from Leigh on Sea, UKDate Reviewed: April 3, 2010
Strengths: I only bought the frame
I bought the frame and built the bike myself. Recon forks, Mavic wheels, Avid brakes, Race Face controls, XT everything else, It's very light and works well in UK cross country conditions and extreme down hill Sierra Nevada conditions. The simple rear end geometry is very competant and to date maintainance free. I've had bikes with four bar links and you seem to be for ever changing bearings with those
Weaknesses: and works extremely well in all sorts of conditions
The SID rear shock supplied works quite well if you can be arsed to play with the pos and neg air presures for ever but it's impossible to do anything with the damping. I'm really happy with the rest of it so I'm gonna switch to a fox rear shock
Bottom Line: I really like it and will persevere in making it better 'cos to get anything lighter, stiffer and as fast through the technical single track will cost me twice as much. I've always built my own bikes and as a basic chassis to play about with this is one of the best.
Favorite Trail: Sierra Nevada, Spain.
Duration Product Used: 1 Year
Price Paid:
$350.00
Purchased At: Chain Reaction
Similar Products Used: Early Specialized FSR; great bike but got pissed off changing rear suspension bearing twice a year. Early Marin Rift Zone. Marin Enduro.

Strengths: Should start by saying mine's a P2, not a P1. Maybe just a US/Europe difference?
First up the frame, which is excellent for the money. Good strength/weight balance. The front fork is ropey, but almost anything off the shelf below the $3,000 mark tends to be. Rear shock is great for what it is. For the trails, especially the steep stuff, it's lovely. Some good hardware as stock on the UK bike too (LX mostly).Weaknesses: I had Hope Minis fitted from new. V-brakes looked gash! It behaves terribly in sand or lose dirt, like driving a car on ice. You wouldn't want to trust it being jumped either (although the frame would probably cope).Bottom Line: For the money it's been great for me. Have swapped on trails with various friends with "better" bikes, mostly 'Dales (which costs a FORTUNE over here) and been more impressed with the Scott. Happy to reccomend it to people looking for a reasonably-priced first full-suser.
