riding I do. If you are a rider who lives for 10 foot drops and wants the equivolent of a Big Foot Monster truck for a bike, the Racer-X is not for you. To everyone else, I think it is the best coice you could make.

Purchased At:South Mountain Cycles (SMC)
Strengths:Great handling, minimal pedal induced bobbing, quality seems top notch at this point. Customer service at Titus and SMC has been great.
Weaknesses:Some people mention rear deraileur slap on the back triangle, but I have not had any issues.
Similar Products Used:Switchblade, Epic, Fuel 100. All demo'ed on the same trail. The RX felt the best for my style of riding. The local Blur dealer would not set me up to demo on the dirt, parking lot only. He told me to sit at the trail head and bum a ride from someone. "Dude, I know you don't know me, but can I take your rig for a spin down that hill?"
Bike Setup:TALAS, XT/XTR, CK Rims, SPV Shock
Bottom Line:Schwwweeeetttt. I love this bike. The TALAS and SPV are a great combo on this frame. Yes, there is some bobbing, but any FS bike is going to have it. Titus really seems to have dialed in the 4-bar system. Climbing and descending on this bike is a blast. I have yet to find a RX rider who doesn't love their bike.

If you are going to spend $4000 on a bike, demo one on the types of trails you like to ride. Don't base it on jumping off the curb in the parking lot of your LBS. The good companies, like Titus and SMC, will set you up with a demo bike. Then you can really see if the bike fits your needs. I spent a lot of time considering what fits my style and I'm fricking loving the results.

If you are going to buy a Titus, call South Mountain Cycles in Phoenix, they'll hook you up right.

Strengths:Incredible handling, rides technical uphill, simple FS design, build quality (welds are sweet!)and lateral stiffness.
Weaknesses:The anodized alum. on the Racer X does not seem as robust as other bikes. (Ellsworth or my Titus Drop U road bike!)
Similar Products Used:Similar???? Test road a Santa Cruz Super Heavy, Ellsworth Truth (nice ride), and ID. Previous bike was a Specialized Stumpjumper.
Bike Setup:XTR Cranks (new XTR is great with this bike! Very stiff!), XTR Front D, Sram XO rear and shifters, Paul Motolite brakes and levers, Monkeylite bars, Thompson stem and seat post, King Hubs and headset, Mavic 3.1 rims, Conti UST (with Stans) tires, Fox Forx 80 RLT, and Eggbeaters.
Bottom Line:Believe 95% of the hype. From the reviews that I read, I was expecting NO pedal induced bobbing. I could probably qoute 100 reviews that made this claim. Come on guys this is a FS bike and there will be some BOB! There is a reason why the 04's are coming with the Pro Peddle Platform! A lot less bob then most bikes but it is definately noticable. Setting the sag on the rear suspension also contributed to the bobbing. I am 145 lbs and I could set the rear shock pressure from 130 psi to 160 psi and get the same sag. I found that taking the upper third of this range is a good setting. With a pressure of 150 I get the compromise I am looking for. A little bob on the flat uphills (cannot feel the bob on technical uphills) and the bite taken away on the downhills.
If you get this bike I would recommend a lock out on the front. I have found climbing with the 80 RLT in the lockout position has made a huge difference when climbing. Especially out of the saddle. I set the blow-off threshold in the middle so the lock out actually gives just enough to make the technical up hills just right!

In Conclusion - Expect a little bob when climbing. If you are getting some bob (and your bike is set up correclty) then you are probably on a flat hardpack so you have to expect it! When climbing technical uphill you will appreciate the little give.

Best frame for the $$$$$$$. Truth, Spider, extra 500 - 600 bones? Use this money for a FOX Fork or XTR cranks!

