Strengths: The frame, and the ability to upgrade.
Weaknesses: Tires, saddle, front fork, pedals.
Bottom Line:
This is a good bike for those who are new to riding single track and want to try it out without breaking the bank. I've put about 1500 miles on this bike and began the upgrade path quite early. First things first, get clipless pedals and new tires. Platforms suck and the Jones tires that came stock wear quickly and don't grab except when you don't want them to. My saddle bent after 500 miles and hurt like hell. Plenty of good options out there. I recently put on the Rockshox fork and I might as well be riding a completely different bike. It soaks up hits without bouncing like a pogo stick (thank you RST) and lets you keep a line and carve through corners. Bottom line, this is a decent entry level bike that will make you fall in love with the sport and start buying better components.
Very good bike. Love the disc brakes and the shifting abilities. Someone who is looking for a awesome bike for trails and streets is bound to buy this.

Strengths: I am a younger rider than you probolier are but i like the soxs. They are not to loose like my friend but they are not to tight. Also, the disc brakes are wonderful after the first 2 months.
Weaknesses: the shifters. The don't shift to the 3rd gear on the left when you are going less than 15mph.

Strengths: Great Value
Weaknesses: A little heavy. Wheels and discs bend easily.
Bottom Line:
I have rode 250 miles with only 1 crash and the bike has held up fine so far. A good bike for the money, not the greatest quality but for an average cyclist it is a good bike. A serious mountain biker may want to look a little higher, a good entry level mountain bike.
Strengths: Recently i wrote a review saying that the forks were crap. Well there not. The are greet if you spray a LITTLE WD-40. DONT GET OIL ON THE DISC BRAKES. They will squick for a long time
Strengths: The disc brakes are wonderful for the price. The disc brakes might skweek but it will go away after a short ride. I am a great biker and I think this is one of my best bikes I had. The seat is easily moved and the tires are very thick.
Weaknesses: The shocks. The shocks are very hard and it is hard to loosen them.

Strengths: Bike looks sharp. many people stop to look and ask what it is. But dont get on it to hard or you will loose your chain rings.
Weaknesses: GEARS, had to replace the fornt chain rings twice. Gears atill skip and shift on their own. Have adjusted them numerous times. Rear disks dont hold and the front disks seem to fade.
Bottom Line:
I am new to mtb and bought this bike without demoing any others. I am Not disapointed with it though. It has gotten me up and through some narly stuff. Next bike I will demo before I buy. This bike is great for you money and is good enough to spark your interests and look for bigger and better. It kind of leaves you wating more but cant dish it out without seroius bodily and or bike injuries.
Weaknesses: rear end no traction in wet. brakes fade noticeably about 50% of power and fell lost after a hard brake period. Brake pads £15 for a pair.......no more endos.
Bottom Line:
if u want a bike 2 get u from a-b this is is. if u want a bike and u enjoy riding but dont mind being in the shop all week get the aggressor.

Strengths: The frame has be the best thing about the bike. a good aluminium frame which is used on the trek 4900. The first thing i did was to swap the RST to Rock Shox, and change it to a 9 speed deore set up. The hayes disc brakes are very effective for a very good price.
Weaknesses: RST forks.
Bottom Line:
Very good for someone looking to buy a bike that can be ungraded very easily and to a high spec!

Strengths: good frame, good brakes
Weaknesses: gears, rims, seat, tyres, handlebars
Bottom Line:
It's a good beginners bike, but once you get into it the bike starts falling apart. I bent the handlebars, buckled the back wheel, broke the seat, and wore the tyres out in about 4 months. It's good for the money, but I wouldn't recommend it to anyone who's been riding for a while.

Strengths: Trying to...real hard...sorry,can't think of any.
Weaknesses: Everything. Low end components. I certainly do not recommend this bike, not even for beginners.
Bottom Line:
I have nothing positive to say. This bike actually makes me not want to ride, if that's ever possible! The fork is horrible,I barely get 2 inches of travel. Alivio is crap. Disc brakes are OK, but shimano is better. This bike is dirt. Sorry about the negative, but that's all it is. Unless of course, you enjoy getting ripped off! Trek disapointed me with this one, I guess you get what you pay for. 2 flammin chilis... Naaah,1!
Strengths: for the price this bike is awsome, with the hayes disc's for a good price this bike is now my life for a new rider this bike is great and it has the potential to be upgraded as you get better. the disc's on this bike have about the same breaking power as the v break but gives you more options like feathering and varied breaking power
Weaknesses: i find that the rear derailer skips now and again and my front wont go into 3rd easly
Bottom Line:
this is a great buy for ant one just getting into the sport and can be upgraded easly, the afordable disc was a good idea on treks part. the only problem i found was that the derailer could be upgraded but that is no biggy right!! i live for this bike now ITS AWSOME!!! and thats the bottom line
oh and i payed $650 Canadian so thats about $400 US
