Strengths: Awesome bike! I built mine from the frame up with trusted components. It can handle anything, feels like there's more rear travel than 125mm. Great bike for the "all-mountain" rider who wants to push the limits before moving onto a full fledged black-daimond or DH bike.
Weaknesses: I guess it is a little heavy for a bike with less than 5" of travel. But I'm a little heavier than you're typical XC rider anyway, so it works well for me.
Bottom Line:
For 2002 this is a great bike. Sure suspension design has grown by leaps and bounds since, but this bike is responsible for pushing the all-mountain envelope. It is a strong, reliable bike that is perfect for punishing back-country riders, or a great alternative for bigger riders who won't mind the extra weight because they know this bike will get them home in one piece. If you need this type of bike, and you can find one at a good price, buy it! you won't be dissappointed.

Strengths: Sweet ass frame. Suspension and frame has handled everything I threw at it, and I do a lot of freeride. Wheelset is nice and solid. Brakes are sweet.
Weaknesses: The bike doesn't have a solid feel to it for drops. It feels light and nimble in the back like you could break it on a 7+ drop WITH tranny. I still do it though... Which has lead to problems in the drivetrain. Also the bike runs tall so make sure to test ride this bike before you get it, very important. Also, I was hoping for a little bit better components.
Bottom Line:
The bottom line here is make sure you know you want this bike before you get it. Now I have rode countless other All Mountain bikes, and I have to say, the RM Edge is the way to go. Just don't do big drops, especially to flat because this bike will feel unstable. Another thing, this bike needs a lot of matinence. Keep the bike clean and she will do the same to you.
I recomend this bike to someone who is a taller rider looking for a XC/Little bit of Freeride bike. It is a little heavier than your average All Mountain on the XC trails, but I like the extra suspension. Enjoy!
Strengths: Good well rounded frame, nice stable bike. Rims are sweet. Great for climbing up hills and cross-country. Desends OKAY. Handles great like all Rocky Mountain's.
Weaknesses: The bike is great, but it didn't have enough plush to it. I felt it was too stiff. Componets could be a little better, but that is not why I bought the bike, I got it for the great frame.
Bottom Line:
This bike is just like a cross-country bike, with a little more suspension. I would have liked to dedicate more weight to more suspension or more of a plush feel to it. You can feel it bottoming out (and I'm not that big) which is a big bummer. You'll end up using this bike as more of a cross-country than you'll think. My advice is to either bump up to a Switch by Rocky Mountain (which got kick-ass reviews) for a more freeride bike or a Element by Rocky Mountain. The frame is great although, I didn't like how they used stickers for the Rocky Mountain logo. Overall, this bike is good for someone who is looking for only a LITTLE more suspension than a cross-country, and not looking for a freeride, otherwise, you are wasting you're money. I do love Rocky Mountain by the way....

Strengths: seems super solid, I like the extra travel. It walks over everything. Its super fun and smooth on the down hill takes, drops super smooth and holds a line well. Very well balanced. climbs well felt very insecure on it at first till i rode over some things that I would normally have to walk. good thing cause its such a project mounting and dismounting the bike
Weaknesses: frame sizes! the 18" is 13 mill smaller than the 19" whats im about 5.10 and I have about an inch of stand over. racked once on a small drop cause is suck! Kind of heavy. slow on the x country. feels really tall!
Bottom Line:
I would recommend this bike for what its is and all around mountain bike, to who ever was willing to ride it. but dont loose it and nail your self. its got a good feel but very tall. know what you are into before you buy this one or else you will be disapointed!