Strengths:Light. Headtube badge. Clean design. Nice machining. Quite stiff. Rides very nice. Shock options. Nimble handling.
Weaknesses:Front triangle isn't disc brake friendly. "We'll ship it next week" from the company...Lockout the shocks why?
Similar Products Used:Hardtail convert!
Bike Setup:'03 XTR with XTR wheels. Fox Talas RLC.
Bottom Line:I'm a long time hardtail rider (Ti Fat Chance) but I was getting tired of working so bloody hard to keep up with all my full sus riding buddies. I've been looking for a f/s for a while now. I liked the Blur, but with its minimal rear tire clearence, no way in wet Hawaii. Didn't want something with gobs of travel for my "first" f/s. My only previous exp. with f/s was on a Specialized f/s, and it just wasn't good. Perhaps I didn't have the whole thing dialed in, but it just didn't work for my riding style. Also, I don't think I was mentally ready for f/s. Too young and dumb?
I ordered this bike for a 24 hour race. It was finished two nights before the race (we'll ship the frame soon...). Rode it during the race and it worked well. My team mates got tired of "This thing rocks!" Adjusted the shocks inbetween laps. Does everything my Fat did, but does it better. Good climber, and loves the single track.
I'm running the fork with about 100mm travel. That's slackened the h/t a bit, so it's not as twitchy as it was.
I've noticed a little flex in the rear end, but I'm going to say its due to the XTR wheelset and its 24 spokes instead of the frame.
Five for the overall rating, four for the value. Would've been a five, except I did get tired of the "we'll ship it Monday". Worth it though.

Bottom Line:This is my second review. I've put close to 2k miles on it now and have a little more to comment on.

I'm still 100% satisfied with my choice. No longer do I lust over the latest and greatest pedal platform hype. The RX has handled every situation I've been in with ease and has taken my riding to the next level.

I changed out the 80mm Fox RLT for a spankin' new TALAS RL. The change has been unbelievable! I now have the versatility the the RLT lacked. Most will say that the 100mm fork with kill the sweet handling of the RX. Don't believe them. Having the advantage of being able to compare 85mm to 100mm to 125mm (and everywhere in between)of front travel with the flick of a knob has given me all the proof I need to go with the longer travel. It actually feels best in 100mm.

Is there anything this bike can't do? I say no.

Weaknesses:None (as long as you don't drop it off of 6-footers.
Similar Products Used:Klein Adept, Trek Fuel, Santa Cruz Blur
Bike Setup:Fox Float 100 RLC, Fox Float R Propedal rear shock, Magura Marta SL discs, Thompson stem and post, RaceFace Next LP cranks and rings, CK hubs w/ Mavic x3.1 rims.
Bottom Line:This bike deserves the hype. It came down to the Blur and the RX - both bikes were incredible, but the RX was a better accelerator and climber. RX just fit better - I am 6'4" 215 lbs. Custom Ti really made the difference, also customized for 100mm fork. Another note - before I purchased this bike, I had several conversations w/ Chris Cocalis - the owner of Titus!! He made himself available to answer all of my questions via telephone and e-mail. First class guy, first class company.

As far as the ride is concerned, cornering, acceleration, climbing are excellent. Decending is almost excellent, but comparing it to the Blur, the SC was a little bit better. I'd rate this bike higher than the Blur, and any of the other stable platform rigs available right now. Add in a stable platform shock like the 5th air or Fox Propedal, and you have the best performing CC/Trail rig available.

Lastly - I don't know what the dude 2 posts down was doing, but this isn't the bike to huck off a 6 footer with!! I have done several 3-4 footers, though. Anything bigger and I grab my Quasi-Moto.

One last thing - if you buy this frame, it would be a good idea to check out Speedgoat. First class crew - those folks know what they are doing.

Strengths:- So far, I would say the biggest "product strength" is just that: the strength.
- Turns like my roadbike.
- Brakes like my motocrosser.
- Very stiff when everything's locked out.
Weaknesses:- My total bike weight, including pedals and bottle cage is 27.5 lbs. Some of that is in the components I've got, and a little is in the frame. Do I wish I had a 23 lb. bike? Of course...
- The R.D. hits the swingarm unless there's a lot of spring tension added. Could Titus design the swingarm in a way that makes a bit more room for the R.D.?
Similar Products Used:I would say this Titus is more similar to my YZF-400 than it is to my 89' Trek 990 hard nose. Those are the only two arguably "similar" products used.
Bike Setup:Fox Float RLC Fork and Rear Shock, XT everything except Deore Disc brakes, Mavic 317 rims, Weyless Other Stuff (I'm cheap.)
Bottom Line:I'm a new MTBer, but I've got decades of experience both road racing and w/motocross. You may want to discard my comments because of the wetness behind my ears.

