I love my truth, infact I have debated on getting the Ellsworth lettering as a tattoo! I have riden some of my buddies bikes ranging from every aspect of FS design. By far, the Truth has it and even more then you expect. I bought my Truth in 2001 and rode many miles on it and still dream about them, but this past June in 2006 my frame snapped on the seat tube right below the suspension weld. I FREAKED. I thought my summer of riden was over, not to mention my next couple of years just do to my budget. I called Ellsworth directly and not only did I get friendly customer service, but I truely felt that they were sad for me. I got a new frame, even though it was refurbished, within 5 weeks of my first call, and I was on the trail. Ellsworth did offer me other opitions but again, I was short on funds, to either upgrade or get a new Truth for a small cost. So the bike rides like nothing else on the trail and with customer service from people who come across like they ride, what else do you want. I love my bike, and I'm proud that I ride an Ellsworth. If only my wife will let me get that Tattoo

Bottom Line:
The ride is brilliant, really fast and responsive, it inspires confidence and makes you ride better from the moment you get on it. So what can be said about this bike that is not already out there? I mostly do cross country singletrack from moderate to double diamonds. I used to ride hardtails before getting a Marin Attack Trail which I liked as my first full suspension. The Truth rides like a hardtail until you hit terrain then it sucks it up like a plush full suspension and thus gives you the speed and agility of a hardtail with the comfort of a full sus. I kind of expected this but what I did not expect was the climbing performance which simply has to be experienced. I when I switched bikes I was trying everything I could to get my old bike up some particularly tough climbs, with roots rocks etc. It was quite the balancing act to keep the front end down and stop the rear end from breaking free at critical times. From the first hill on the Truth I was amazed. It feels like it’s glued down and I can torque the back end to get up without it breaking free. The weight of the bike is very good, full (XTR) build is 25 pounds. On weight, I wouldn’t believe a word in catalogs, if you want to know weight, go to your bike store, take a test ride then weight the bike you rode. Bike heads will always be looking for better bike/build either in rumor or reality. I wanted to get an outstanding frame/build and put my time and effort into riding instead of upgrades etc. The bike is pricey, so I wondered if it would deliver the goods, or if I would have regrets. The answer, I could not be happier than with my 2005 Truth. Also, Gary at Rocky Point Cycle, did a fantastic job on the build. I encourage everyone to support our local bike store guys!

I was pretty upset to find out that Ellsworth does not back up the product if you are not the original owner. So because the weld was not high enough when they put disc brake mounts on the 02 for the first time, I get to pay for their mess up. It is a known problem, (they are sending me the re-designed replacement) but now I am out of a ride for two weeks and $300. Be careful with disc brakes on the 02!

I still have not had a single thing go wrong with the frame. The bike handles like a dream. It climbs really well and bombs the hills with plush feeling suspension. Braking is never compromised by the suspension so i can stop on a dime. Switchbacks are no problem, as the Truth smoothly flows through them. The bike is also very light for a trail bike. Everything about the frame is bomber(2001 model with bearings instead of bushings). Great shot-peen finish, sexy welds, CNC swing-arm is beautiful and functional, bearings are tight - even after three years of abuse and travel is smooth and predictible. Overall...it is tough to beat.

After three years of riding my Truth, I can safely say there is no better 4" travel bike out there; I wouldn't trade it for any other ride. The geometry is agressive and comfortable, it is very light-weight and it climbs like a scared goat. Additionally it handles like a dream - when riding.... you just think about where you want to go and it effortlessly puts you there. In my bevy of bikes including: Klein, Kestrel, Gary Fisher, Giant, it is at the top of them all, performance and quality of materials & craftsmanship.
The Truth is the ultimate 4" cross-country full suspension ride. If you are looking for something more dual purpose, you might consider the ID - which has more travel while maintaining many of the characteristics of the Truth.

Bike Setup:
ROMIC; Manitou Black 80/100; XT; Thompson, Avid Mech Disc
Bottom Line:
I've put about a 1000 off road miles on my Truth this summer; time for a report. The first thing that must be said is that my bike has "character" and was made in the USA. It is all about the ride of this bike- my third F/S bike and probably my last. My second F/S bike was an ISIS SL- awesome bike but decided this year to upgrade. For the record, my first F/S bike was a 1998 Specialized FSR. The Truth is the best of the 3 but doesn't beat the ISIS by much. The FSR is a distant 3rd.
When I bought the first Ellsworth a couple of years ago it was because I didn't want another frame welded by a 12 year old in a Taiwan sweat shop (read FSR). I wanted and got a bike with character...no different with the Truth.
The terrain I ride is mixed mud, rocks and roots (welcome to New England). This Truth is efficient, great handling and maintenance free. The climbing performance is excellent. This is particularly true in steep technical situations due to the precise handling and traction afforded by the suspension. Descending ability is awesome; get off the brakes and hang on.
I am heavy at 190 lbs and run the ROMIC. It is essentially bob free; and is super plush with good small bump responsiveness, no bottoming, and good rebound contol.
The bike is built up as a solid trailbike (guessing 28 lbs) and I have had no problems. The frame is light but not stupid light and has held up well to the terrain listed above and my fat a**. Did I mention mud earlier? Other than maintaining the drivetrain and keeping things tight- NO MAINTENANCE.
It costs a lot of dough but if you ride alot in demanding conditions it is worth every penny.

