Strengths:    Very nice seat, i put it on my road bike, Handle bars have nice sahpe to them, frame lasted. rode pretty well for the first couple months

Weaknesses:    Pretty mcuh a sucky bike, shifters broke after first week, bent rim in first year of use, messed up rear hub, shcoks got filled with dirt from one muddy day of riding and locked up, replaced front deraleur, replaced chain, nothing seemed to work well. do not buy this bike if you actually plan to ride on any trails or jumps if anyone says this is a good bike look how long they have ridden it for.

Bottom Line:
this bike is not meant for even the intermedeate trail rider. It cant handle anything above a dirt trail for extended use but it was pretty good for the price
but i gotta give props for the nice seat

Strengths:    The breaks are very good, good feel while riding, good price.

Weaknesses:    Seat was uncomfortable and pedals were slippery....had to upgrad to a wider seat and better petals.

Bottom Line:
Good bike after you upgrade the seat and pedals. Make sure to carry around an allen wrench set with ya all the time so your ready to tighten the crank and handle bars. I picked up a allen wrench set that looked like a swiss army knife at a dollar store...it works perfect and ya can carry it in a backpack or your pocket or whatever. It's a good bike for the money you spend on it. It does require you to be prepared to tighten parts though.

Similar Products Used:   Bought a magna 18 speed and then had to take it back and upgrade it to the magna 21 speed...what a couple of pieces of crap....the crank fell off on both of them and I got my leg scratched up...took it back and told them to shove it and got my money back.

Bike Setup:   Was pre assembled at bike shop...he tightened the crank and pedals for me but the next day the handle bars came loose and I had to tighten them.

Strengths:    The frame is pretty strong and the derailur is decent.

Weaknesses:    The Alex rims are low-end and they bend bad after 1 trail of light-use. Crank-set arm is crap.

Bottom Line:
If you are going to use this bike as a beginner and you are willing to upgrade then I would think about getting it. I bent the back rim twice in under a month and i got a new rim for it. I am returning it for sumtin better like a GT. The arm for the crank-set is horrible. I stripped it so bad there wasnt even threads left in it and that means that it really sucks. Derailur is fine for beginners and shifters are great(Shimano Rapid-fire). Frame is good. I recommend that if you are a good mounttain bikerr even if you are a beginner like me but i am good at it dont buy this crap unless you want to spend $100-200 on upgrades when u can get a nice bike. And that Scott guy who said the bike was good is either on drugs or doesnt use it heavy like maybe like a little gravel trail. LOL sounds so fun...not really.

Strengths:    Really nothing stands out on this peice of - er beginer's
only bike. pretty much the only thing that hasn't broken is the frame.I must admit form a $150 bike it takes on the national trail and 5ft. drops admirably.Even though my friend on his Kona Stab Pimo has to wait for me to catch up way too often.

Weaknesses:    Let's see what has broken on my bike so far?I've had to replace The handel bar because I straightened out one side of the riser bar,the bottom half of the headset craked in half in the first month, the wheels never stay true,I bent the seat, the crappy tires are almost bald, and one time I tried to bunnyhop a curb too slow and my back tire hit the curb and my deraileur bent up and rammed itself into my spokes.

Bottom Line:
If your a begginer not looking to go bigger then a 2-3 ft.
drop and nice ,easy ,BORING! trails then you've found
a satisfactory bike, but if your new and want to eventually go big then if you have the chance atleast start off with a
$600 bike.It could keep you from quiting the sport before ypu know what a top of the line bike feels like and just how much fun it can be.

Strengths:    Good Frame. This is a good bike for getting into MTN. Biking. This is why I bought this bike. Good Bike for the price. When I get better at this sport, and save some more money I will get me a new bike with better parts and stronger feel. This is just a good bike for beginners ONLY.

Weaknesses:    This bike "to me" does not feel capable of taking much more then gravel roads and light trails. This bike does not feel like it is worth upgrading later on. The fact that Mongoose now sells bike at Wal-Mart makes me feel a little uncomfortable about the company.

Bottom Line:
Just for beginners. Don't get unless you are looking to learn about MTN Biking or if you don't want to spend to much $$$ at first. Bought this bike over the Internet. Don't does this unless you have looked at the bike in a local bike shop, and the price is better online. My next bike won't be a Mongoose.

Strengths:    Price! This bike is worth every penny and then some.

Weaknesses:    Pedals! Nothing else.

Bottom Line:
If your new to mountain biking you won't be disappionted. I can't imagine a $1000 hardtail being worth $800 more. I bought this bike online only cause I live in a small town in the boonies and have no LBS. If you've only seen this bike in pictures it looks MUCH better in person. After riding a couple of times I found out that the plasic pedals were pretty slippery so I immediately ordered some sun/ringle ZuZu's from Jenson that were onsale cheap and got good reviews. The bike does everything it's supposed to well, brake, shift, climb. I have'nt had any problems as yet. Just be sure to get the right size. I recomend if your anything under 5'8"(like me) and like anything more than street bike clearence get the 16". 18" if your 5'9" or over.

Strengths:    solid!

Weaknesses:    nothing obvious yet , maybe the tires arent the best, but they are holding up OK

Bottom Line:
its WAY nicer than most similar-priced taiwanese bikes. Welding is excellent, finish is good, parts are very decent!

frame is steel, but with cromoly downtube

stainless steel spokes

alloy: seatpost, rims, brakes, brake handles, cranks

shimano gears and brakes work flawlessly !

seat is decent, handlebar grips are excellent!

NICE quick-release hubs front and back, and quick-release seatpost

MOZO USA-made front suspension is excellent, not too stiff

the whole thing is tight, and runs true. I was pleasantly surprised for an ultra-budget bike. Also, it feels pretty light for a steel bike :-)

Note: this may well be a 2000 or 2001 model, as it doesnt have the grip-shift shown on the mongoose web site. I like these ATX shifters more, actually!