I'm going to get in a lot of trouble on this bike. I've probably ridden my 14 year-old hard nose Trek an average of 5 times a year since I got it. Going fast through rocks and rough trails has never been a possibility, both because of the lack of suspension and the crummy brakes. All of a sudden I'm floating over what looks like a war zone at warp-7. The bike turns and stops on a DIME, but now I have to make peace with the tires. Correct me if I'm wrong, but there IS NO TIRE that can keep up with this frame/suspension/brake combo.

The rear suspension is magic. Like I said, I'm a total novice to the F.S. mtb world, but I've found that I climb best with the rear active and the front locked out. Is that weird? Another question: Why would ANYONE, EVER buy a hardtail? The R.S. hooks up so much better than my antique Trek that I can't imagine ever using that bike again for anything other than hooking up to a stationary trainer.

I feel more like I'm riding a very well-sorted human-powered motocrosser than a bicycle. This is a good thing.

BTW, I'm 5'10", 32" inseam, 165 lbs. and I got the medium with a 110mm stem. Fits like a glove. I'll write another review in a few months after I've gone through a set of tires or two.

This roadie is getting dirtier by the weekend... :-)

Strengths:What can I say that has not already been said for the past three years. What I really wanted to bring to this forum was a commentary regarding durability and long-term usage. In short, not an issue. This is a frame that I have ridden for several years and it continues to perform without question.
Weaknesses:Ha!
Similar Products Used:Trek Fuel 90, Sugars, Santa Cruz, etc.
Bike Setup:XT/XTR; Mavic 517s; Manitou SX-R (decent fork, lightweight 3.5lbs, cheap)
Bottom Line:So, yeah...this frame tracks beautifully, climbs like a hardtail and performs best at high speeds. But, if you read the rest of the reviews below, you will see that plenty of people will tell you all of this information. What I want to pass along is that this outstanding frame will continue to perform in such a manner several years down the road. So, for those of you unsponsored racers looking for a rig--this may be a legit way to go in terms of cost. For those of you trailriders/sometime racers--again, this frame will deliver years of reliable and outstanding performance. So, despite the potentially high cost, the RX is well worth the money.

Bottom Line:I just happened to be sick with a viral menengitis when I got it and despite my dizziness and my inability to ride like I wanted to, I was able to ride faster through the twisty trees than I ever could on my Specialized FSR XC. The rear suspension is great!!! I don't want to lock it out like I used to. I'm running a Duke but if I had the money, I would get Fox shock because the Duke is the weakest link as far flexiness goes.

I'm still dizzy but am looking forward to putting this bike through it's paces. I'm definately digging this ride!

Price Paid: $3300.00
Purchased At:Can't remember...
Strengths:Accelerates like stink, can climb up just about anything... long climbs at speed, technical climbs, whatever you like. Descends better that I'd expect from an XC specific bike. 2-3 years of hardcore use in a "trailbike" role, holding up very well.

Best of all, it's a real sleeper - no one in OZ has recognised it. I don't have it 'cause it's a big name, I have it 'cause I have more fun, and go faster and harder.
Weaknesses:...none really. I've heard ppl winge about mud clearance, but the past few months I've been riding in extreme conditions (clay, mud, water, sandstone slickrock) - never had a problem.

the v-brakes don't work well under those conditions tho - but that's not Titus's problem.

It's not a bike you want to stand and pedal... but that's not a particularly efficient way to do it anyway...

Also, 4 inches of travel can get a little overwhelmed... but it's not supposed to be a freeride bike.
Bike Setup:XT group set, thompson post, monkeylite bar, marzocci atom 80
Bottom Line:Very happy. Some bits are starting to wear out, but the frame is looking great. I'd absolutely recommend this bike - and not just for racing... it's a great trail bike.

I'm a big guy (6' 4", 230 pounds), the frame doesn't care much about that (but I did select most of the components for strength).

One thing that really amused me was a guy thinking that there was a lot of bob as I was riding. It does move a little, but I can't even notice it, and I beat him up 90% of the climbs... and more importantly, the suspension makes all sorts of climbs possible.

Especially for larger riders, this is the way to go!

So I ordered up the racer X and took my first ride yesterday. It built up to 24.5 lbs but the added weight over the hardtail was NOT noticeable at all. In fact, technical climbs were cleaned much easier and faster than on the hardtail, in addition to twisty rooty singletrack and of course the downhills. Better yet, After a 3 hour ride my butt hurt not a bit. I'll be racing it this weekend and can't wait to try this bike out at full speed.