After reading all the reviews of bikes on this website, I decided to opt for the Truth. I don't know that I've ever been so happy with a purchase.
About the bike: It rides like a dream. My brother and I both bought bikes at the same time. He purchased a '03 Specialized M4 with all the options. I got the Truth w/ all options. After a couple of rides, we switched. He immediately said "Wow - this is nice. It rides like a dream". Meanwhile, I was feeling sorry for him because his bike felt brittle and cheap. All I could think about is how badly I wanted my bike back.
I would definately recommend the Truth to anyone. Ellsworth seems to found the right combination of strength/comfort/functionality.

Bottom Line:
Bought this bike in jan of 2000 (I think) -- first laser etch production year. I've seen the 2003 version--virtually identical to 2000. This bike changed the way I rode trails. Smooth fs design allows one to compress and actually accelerate out of lips, dips and corners. Used to buy a new bike every year--I've only greased the bearings once on this bike. Smooth FS especially with quality brakes enables later braking and tighter lines. Not sure if this is the absolute best race bike around, because ICT or not, you're going to suffer just a little bit more going up smooth climbs. But as soon as things head down, get tight, or get rough I have more fun smoothing it. I've heard a lotta hype about the new epic, and I'm looking forward to riding one. From previous experience, the specialized top tube lengths seem too short to really take advantage of the funtastic benefits of x-country FS (I'm 5' 10.5" and run a 120mm thomson with 1.5" riser bar). Waiting for the new wave of stable platform shocks to establish their durability record before I try one on my rig.

After speaking with the Ells reps before the race to get the skinny on this "instant center tracking" and the Romic shock I was interested in judging for myself what the hype was on this tech and why Ells was touting they were the ultimate endurance bike set-up (Ells is offical bike of 24hr of Adren.) ELLSWORTH is the REAL DEAL! I was part of a 2 man team that weekend and after my 8th lap, I gave it a go and boy did the TRUTH shine. Fast and responsive decender and incredibly efficient climber with no rear wheel slippage on the tough single track climbs at Castaic. I was dead tired but re-vitalized on the TRUTH! I was bummed I had to give her back to the reps after 2 laps. Romic is the rear shock of choice with the ti springs in 2004. Can't wait to demo again in 3 weeks at Laguna Seca 24hr! This will be my next bike very soon! Thanks to Ells reps for terrific sponsorship of 24hr racing, knowledge, and customer service! (definitely check them out at the events)

Very responsive to tight switchbacks just like my 23lb Cannondale hardtail. I'm much faster through rock gardens, stairs, technical decents, most everything except up hills as expected. My overall speed increase in most technical areas more than makes up for my slight decrease in uphill prowess. I used to think twice about long stair decents etc.. now I just point the wheel, pick a nice line and let it hang, not an exageration.
Since the bike is new I'm having some technical set up issues that I'm still resolving, but i guess it's not fault of the frame itself. - need to dial in gearing - some knocking in either headset or fork, can't figure it out. brought it into the shop several times, it comes and goes on its own.. hmmm.
Any regrets.... not one.. I just expected it to be a little lighter after reading so many "light" reviews. I put it on the scale and it comes in over 28lbs'!!! Large size frame with some pretty light components as noted above.

The gray finish makes for about the best looking bike i have ever seen (but i am a little biased). If you have to coin to drop, I would definetly recommend this frame. It pedals like a hardtail and rides like a lazy-boy. The geometry is perfect for the way I ride with 100 mm Atom Race fork. It sticks in the corners well and bombs down technical singletrack way faster than my Trek. I was a die-hard hardtail guy before I got this bike, and now i am converted. I've been riding hardtails since the late eighties. My last one was a Trek 8500, and I loved it. The Truth has exceeded my expectations! I'm in my late 40's and ride on weekends. My favorite ride is through river beds over baby heads. At the end of the day, I'm dead. I've been amazed at how I feel after my rides on the Truth. It's responsive and plush. It climbs like a dream and I've experienced no bobbing. It took me a long time to justify the cost associated with this product, I'm sorry I didn't do it sooner. My Canecreek blew out after my first ride and Beyond Bikes replaced it immediatley with a Fox until the replacement comes in, no questions asked. They have been excellent to work with and are extremely customer oriented. I'd recommend them!

