Super plush, I've dropped these things off a 12 footer and didn't come close to bottoming them out. One word describes these forks best: indestructable
Weaknesses:

Bottom Line:
A great fork that can handle anything, even after taking years of abuse. I'd definitly recommend this fork to anyone looking to get into downhilling or freeride.

This thing is like two pogo sticks bolted to the front of your bike. I don't believe there is an internal rebound adjustment, and I would like to be able to get the thing dialed in without taking it apart. I weigh about 185 lbs. The fork feels OK with the pre-load cranked up all of the way, but that shouldn't be necessary all of the time. This fork is definitely the worst piece on an otherwise pretty nice bike. I hope to replace it soon. I may try messing with heavier oil and springs first, but I don't really expect this to keep me from having to buy a new fork. I can't recommend this fork to anyone.

Strengths:
Extremely consistant fork, superbly maintenance free, rivals the top pro forks, re-assuring weight, travel and not too heavy at all. the best build quality ive seen.
Weaknesses:
comes with not enough oil, the stock stuff may be a little too thin for some. springs may be too soft for anyone over 11 stone. none of these are real problems though and can be easily rectified.

Bottom Line:
These are by far the best downhill/free-ride forks at the price and they beat many of the newer, higher priced models from other brands and more recent marzocchis, including the new junior t themselves. the 2003s were marzocchis hay-day and they havnt been able to improve on them yet, incredible stiffness (even with the QR version), amazing damping on all terrain, seriously, i cant find any flaws with these. They arrived with just under the right ammount of oil in them which doesnt cause any serious problems, i still havnt changed or added any oil and ive had them for nearly two years, thats how much of a small issue it is. Theres also room for upgrading the internals to "super t" specs. To be compleatly honest, i dont see why some pros dont use these in big events, they are more than capable and it seems strange how boxxers ended up being the standard for racing, boxxers are NOT as plush and ive bottomed out boxxers very easily in the past. the juniors however- not once have they bottomed in the two years of ownership. This kind of infinate plushness and progression have have only been felt (on this scale) with manitou's dorado fork.
Its a shame they dont make these anymore.

a little to soft with stock oil, have to have the preload as stiff as it will go to not bottom out on a twelve foot drop with good transition.(i weigh 135lbs)change the oil and it will work flawlessly.just a minor complaint, nothing that hurts it performance wise, but the lower crown is cryofitted in so you can't adjust that.

Bottom Line:
Same old Marrzocchi quality and durability. With the 170 mm of nice, smooth travel this thing makes big drops on my hard tail alot more forgiving. As I said it is a little to soft but with the preload as high as it will go I did a 30 foot gap with a 12 foot drop without bottoming out. It had a nice transition, but when the going gets rough it might bottom out on the big stuff. I havent been able to go trail riding with it yet, but I think it will be a big change from my old Z.1. I have a northshore track in my backyard, and it is awesome for the drops, but I miss not being able to turn as tight as you can with a single crown. Great Fork and for $350 brand new you can't beat that!

If you want a basic dual crown fork get one, most other brands seem to have seal and bushing problems, Marzocchi has excellent seals and bushings, If you have a choice between a 2003 and 2004, get the 2003 as they have internal rebound and SSVF instead of SSV damping, and the gold stanction tubes are more resistant to scratches.

Being my first dual crown fork the extra travel and control felt heavenly. But as I began pushing my limits It became clear that this fork wasn't intended to take heavy beats. I ride in Chamonix and although there aren't many big hucks or jumps there, the fork began bottoming out off eight plus footers. On the downhill side of things the fork fared pretty well, although the suspension did seem to kick in a little late. the upside of this is when having to pedal uphill, sagging less than say a200mm travel fork. All in all this a great fork for having a laugh with yer mates or pushing the limits on some less extreme routes. on top of this it looks the business and doesn't cost a fortune.

Strengths:
Stiff very stiff! The fork does not flex at all! Extremely plush! Nice when you come down off a hard landing! 20 MM thru axel is awesome much stiffer than a standard skewer! Low speed compression is good for this fork. High speed compression eats up large hits like they are not there! The external Preload adjustment is nice and it works well to adjust the fork to your likings. Drop Dead SEXY look the matte black, Raw stantion, and silver grahics just look GREAT! Best of all it's built by MARZOCCHI! Best Freeride / DH forks around, NO COMPETION!! Extremly Reliable!
Weaknesses:
Stock Oil SUCKS, the level was WAY too low, and the oil was WAY too thin, 7.5 wt HAH! QR-20 quick release axel SUCKS! There is no way to keep it tight! The attachments for the 20 mm thru axel makes me nervous, but it holds a hundred times better than a standard dropout! Matte black looks like the BOMB on my Stinky but Marzocchi PLEASE look to intergated graphics SOON. Since I do not expect them to be intact for very long, Finally NO EXTERNAL REBOUND CONTROL! Marzocchi I love your forks but for a DH / FR fork this is a MUST. I constanly fiddle with my rebound on my Trailbikes fork!

