$750.00 | | Purchased At: | Champion Bicycles | | Strengths: | Good group,Canadian bike, looks sharp | | Weaknesses: | Riser bars, lame fender,Hayes mechanical disc brake(?) | | Bike Setup: | Set up for commuting to work 50/50 road and single track,Alco CNC butted flat bar, clipless pedals(6 yrs old),piece of flat plastic as front splash guard under down tube, dual Nighthawk 12v 10w lead acid battery lighting system with remote switches, front brake on right side plus comp, bell, pump, seat bag, full set of tools(Cool Tool, levers, patch kit, pedal wrench),rear fender and flasher | | Bottom Line: | Only rode it once and immediately swapped bars from old bike(Mielle Pegasus 94(9500 miles)). Riser bar and Judy 100C fork make for a radically upright riding position. Take my advise and switch to flat bar. My first experience with disc brakes. Have been commuting to work for 4 days brake might need longer breakin period. Most reviews rave about new Hayes mech disc brake. Not impressed right of the start. Braking was same in wet or dry conditions. Noticeable flex at front derailleur during hard sprints on road. Kalloy suspension seatpost does the job(I weigh 165lbs) Porky weight but then I hang lots of stuff on it to make commute to work safer and reliable. Good value for the money, recommended for any hardtail rider, remember to swap to flat bar,and hope disc lives up to other reviews.

from Windsor, Ontario, Canada Date Reviewed: May 25, 2002 | | Favorite Trail: | Brunet Park | | Duration Product Used: | Tested or demo'ed only | | Strengths: | Good shifting, good drivetrain, good quality components | | Weaknesses: | Ugly Fender, Judy C fork, crappy front cable disc brake, ugly high stem makes for an akward "upwards sitting position" | | Similar Products Used: | Devinci Arrowhead, Devinci Chili Pepper, KHS Alite 500 | | Bike Setup: | Stock | | Bottom Line: | This is a great looking bike with some not - so - appealing components as listed in the weaknesses. The fork is a rigid feeling Judy C, which doesn't ride as smooth as the close - in - value KHS Alite 2000 with a Judy XC. The mechanical disc brake doesn't provide substantial stopping power, and doesn't even compare to a cheaper V brake. This is a very nice looking bike without the useless fender and the Wal Mart stem. This is a good bike with the exception of a few parts, and I will probably get one with some better parts. | Value Rating: Overall Rating: |