Strengths: Very nice all around bike. Frame is the flawless part to it. Rides smooth and takes everything you throw at it. Brakes are awesome too, as well as suspension/frame.
Weaknesses: Some cheap parts to it. Broke chain right away, seat bolt, swingarm, crank bolts and other components.
Bottom Line:
Really it's not meant for huge drops and hits. I do that stuff and it's fun, but it can cause problems in future. Great though for downhilling occassionally, and it's taken all the bumps and strength I've put into it. I love it alot and it serves my freeriding/crazy, speedy trail riding purpose just fine. Has an unforgettable feel for a cheap, solid bike. Some parts you just may have to upgrade, that's all!
Bike Setup: Stock. I was sent a new chainstay, 2.5 Specialized BigHit tires,

Strengths: just enough slack geometry, flickable and loose under you, solid rear triangle, classic lines. coil over shock. excellent standover height, solid gussets/welds
Weaknesses: not heavy freeride friendly. start doing beefier component swap outs and you'll have a 38 pond bike. shift lines can get hung up on parts of frame after big or hard drops
Bottom Line:
If you want to smoke your xc bros on DH, ride an aggresive heavy duty trail bike that can ride shore/trestles buy this bike w/coilover. If you want to do flat landings or drops over 6 feet dont buy this bike. needs good maintence regime. A canada worthy all mountain, urban, anything ride for those who keep it sane.

Strengths: Strong, confident bike. The workmanship is flawless. Frame geometry and setup is perfect, Shimano disc brakes work great. Climbs anything. Goes over anything. Built for someone who loves full-on, aggressive riding.
Weaknesses: Heavier than average. SRAM Chain lasted 3 days (replaced it with a Shimano HG73 and this is a much more suitable chain for this drivetrain).
Bottom Line:
This is a great bike and I would totally recommend it to someone who wants something more substantial with better craftsmanship than the average. I initially hesitated due to the weight factor, but the extra weight is more than compensated for by the confidence-inspiring ride. The list price is probably too high as far as some of the components are concerned, but because I got such an amazing deal for mine from a dealer who wanted to unload last year's model, I feel I paid the right price ($1619.00 Canadian) so I'm completely happy on all angles. If I had to dig for something to gripe about it's the fact that they put too many stickers on it then clearcoated over them, making it impossible to remove them without damaging the paint. Stickers are for kids. The frame is a work of engineering art, the welds are perfect and I could find no anomolies in the finish and no lags in the attention to detail. The wheels are very well built and true. The RaceFace cranks were a good choice. Like anything, you have to ride it and love it and let that make your final decision. It's not for everyone, but that's one of the things I like about this Edge.
Strengths: Looks great, rides great, very well built, perfect all around bike.
Weaknesses: Rear deraillure (LX), maybe the stock front fork...
Bottom Line:
I love this bike! If you do 7'+ drops don't buy it. Buy an a RM7 (You can't get a porsche for the price of a honda), but if you are like me (And don't have $2400 for a bike) and love technical single track, 2'-4' drops, the occasional trip to the mountian for downhilling fun, this bike is great. I have taken my Edge to several mountains for some downhill rips and it had no trouble. The Magura discs worked great as well as the everything else on the bike. The bike climbs great, and has handled everything that I have thrown at it with flying colors. I would reccommend it in a second.

Strengths: Everything! Setup is awesome. Race Face cranks and bottom bracket. Shimano hydrolic brakes work like a dream. Rims can take a beating and not bend or taco. The MOFO DH tires grip like mad. The fork and rear shock make the ride nice and soft, off of almost any drop.
Weaknesses: None yet.
Bottom Line:
Badass freeride bike. Takes drops and stairs like a champ and keeps on ticking. Climbs hills great. Back end stays stiff enough for the climbs, but is nice and soft on the ride down. Plenty of travel for my likes, both front and back. My next bike will definatly be another Rocky Mountain.
Bike Setup: What it came with. Race Face cranks and bottom bracket. Shimano hydrolic brakes, and Shimano derailleurs. Hell Bent handle bar, Marzoki fork, Fox Vanilla R rear shock. MOFO DH tires.

