Strengths: The 5th element. Smooth on the down hills and no bob on the up hills. The welds are perfect, like a roll of nickles.Weaknesses: none so farBottom Line: I have been riding and racing the YBB for 3 years now. I needed a full suspension bike so why not stick with perfection. This bike is so fun to ride I dream about it. :) Don't mess around with other bikes that are just trying to be a Moots, go to the source. You won't regret it.......

Strengths: great handling, smooth ride, flawless constructionWeaknesses: none with the 5th elementBottom Line: My bike is the full aluminum which started with a fox shock that was changed to a 5th element. The 5th element stopped the bob but kept the smooth ride. The aluminum
frame is competively priced with other quality frames.
The build quality is definitely a step above expensive
frames from the large manufacturers.By using Python light
tubed tires with Stans notubes but no tubes, I saved over 1 lb. of rotational weight, have had no flats and they don't loose air. I am faster on this bike then my Ti hardtail.

Strengths: HANDLING, HANDLING, HANDLING, FLAWLESS WELDS, 5TH ELEMENT REAR SHOCK, LITTLE TO NONE LATERAL FLEX IN THE REAR TRIANGLE, OVERALL THE QUALITY OF THIS BIKE IS EXCEPTIONALWeaknesses: NONE SO FAR...Bottom Line: THIS IS A REVIEW OF A 2004 SMOOTHIE BLEND. I FEEL FORTUNATE TO OWN A BIKE THIS NICE! I DROPPED A SH*T LOAD OF CASH ON THIS BABY BUT WHAT PRICE DO YOU PUT ON FUN?!! 1ST IMPRESSION WAS THAT THIS WAS CLEARLY ONE OF THE MOST IMPRESSIVE FRAMESETS THAT I EVER HAD MY HANDS ON. THE THOUGHT THAT I COULDN'T GET OUT OF MY HEAD IS THAT I HOPE IT RIDES AS GOOD AS IT LOOKS. I WAS ABLE TO TEST RIDE THE FULL TI MODEL PRIOR TO PURCHASING AND WAS IMMEDIATELY IMPRESSED BY THE FABLED MOOTS HANDLING...THIS IS NOT A MYTH! I OPTED FOR THE BLEND DUE TO THE INCREASED STIFFNESS THAT COMES WITH AN ALUMINUM REAR TRIANGLE, NOT TOO MENTION THAT IT'S ABOUT 5 C-NOTES CHEAPER. WHERE WAS I...OHH YEAH THE RIDE...TO GET RIGHT TO THE POINT, IT RIDES BETTER THAN IT LOOKS!
AS YOU'VE PROBABLY GUESSED, I'M FROM THE SCHOOL OF STEEL IS REAL. I'VE BEEN A FULL SUSPENSION HOLD OUT UNTIL NOW. I'VE RIDEN OTHER F/S BIKES BUT COULDN'T BRING MYSELF TO OWN ONE DUE TO THE FUNDAMENTAL ISSUE WITH F/S OF LOST PEDALING EFFICIENCY DUE TO SUSPENSION BOBBING. THIS BIKE HAS MADE ME A BELIEVER! I DON'T SEE THE IF GETTING TOO MUCH TRAIL TIME ANY TIME IN THE NEAR FUTURE. THE COMBINATION OF THIS FRAME SET WITH THE FOX FORK PROVIDES THE BEST HANDLING BIKE I'VE EVER RIDDEN...PERIOD!
I'VE ONLY GOT ABOUT 50-60 MILES ON IT SO IT'S STILL IN BREAK-IN STAGE AND I'M STILL DABBLING WITH AIR PRESSURE IN THE 5TH ELEMENT. THE BIKE RIDES FANTASTICALLY NOW, I CAN'T IMAGINE WHAT IT WILL BE LIKE ONCE I GET IT FULLY DIALED IN. I'LL UPDATE ONCE I GET SOME MORE MILES ON IT.
TO SUM IT UP, SO FAR THIS BIKE HAS BEEN MONEY WELL SPENT.

Strengths: Craftmanship is unmatched. The frame looks like a work of art. Full ball bearing pivots. Almost no maintenance.Weaknesses: Bobs more than it should. Maybe out of the price range of some.Bottom Line: The bike handles incredibly well, probably as good or better than any other bike I've ridden. Plus, after a season of riding, the bike still looks like new and will look new for many more years to come. Full suspension disc brake equiped under 25 pounds is not too bad.
Now for the bad news. It bobs too much. If the frame came with a shock such as the new 5th element air that canceled out the bobbing, this bike would be perfect. This frame/bike costs way too much for the amount of bobbing that the rider has to deal with. yeah, the shock has a lockout but who wants to mess with that when there are other suspension designs out there that don't need them. And no, a hardtail is not and option.
The good news is that Moots is working on the bobbing problems with the help of a new shock. But until then, I can only give 3 flamin' chilis.

Strengths: I'm a 57 year old aggressive rider that owned a YBB but wanted the comfort of more travel. I traded up to the Smoothie and am I happy! My first riding experience with it was in Sedona then back to Lynn Woods for the hardcore technical stuff. The bike is nimble, fast and has great geometry for my build. I made the mistake of reading a bad review in one of the mt. bike mags before I had the bike built. It talked about old technology. This bike has improved my riding immensely. It has very precise steering and great handling. Beautiful welds.Weaknesses: cost--altho I got a great dealBottom Line: If you got the dough and want a XC bike that will last, this is the one.