Bottom Line:
**FIRST OFF I AM A FREERIDER WHO DOES A LITTLE DOWNHILL!!!!
With that out of the way this fork ROCKS! It inspires confidence to go BIG! Either it being a 7 to 10 foot drop or just hucking your bike till you ankles hurt! The preload adjustment lets me set the fork as firm or as soft as I like it. But I really wish it had an external rebound adjustment! The stock oil SUCKS chanage it before you ride a good 10wt will make all the difference, without it the fork feels like a pogo stick and is WAY too plush! The stock QR-20 quick realease is TRASH, don't use it go to your LBS and get a REAL thru Axel and leave that QR-20 out! The thing never stays tight and is only a standard skewer inside a 20 mm tube! Get a real one and bolt it on!The low speed compression is nice on the fork but the high speed compression is tough without being able to tune the rebound to the trail condition! This is a feature that Marzocchi needs to put on this fork ASAP! The look of it out of the box is KILLER but please intergrated graphics are awesome and would bring out this forks looks big time! Most of my Buddies have removed most of the stickers since they are shreded! The axel attachment is a little scary since it uses levers instead of bolts, makes me slightly nervous! Marzocchi has a solid reputation for durablitiy! Just change the oil and the seals now and then and their forks will out last your frame!! I know people still running 98 forks and they are still soild! How can you beat that? Who should use this fork? Anyone looking to upgrade their current ride without breaking the bank and looking to go BIG! I don't downhill as often as I would like to but for Freeriding this fork is awesome! It is no comparision to the Shiver DC but what is? For a budget minded person who likes to Freeride and do a little Downhill this is just the ticket!! PEACE!

Quick release isn't quick when i bout it it was used but they buyer before me only rode it 6 times and only did a 3 foot drop. People complain alot about hydropacking/locking over mulitple hits to the fork. The original owner put aluminum valves instead of nylon and no more of that locking ect. Change to 10 w motoul oil instead of stock 7.5. Now is smooth and perfect. DO NOT PUT ALUMINUM VALVES IN IF DO AND GO BIG AND BLOW UP YOUR FORK YOUR WHOLE FORK IS SCREWED IF U KEEP THE NYLON IN AND BLOW IT UP U WONT HAVE TO REPLACE THE WHOLE FORK. I don't go insanely huge so i dont need to worry. Integrated stem is atached to the top crown! Idont like. Not as much reach as most stems.

I've progressed to 6' to 8' drops and pretty big jumps. Like I said, I'm a pretty big guy and after setting them up, I haven't had any problems. They did bottom out and made a harsh sound quite a bit after I swapped out the springs, but after taking them back apart, I noticed I didn't have to top washer in, which seats up against the spring compressor adjuster. This fork is way smooth and plush...typical for Marzocchi and works great on rock and root infested trail at any speed. This fork sucks up any obsticle in the way and will roll fat roots and rocks efortlessly. Drops and hucks will require stiffer springs and possibly heavier oil. When I swapped out the springs for the stiff ones, my bike took drops with more control and it was not as harsh. Before I changed the springs, I would bottom the fork out on 4 and 5 foot drops. Fork is not very adjustable with controls :( I recommend this fork to anyone that weighs less than 180 lbs who does serious freeriding and racing.

I don't know if I got a lemon or if everyone else that raves about this fork doesn't know what a good fork feels like. I hate to be that one raving poster that says the product sucks even though everyone else likes it, but I guess I will. This fork came on my bike and I have had nothing but problems. Basically the damping mechanism in this fork is a hole through a rod and hence you get the performance you expect. The fork feels nice when you cycle it up and down in the shop but when you ride it and hit a sharp bump, there is significant spiking. Basically this means there is a sharp impact delivered to the rider prior to the fork really absorbing the blow. I took the fork apart several dozen times, changing the springs, oil wt, oil level, removing some part Marzocchi recommended to make it smoother but I had no luck with any. Got sick of the way it felt so I bought a SuperT rebound cartridge and that made it feel better but no where near the quality of a Sherman Slider. The fork also makes a clunking sound over stutter bumps which is not rebound setting dependant. I sent it to Marzocchi and they claimed there was nothing wrong. Basicially I wouldn't recommend this fork. I am selling it and getting a Manitou Slider. It has the same basic internals as the Dorado and rides awesome.