I'd love to buy a brand new shiny frame like a Blur or something but I cant find a good reason to. Just put on a Fox Fork and found the Holy Grail of front suspension to go with the rear. This bike is so easy to throw around in the woods. Rails corners and rips up the singletrack. If only I had another lung.

It is fast, climbs great, and it is Phenomenal in tight, twisty singletrack. I was also amazed at how this bike hugs the trail. I owned a Santa Cruz Blur prior to purchasing the Titus Racer X 100. The Blur is a great bike but the only area where the Blur out performs the Racer X 100 is in "rock gardens" - the Blur is more plush in the rear. The Titus Racer X 100 surpasses the Blur in climbing, descending, negotiating tight twisty singletrack, and the Racer X hugs the trail much better than the Blur. The Titus Racer X 100 is also lighter than the Blur. I would recommend the Titus Racer X 100 for anyone looking for a bike they can race and take on epic rides.

Bottom Line:When I was first looking, I didn't want to spend as much as I did, but I just fell in love with this frame! It fits me like a glove and is very responsive without feeling "mushy" like a lot of FS bikes I demo'd. Coming from a hardtail, I wanted something like I was used too. I put a Float 100 in the front with a 1" riser bar and 10 degree stem. This is a little tall as I get some front end "lifting" when climbing up a steep section (I'm 5'10" on a medium frame). I may reduce the shock to 80MM (possible w/ a Float)to bring the angle down, but I love the downhill "plush"! A zero degree stem and maybe a flat bar would probably be a better set-up w/ 100MM unless you're strictly a downhiller, but a different frame would probably be in order anyway. Overall, I'm glad I spent the extra $ for this bike. Great work, Titus!

Well after about 4 miles into my first ride on the Racer X it made me wonder why I spent so many rides suffering on my old hardtail. This bike is superior in every aspect. It climbs like a road bike on pavement, and eats up single track like a hobo on a ham sandwich. Everyone who said that this bike doesn't need a lock-out for the rear shock was absolutely correct, It climbs and sprints without any bob, even when doing a standing sprint. This bike eats up roots, rock, and anything else the trail can throw at it. You can tell how much time and effort went into this frame by Titus to get it right, and boy did they! My bike weighs in at 24.4 lbs. but rides like it is much lighter. The customer service at Titus was excellent and they worked with both me and my LBS to set me up just the way I wanted. The bottom line is that if you are looking for the Ferrari of X/C race bikes, this is it.

I will tell you that the guys @ Titus turned me on to hammerhead bikes when I called them with Questions about there product, I tolled them that I did a lot of X-country riding but I didn’t want a flat out race bike. I wanted to still use it to race. They said that the Racer X was a great bike all around but if I wanted a little more travel in the front fork that I should call Charles @ hammerhead bikes, he gave me the www site and I started to look there.
I looked at hammerhead bikes and liked the stuff that I was seeing, so I started the communication process as with any bike purchase, Charles gave me a lot of insight on the bike and some possible set ups (I am very Particular in the stuff I want, and probably became a pane in his ass) we found the right one and started the order.
In hole it was the best choice of bikes for me (I ride Hard and break things this bike can hut you as much as you can it)
It holds the trail like nothing I have ever ridden (Down side sometimes you can go to fast and not know it, and when it tells you it can hurt like hell) think of it as a high-end sports car because that is how she rides.

Bottom Line:This is the best bike I have ever ridden period. It fits like a glove, climbs like a rocket and is easy to flick through twisty sections of singletrack. There is absolultely no pedal induced bobbing. There is a little bit of bob due to weight transfer during pedaling but it's only about a 1/4" at the shock. It takes seated climbs, standing sprints, downhills and corners better than my Superlight. The only advantage I would give the Superlight is standing climbs (which I do very little of). Since there is no pedal induced bobbing the Racer X acts like a hardtail when out of the saddle for climbs or sprints. The Superlight bobbing action has a tendency to drive the rear wheel into the ground on standing climbs which gives a little extra traction. The craftsmanship is top notch. This is the best full suspension bike available for racing. I just rode Bootleg Canyon's awesome trails this weekend and the Racer X was awesome. It handled all of the gnarly technical tight twisty singletrack with ease. It also worked great over the technical exposed lava sections. Since the suspension can't absorb any of the pedalling torque the bike accelerates a lot faster than my Superlight with no hesitation at all.