Strengths:
Finish quality, light weight, 4" plush travel. single track manuverbility, looks cool so that I can show off. Go whine if you just can't take it.
Weaknesses:
My personal taste prefer a bit more slack on head tube angle. price is steep if compare to others. But you did get more than others. If you buy from place that it can save you $25 for their "GREAT SERVICE" then don't whine for the price here.
Similar Products Used:

Bike Setup:
2003 XTR drive train, King, Thompsons, Monkey, B4 SL, Hayes SuperLite, Mosquito air with Stan kit, sid team, Romic with Cloud 9 extra ordered, control tech bolt-on skewer ... You get the picture.
Bottom Line:
After some time of HT ride, the harsh ride on the rough trail was killing my kidney and is loosing control simply because the tail just not on the ground. After filter out by weight factor I started with King Kikapu and found very little room for negotiation. When compare it to Truth, the price is not far after everything considered. So we visit LBS for a test ride on King and Truth. Although KiKapu is cheaper but feel I wouldn't want to pay that price for what it offered.
After some calculation and planing, we order my brother's Truth first. The frame show stunning finish when it got out of the box. The finish and workmanship are first class and is better than any frame I checked during the shopping. Now we can thoroughly examine and test ride it on all the trial we rode and guess what. All the sudden, we found how bad his front fork is.(he transplant the fork from his $700 HT with disk brake ...) What a match! Now he is thinking....
Of course mine arrived after few weeks. I set it up with weight weenie parts. Put the Romic in max compress damping, it ride just like HT on long climb but the Truth perform way better than my HT on technical climb with root, rock, grove etc. The sid team was on HT a while before put on the Truth. The sid perform smoother and the front tire feel stickier on Truth.
Both Cloud 9 and Romic are excellent performer and are very close except the Romic has a little bit edge on low speed damping. But the Cloud9's semi lockout bottom did help and is very convenient and light. It's good to have both of them.
Climbing is main ride we did and we only go down from where we can climb up to. Wide open fire road, steep twisting single track, miles of hard boring climb, rain or shine. No flat, jump, or down hill riding. We know we going to enjoy the ride even better now.
I thought the Kent's comment down below was a bit too exagerate. I was joking with my brother on my HT, "did you see the dirt under me ?" Kent may be exagerate but the fact is 99% close. Use my words, I had a feeling that the read end disappeared. It really not much to said about rear end now, the 4" travel simply soak up most of the bumps and the rear tire stick to the ground as it should. It take me few rides to get used to the fact and then start to take the of it.
There is a lot of FS bikes out there these day and people can get a much cheaper one which perform close to those expensive one. It is your choice to plunge down the money first and you better know what you are doing. When people trash their bikes after few years I know my Truth will still stand out. Think about it, after 3 or 4 year, how much you can sell for a used abc brand FS bike. I have one and I know. Got to go ride now and will update the post after some time.

Strengths:
Price - I have bought cars that cost less, but when the frame arrives you will then see that this one frame would be better in 5 years than if you purchased 2-3 inferor frames. "YOU GET WHAT YOU PAY FOR" - Taking your time will help you prevail in the price paid department. I got a great deal on this one......(No one was able to beat the price I paid - NO ONE) Anodized black color will not chip - only scratch. Billet heat treated rear triangle - Wonderful shine !! Frame, and swingarm support. Laser etching is perfect. 3 replacable rear derauiller drop outs. Sealed pivot bushings should last forever. Weight, Wieght, Weight, Weight,
Did I mention weight? (Large frame, w/Cane Creed AD12 is 5lbs. 10oz.) - I will repost the weight when my Romic arrives.
Weaknesses:
Top Tube reminds me of cardboard. I believe it could dent that easily. When FedEx arrived at my door, I picked up the box and had thought someone had already taken the frame out. This is a very light frame and due to that; it does seem "fragile". Upon further inspection of the tube thickness though, it may be better that I am imagining.

This will be the first time I have sat on a fully suspended bike. I have felt only one Turner02 that a friend rides. It felt like a cadillac, and I decided to go one better!
Bike Setup:
None Yet - I only own a new 2002 Large Black Truth Frame.
I need a little help in this dept. I need some of the specs that are unavaliable at Ellsworh.com. If you ride a Truth, and know all of the specs of this wonderful bike please e-mail me. I am about to begin the building process.
Any recommendations would also be valuable......
I will re-post as I build. I am looking for about a 24lb Full Suspension build. That is *AMAZING*
Bottom Line:
A very sick frame. I only have the frame to look at, but it is so beautiful that it is almost good enough. Who wants to ride a piece of artwork like this? The welds are perfect, and the anodizing process went like a charm. The finish on this bike is a major reason I purchased this bike. The rear triangle is Billet Heat Treated Aluminum, and shines like the rim of a car. I have no doubt this frame will still be VERY beautiful in 5-6 years. No more paint chipping !!
The bushings are "SEALED" where the 4 pivot points are, that means they should last for years. With little, to NO maintence.
The frame came with the Cane Creek AD12, but I have a Romic on the way. I would recommed the Romic, and I have not ridden the bike yet. I am an Downtown Urban rider, and like the sidewalks, and hip of corners to fly off of. I do large drops, and like to jump over nuns when given the chance. The Romic can handle these feats better than any air shock.
I will be re-posting soon to inform of weight differences with the Romic installed. I will also re-post when I am completed with the build. I believe I have purchased a WONDERFUL BIKE.