Strengths: This is a beefy cross country bike or a light duty freeride bike. It is light enough to climb with and strong enough to descend with but THIS BIKE IS NOT FOR DOWNHILLERS like the ones that have giving it 1 or 2 flamin' chilis!
Weaknesses: None that I could find and THIS BIKE IS NOT FOR DOWNHILLERS like the ones that have giving it 1 or 2 flamin' chilis!
Bottom Line:
This is a great bike! All the people who have flamed it were either to cheap to buy the bike they really wanted or just plain bought the wrong bike! Don't complain about the "cheap parts" if you didn't pay the price - the Slayer is only $400cdn more than the Edge. This bike is a beefy cross country bike or a light duty freeride bike and it doesn't do 6 foot drops (I don't think). Also, all the guys that were blowing forks and rear shocks - get the @#%&* bike setup properly! The wrong spring (or air pressure) in a rear shock or fork can't be fixed by changing the compression or rebound rates. THIS BIKE IS NOT FOR DOWNHILLERS like the ones that have giving it 1 or 2 flamin' chilis!
Similar Products Used: Rocky Mountain ETS X-70, Kona "Stinky" Bear (that's what it should have been called), Rocky Mountian Slayer. THIS BIKE IS NOT FOR DOWNHILLERS like the ones that have giving it 1 or 2 flamin' chilis!
Bike Setup: Soft enough for the way down and firm enough for the climb and especially getting the rear shock/fork setup for the appropriate rider weight/riding style. THIS BIKE IS NOT FOR DOWNHILLERS like the ones that have giving it 1 or 2 flamin' chilis!
Strengths: Bike feels good. Fits me well. I have the ability to throw it around quite easily. Easton RAD tubing is a nice touch. Magura Julie brakes are holding up pretty good.
Weaknesses: Most of the componentry is quite bad. Deore cranks, Low level bomber is starting to creak and make all sorts of noises. Im only 130 and i bottom out all the time. Rear end is VERY squishy accelarating and very reactive to pedal input..not good.
Bottom Line:
This bike is OK. It is not great and it is not bad. Meerely OK. I bought it because it was all that i could afford after my fully decked out GT zaskar was crushed by a tree. I figured, why not give full susp a try? So I had my mind set on the Rocky switch, which is an amazing bike...but seeing that i was a little short on cash and didnt want to wait to ride i bought a clearance 2001 edge. The bike is fun to ride most of the time, but I feel like its holding me back. I do urban riding and it bottoms out all the time, weather im gapping stairs or coming off a mere 4 food drop to a flat. Enough said. The bike is allright. If i had to do it again i would have bought another bike. But for the time being it serves it purpouse. If I did not buy it i would have been out of riding for the rest of the season... Next season maybe a switch of a bullit... oh well.

Strengths: the front junction of the frame, where the head tube meets the downtube...hmm...ya that about covers it.
Weaknesses: hmm lets see...i have broken a set of handlebars, 2 bolts, (i just broke one today after getting bike back frum shop yesterday), im on my 3rd rear derailer, the fork is FLEXY...not enuf travel on the back...
Bottom Line:
Man this bike was the biggest mistake i have ever bought. i Might have done better if i hadn't bought a shop demo, but it seems i break this bike wayyyyy too much. I'd recommend it for the rider just starting to get into freeriding. i have it working for a week (usually less) and in the shop for a week. this bike is fun when its working but i'd give it a pass, especially if u buy it as a demo.

Strengths: sweet ascender, stiff rear while going up, magura discs are awesome, marzocchi fork is plush, best on single tracks, fun freeride bike
Weaknesses: not made for downhill, not enough R. suspension, really pricey frame
Bottom Line:
selling it to my dad, it's more useful to him, and getting a SC Bullit, you'll love the bike if you like going uphill. Not a real great value when it comes to componets, Rocky Mountain has great customer service.
Strengths: -disc breaks work very well -rims are cheap and strong
Weaknesses: RMB Stock $hit
Bottom Line:
This is a killer mtn bike... it does everything you make it do and climbs like a goat. The Jr T's are something I would really recommend because they soak up everything in it's path..