Strengths:Geometry fantastic for women - seat tube angle makes a big difference in placing weight over the center of the bike, makes a huge difference in traction on very steep climbs. None of the other women's bikes come close to the necessary dimensions like this bike does.

No pedal bob in rear shock, excellent suspension design.
Weaknesses:water bottle cage squeezed under rear shock. Get a longer stem with a rise so you'll feel more stable on steep descents.
Similar Products Used:K2, Bontrager Race-lite, Jamis Dakota, compared to other womens bikes like Juliana
Bike Setup:SRAM component set, Terry seat (there is no other), Easton seatpost is great - has level adjustment! Avid brakes are fantastic. Maxm handlebar. Ordered directly from Titus. Love the pink!
Bottom Line:Best women's mtb bike ever. Other bikes have incorrect geometry, most are much heavier. The specs on the angles & dimensions may appear on paper as only slightly different from other bikes, but are visibly different in person, and the difference when riding is absolutely amazing. Women have their center of mass towards the middle, so they need to have their seatpost pushed forward - Titus has done this, and rearranged all the other angles to match. The difference in traction on steep climbs is amazing, especially in snow, because the weight is better centered over the wheels, no more wheelies.

No noticeable bob in the rear shock, actually feel all the pedal power reaching the wheels. Glad I didn't get the lockout rear shock - I would definitely never use it.

Weight equal to a standard race hardtail!!!

Arrived packaged well for shipping, unpacked & put together quickly, and was set up perfectly, fork was adjusted just right, excellent mechanical work from Titus.

Strengths:Outstanding bike, strong frame, great suspension, tracks well and accelerates like a dream. Handles well in tight single track and jumps up hills with great traction.
Weaknesses:After 8+ months of riding 6 out of 7 days a week I haven't found one!!!
Similar Products Used:Trek Fuel, Rocky Mountain Hardtail, tested Jekyll and Scalpel.
Bike Setup:Full Shimano XTR drivetrain, Easton carbon bars, thompson seat post and stem, Geax tires, Sun bigmouth rims, and Bontrager seat.
Bottom Line:After breaking 5 Trek Fuel 90 frames (I weigh 290#) I decided to get the Racer X custom titanium. Titus set up the bike for my weight and height and I haven't looked back. VERY happy with the bike and very confident it can handle anything I throw at it. My brother talked me into signing up for the 7day/400mile Transrockies race from Fernie BC to Canmore AB Canada. Definitely a challenge for me but I have no doubts the Racer X will be fine. I have been doing some serious training on the bike for the August race and it has been a pleasure to ride. Money well spent; my full cost was just over $4000 loaded, my wife decided she needed one and hers cost $4000. Her bike weighs just over 24# and has been agreat step up for her as well.

Bottom Line:The use of this frame spans a range that goes from XC racing to trailriding. It primes on climbing and handling twisty terrain. Bob is virtually imperceptible, skip the lockout on this one, it does not need it. Naturally with 3.65" of rear travel it wont be nearly as plush as a full blown 5" coil sprung rig but I dont rate its suspension as "harsh" either. It is firm, efficient and active under all situations. I've ridden in different terrain with it, including some technical Norcal stuff (Downieville, Rockville, Tahoe) and it performed very well. It gets you up with ease and does not hold you back going down (unless you are riding a super technical downhill course).

Stiffness on the rear end is impressive (I'm 175 lb), the massive chainstays and the seatstay link keep the rear end dead on track and let the suspension do its job. Suspension works very well under hard braking too.

Handling is exceptional, very well balanced for manuevering in twisty singletrack, climbing and stability when blasting down. You sit and spin and it motors up quickly, if you need to stand up and mash the rear suspension gets you covered too, very minimal bob.

Build quality is as good as it gets. I've installed the hydro brakes myself and the rear mount alignment is dead on, no hassle with disc rotor rubbing due to frame misalignement.

Support from TITUS is everything you should expect. I bought a frame, rode it for a few months and realized it was too big to me. I sent a letter to Chris at Titus explaining my screw up and he offered me the option to buy a new frame at a pro deal, a good relief when the only alternative is pay full retail for another one.