Internal Rebound is xxx hard to tune correctly. If not impossible.Really messy havingto go inside every time the rebound needs set.Feels real smooth in the garage but then take it out on the trail and its spiking all over the place. I've tried harder springs and heavier fluid but stll feels really poor. The rebound adjuster is in fact really poor quality. I took it out to check it recently and its just a low tolerance hole raggedly drilled through the damper rod. The instructions and the web site say clock wise to increase rebound damping---WRONG--- its anti-clockwise.. I've really tried with these forks to tune them but with such a variable output its almost impossible to get a setting dialed in.

These are reasonable value for money at the end of the day. If your new to Downhill/free ride they offer great travel and strength at a reasonable price. However, once you start to get a little faster these start to show themselves up for what they are- low budget-. I've tried practically every thing to sort the handling problems of these forks but to no avail. I'm selling them to buy a new set of 888Rs. Hopefully these will offer me the performance that I'm after. Its a fair hike in price but you get what you pay for!

Out of the Box the rebound was to damn fast. I bought this under the assumption that it had an internal rebound adjuster. After talking to Marzocchi Tech support the 04 no longer has one. Drained the stock 7.5 and added 10wt. It felt fine at 1st on my local trail (big rock gardens) but after this weekend on more of a fast DH trail littered with smaller rocks it chattered like hell. Still don't know what to do yet, although changing the oil is easy it still sucks having to do it in order to fine tune. Another option is to upgrade to the Super T cartridge but might as well buy the Super T. All in all it's a good fork but it couldv'e been better with the built in rebound. Marzocchi, update your manuals and tell all your distributors about the missing internal rebound!!!!!

Weaknesses:
the ssv damping used on this and many other marzocchi models sucks ass. It is wonderful for low speed bumps but as soon as you take it downhill or even from a wheelie or 3+ foot drop the thing ramps up hard. It feels like it's bottoming even though my zip tie only gets 5 inches of travel max. I have tried 7.5, 5 and 2.5 weights and 2.5 works well but then tends to bottom at slower speeds and does not have a very progressive feel. 5 isn't bad but still ramps up some. Another semi"fix" is to lower the oil height. This sounds great until the fork dives 4-5 inches before you can feel any compression damping. I also tried xtra stiff springs but this did not help at all. Overall, very poor damping. My old z.1 dropoff had the same damping and the EXACT same problem. I used to think that the z1 was defective, I guess it's a product fault.

Bottom Line:
This fork came on my Expert Big Hit and it totally sucked from day one. First, the manual said to turn the internal rebound CW to increase the damping which is opposite actual. The damping is basically a hole in a rod with a washer and spring that is supposed to give speed sensitivity however it doesn't work. Just landing from a wheelie causes a big shock to be transmitted to the rider. It feels nice if you just push down on the handlebars but once you actually ride, you feel the sub-par damping. I had the fork apart 5-8 times trying to change variables to make it feel better but finally ended up buying a SuperT cartridge for one leg and taking out the speed valve (washer and spring) in the other leg. That made it feel better but now I am sending it back to Marzocchi to try to figure out why it is making a clunking sound. Overall, I am totally not satisfied with the performance and disappointed with the Huffy sophistication internals. I should have sold it from the beginning and bought a Sherman Slider and you should too.

On repeated hits like rock gardens and the like it doesn't feel as smooth as a Super T but in my opinion that's not really worth the extra $300+. BTW, all you need to do is add a little oil to the fork if it bottoms on you. Marzocchis are rediculously easy to tune and work on, just spend a little time with it, get it dialed where you wnat it and the 2 of you will happily grow old together. I've got a friend still launching on his '99 Mr. T so you know that Marzocchis last a long time. If you're serious about freeriding forget the rest, Marzocchi's the best.

