Strengths:    Adjustability, The ability to make an average rider pull of some reasonable stuff without injury

Weaknesses:    Brake fade at times

Bottom Line:
Good bike for cross country and jumps drops etc I havent had any rear derailer probs as others have listed. The clearance for the bottom bracket seems ok may have hit a few times but no damage. All good

Strengths:    -strong, and stiff
-very stable at speed and in the air
-feels great on drops*
-24 inch rear wheel helps for wheelies
-pushes you to ride harder
-good handling on tight trails dispite the big forks
-a huge amount of rear suspension adjustmet
-unique orange colour

Weaknesses:    -the 24inch rear wheel causes problems with clearance for the bits at the rear(derailleur/disc rotor. A full size cage on the xtr derailleur puts it a whole lot closer to danger. i guess thats why they had to used a 6 inch disc rotor at the rear.
-*The rear derailleur hanger is a disgrace on a bike like this("BIG HIT")! It is so weak that even on a 4 foot drop the weight of the chain/derailleur bend the hanger down towards the spokes and will sooner or later snap off. I already replaced my first one only 4 or 5 weeks after i got it and am having to nurse the second one.
-
.It seems like Specialized have fixed these problems on the 04 model.
- Not that its a big deal but what is with that seat post! they go to all that trouble designing and building, all in all a great bike and force you to get a half decent one before you can realy ride it.

Bottom Line:

I guess for me its a love hate relationship with the 24inch rear wheel. But at the end of the day its more of a loving one.
If you are looking at buying a 03 big hit pro its probably
on the second hand market, (since the 04 is out now or will be out very soon) This is a fun freeride bike thats good value, i recommend getting one. after all the problems that i have listed above are very fixable and might have already been fixed by the preson selling it. I would have given an overall rating of five but for the derailleur hanger and seat/seat post.

Strengths:    Very versitle can be hopped easier then most BIG bikes. I've been able to hop 30" logs, No joke.
The 24" rear wheel makes for real easy wheelie drops and manuals. Super stiffe frame, great overall component spec

Weaknesses:    24" rear wheel limits wheel options.

Bottom Line:
This Bike simply rocks, if you do a lot of riding and have a real mix of riding buddies who some are slow you can ride this bike on an XC ride and not get left behind. On short steep technical climbs I've had not problem at all. I can climb this bike up what ever I can on my Santa Cruz SL. On long climb yeah this bike blows but who cares. I have 10 MTB bike in my stable ranging from fullon park/DJ/urban HT s to full on XC race bike, if I could only keep I bike this would be it.
This bike likes to do it all, it jumps great, decends fast
enough to rank in the expert rankings at any DH course and can ride shore like it was designed just for that purpose. and in the right hands can do alot

Strengths:    Tough ass looking steed! Great adjustability; solid parts! Totally huckable!

Weaknesses:    Tyre clearance, but thats about all really. Not really an issue tho; 2.5's fit nice.

Bottom Line:
Great bike, handles massive hits, but you can hop it unlike some heavy bikes!

Strengths:    This is a review of the 2002 International version Big Hit Pro. Great allround freeride bike. Easy to climb uphill considering the weight penalty. 6.3" in the back and 7" Junior T in the front is enough to get through everything I want to jump off of.

Weaknesses:    Should have come stock with a bash guard.

Bottom Line:
I think that the 2002 Big Hit Pro is a way better setup for freeride than the 2003 Big Hit Pro. The extra two inches in the rear totally kills you on the uphill if the shock is not set up correctly. $2700 CAN was an awesome deal for this bike. Nothing even came close to the specs on this bike.

Strengths:    Super Strong.
Tons of travel.
Bullet Proof.
Extremeley Rigid.
A lot of adjustibility in the rear shock.

Weaknesses:    None I dont want to herehow people dont like climbing on it I mean get real it is a free ride bike not a hard tail.

Bottom Line:
This is a great bike if you have a road to shuttle on, a chair lift, or a long time to get to the top of whatever hill you plan to ride down. But when you finally get there you will be very happy that you are on a Big Hit.
There is no better way to get down. The only problem I have found with my setup is that it is slow turning having such a big fork. But that doesnt matter because with 7" you can hit anything without worrying about going over the bars.
Buy it for a nice inexpensive DH Free ride bike.