If at this point you think this review way too biased, well, fact is that for the purpose it was designed (shorter travel FS XC) the guys at Titus really nailed it with this frame. It does the job very well.

Now, if you like more to go down than to go up, and like to blast over very technical stuff at higher speeds a full blown, beefier, longer travel (4.5+") traibike frame may be the ticket for you (dont forget the full face :)

Strengths:Light, stiff, responsive... for FS XC, it doesn't get any better than this.

I was absolutely stunded by the crafmanship on this frame. There's nothing else out there that even comes close. Not Santa Cruz, not Intense, not Ellsworth, no one.

Worth every penny.
Weaknesses:I wouldn't exactly describe the ride as "plush". That's the trade off for having an excellent climbing, confidence inspiring, single track shreding machine.
Similar Products Used:Superlight, Stumpjumper, Tracer, Truth, I-drive, Fuel.
Bike Setup:'03 spec'd frame. Fox RLT, AM Classic/Velocity Asym rims, 03 marta, full xtr, flatbar w/ bar ends.
Bottom Line:The bottom line is that this bike rocks! I shopped around for over a year- testing and liking many high-end frames- but the Racer X stole the show. The fit and feel is unmatched. You don't get the squishy/floaty feeling that a lot of FS XC bikes have these days. You can still feel the trail which can only make you a better rider in the end.

I can't imagine a better FS XC frame. Every square inch was well though out and it really shines through in the ride. So far, it's taken everything I can possibly thow at it-- from rock gardens to steep technical decents to impossible climbs. And the best part is that there's absolutely no bob!

I used to think it was the rider, not the bike. Believe you me, when you have a Racer X it's the bike! I finding myself flying through sections that used to bring me to a crawl on my hardtail.

If XC is you cup-o'-tea, for crap's sake quit reading and go out and buy a Racer X. You'll never regret it. And if your going to buy a Titus, then buy it from Charles at Hammerheadbikes.com. You might even consider one of his modifided RX's that will allow you to put a 100mm fork up front without modifying the geometry.

Strengths:Lateral Stiffness, geometry. Climbs amazingly well, no bob when out of saddle climbing.
Weaknesses:Price. No local dealers.
Similar Products Used:Specialized FSR, Gary Fisher Sugar
Bike Setup:Trailbike - Demo from Titus
Bottom Line:This bike rocks, mine should be here in a couple of days. Grey anodized. I can't wait.
This bike made my FSR feel like a limp noodle, an absolute rocket. Even at 28.5 pounds as tested it climbed as well as any hardtail I have tried and soaked up the bumps.
Demo'd the bike for 4 days in Arizona out of South Mountain Cycles (They were awesome), rode Desert Classic, National, two days in Sedona and all the race loops and technical loops out at Fort McDowell. Lots of seat time and some serious singletrack.
If you want a serious race bike that can take a beating then look no further.

Bottom Line:Like.. Wow, man!!
If you like to ride a cross country rocket that absolutely rails corners and climbs like a goat on crack -- please be sure to try this before you buy something else.
There are quite a few really great bikes out there, no doubt... but there is something special about the "X".
I have heard it on good authority that the "X" has THE highest lateral stiffness of ANY bike -- including hardtails..
I thought my first "Honey" was great... but, Titus has upped this frame to another level. It's not really even the same animal.
So, come on -- throw a leg over and take "Honey II" fer a little spin.....

First thing you notice is how much smoother she rides..
Hey -- is this thing locked out? She's climbin' and accelerating like a hardtail -- what?! She doesn't HAVE one?!? Oh, man....
And on that first real hit --NO ramp-up on the rear end...
Here come some nice corners -- and she's easily tracking INSIDE of where her former self did...

When Titus says that the X-Link is doing all this they are not engaging in some marketing hype.
This frame is faster, smoother and laterally stiffer than my '01 was -- cornering is a bit better but every other performance parameter is so much better that the '01 pales by comparison.
A little history.... My '01 was named "Honey" as she was ano gold -- and she was a sweetie. I put 3500 miles on her. Then I ran her into a parking garage -- I felt I killed my best friend.
Wheatridge Cyclery got me an '03 for cost because they felt for me. I thought they were the best shop before so you can imagine how I feel now.
She's another ano gold '"X" -- her name, of course, is
"Honey II".
I hope you enjoyed the ride. Peace to you, and of course, Always -- Happy Trails