03 Stinky Dee-Lux standard
Bottom Line:
Very happy with these forks. The only real gripe I have is a compression spike that happened after 2 or 3 quick hits. It felt like the forks was locking and preventing it from moving up. Hard on the wrists in rock gardens. I solved it by slowing the rebound to about two turns from full slow and slightly heavier oil. I think the fork was pumping oil into the top part of the fork leg and causing hydaulic lock. By slowing the rebound it prevents the oil being pumped to the top of the fork fast enough for this to occur. The forks feel slow but only at slow speed hits and jumps(this is good I think) The forks still move fast around high speed hits so I'm happy. The tyre clearance issue is not so bad (no more than 2.5 inch) but i don't know anyone who actually NEEDS bigger tyres than 2.5 anyway. I'm using Tioga white tigers and they work great. 4 chilli for overall because intially was difficult to tune and internal rebound.

Cheap, look might fine, solid. Should be easier to maintain than rockshox.
Weaknesses:
Tyre clearance, what are they thinking of? 170mm travel and 2.35" max tyre, dumb idea, but if you run something tough at low pressure, like an Intense - it doesn't matter so much, I guess. Could be cool if they had a extension control lock out switch.

Bottom Line:
Not had these long, but so far they hit the spot. Massive difference to the dodgey Psylos (which are ok but keep packing up)Much much faster for dh racing, eats up the bumps and drops like they're not there. With QR20 axle not sure why anybody would bother with the super Ts for an extra £150+, set them up and ride 'em hard. Put the £150 towards a weeks riding in Spain - bring it on!

A great fork for the money, plain and simple. Knocks the boxxer out of the water for the money.
Weaknesses:
this is a great fork for freeriders and downhillers IF you weigh about 150lbs. I, on the other hand tend to drink a bit and weigh about 215lbs. Needless to say, I changed the springs. Change the springs and you're rolling. Also, the qr20 system isn't that durable. Drill out the slot where the qr screw is and drop a 5mm bolt in there. Use a cylinder nut to lock the qr lever in place.

Strengths:
Beefed up to 32mm stanchions, crown is bigger, the whole setup is beau coup stiff man compared to the flimsy 02 JrT, especially if you got those cheesy standard dropouts

Why need an adapter for Hayes 8", integrate it next time boys...Hmmm...wish I got it free? That's foolish.

Bottom Line:
THE BOTTOM LINE is that this is a fork for the kid who wants to go big and not ride his rig to the poorhouse. The fork is so much stiffer than 02, (Iguess the 32mm stanchions/new crown combo? The integrated stem is cool, I guess? But it seems gimmicky. The fork is great, good on the hits and seems bomber enough to last. Never had a Marzocci fail on me, either, so I got that going for me, which is nice. Not a true downhill fork, but only their shiver really is umKay? Great for freeriding, shuttle runs, big DJin' and that type of malarkey, but not brawny enough to blow it down a big piece of vertical (especially with my atrocious playing tendencies, I always hook into the woods.
A good all-around freeride fork, fairly long off of the tee, easy to handle coming into the green, but a little hard to putt with.
I don't think the hard stuff'll come down for a while your worship.. Au Revoir Gofer!!!

Strengths:
The 03 JR. T is far superior to the 02 model. It was finally beefed up to 32 mm stanchions like all dual crowns should be, and marzocchi really improved the fork buy incorporating 20 mm thru axle dropouts, better/easier QR axle, and thicker crowns with an intigrated stem. Its much stronger than the 02
Weaknesses:
Its doesn't have externally adjustable damping. Can't run the largest of tire.
Similar Products Used:
Shiver, Super T, Boxxer, Dirtjumper
Bike Setup:
Ellsworth Joker with the JR.T 03, xt components , hayes brakes, Hand laced Trailpimps on xt rear/ and the free marzocchi front 20mm hub, thompson post, and misc azonic/ raceface. This fork that can take all the big hits and the DH stuff you can dish, this fork is well worth the $$$. It doesn't have the best damping, but its alot less than the next step up Super T. Once it breaks in you'll be stoked. IF you dont like the integrated stem you can still run a standard stem if you dont cut the steer, which is a +, and makes the fork/bike a little more custom.
Bottom Line:
The bottom line is that Marzocchi kicked down everything but the external dampining from the super t, and made the 03 Junior T into the best fork possible for the lowest price point. The 599$ price is reasonable, and the beyondbikes.com guys hooked me up with a free 20mm hub with the purchase even though the 03 forks dont come with a free hub anymore form marzocchi. If you want a budget $ fork that can handle heavy hits, and moderate dh, shuttle use. this is it for the $ theres no where else to go. This fork is seriously stiff, can take repeated 6+foot drops, and improves your ability by inspiring confidence in your riding.