Bottom Line:
I've ridden a hard tail my whole life and did not want a FS bike that would bob, My initial thought was to get the SantaCruz blur because of the VPP suspension, but because Santacruz is slow and seem to have a problem with their new products coming out without errors, I went with the Truth. I have ridden quite a bit and have not regretted the choice I made once, the bike is the most plush XC bike I have ridden. Climbs with no bob as long as you stay in the saddle, it will bob if your in a standing sprint, but then again what bike doesn't, I have crashed a few times and the frame is still scratchless. It rides over bumps like a couch on wheels and manuevers like a Ferrari. I will never buy a painted frame or a mass production bike again. If you are hard core and want a bike that performs and can take a lick, buy the truth, but if you are a whinning, sniffiling, once a month rider that races his sister, buy a specialized. XTR rapid rise on Speed Goat replaceable dropout supports the larger XTR cassette. Romic Coil is extremely adjustable when combined with Fox Forx Float RLC 100 - I can have cushy or very tight ride depending on adjustment. Wheels/hubs are Mavic CrossLinks and tires/tubes are Continental Escape Protection (back) and Explorer Pro (front). Brakes are XT V.
Bottom Line:
This bike totally rocks! It feels very fast as it glides over the earth's crust. I can look down and there it is - the crust - but I don't feel it! It's blowing my mind! I can adjust the suspension rebound and compression damping so that it actually feels like its propelling me slightly forward each time I hit a bump or swell in the track. The Romic rear coil shock is amazing in terms of adjustablilty when paired with this frame - rear coils are recommended with an 'active' design. The Fox RLC air shock is very rigid (32mm tubes) and provides for pinpoint steering accuracy. Lately, I can be seen almost every day riding the gray Truth at CA State Park Wilder Ranch - an 8 mile fairly flat loop next to the ocean with extensive hilly trails in the Santa Cruz hills on the other side of the old barn. I like this bike alot. The finish is spectacular. Over the jekyll, I've noticed a significant difference in the way the front end handles. This can be due to the different front end suspension, but this bike is a much lighter, stiffer bike. I think a reviewer below said it made him a better rider, I believe thats true in my case. I noticed better climbing with the truth than the jekyll. The jekyll for me always had a front end that was difficult to hold a technical line at any geometery. I put thew truth together and the cable routing was a bit of a challenge but not impossible. I think there is a lot of great higher end bikes out there, ie. turner, titus , santa cruz etc. You have to ask yourself what kind of riding are you doing and what will make you happy. The bottom line is for me, I am a better technical rider, a better climber, and a happier mtb'er after knowing the truth.....

hell yes. despite some issues with shimano's pointless 9 sp. drivetrain, this is a sweet machine! I am 200 lbs. and was riding a air shock = frame broke! Ellsworth was great and quick with warranty, advised to go to a romic shock - GOOD idea! My real beef is with the industry in general, and it's obsession with weight, if you tip the scale at over 180 pounds, there just is not a whole lot out there for the (heavy) XC rider not wanting to drag around an anchor freeride bike! My freinds and I are not really "big hit" type of people, but we have managed to destroy GT's, Trek's, Ellsworth's, Specialized's, etc... is there a solution, or will we just have to continue to bit and piece our rides together using a mixture of XC and FR gear?
Considering all that, I still have nothing but great things to say about the Truth, it will set you free!

This bike just loves to climb (how can a FS climb like this??) and allows me to keep my butt firmly rooted in the saddle. The Cane Creek Cloud Nine just glides over bumps and permits me to pedal through courderoy turns with no problem. Sprinting is easy, and now I have so much more control on downhills. The bike will most definately be used to race with as well. Do yourself a favor and at least demo one of these babies...I bet you'll dream about it until you finally plunk down the cash to buy it.

Bottom Line:
It is difficult to sprout enough superlatives about this product. It climbs like a startled milkmaid running from Dracula in the Alps! Its performance on single track is razor sharp. It gives you additional confidence when decending. Also impressive is the no-nonsense behaviour of the rear suspension, you totally forget it's there! Rather than relying on lockouts et al, Ellsworth has wisely opted for the ICT system which essentially isolates the suspension from the pedalling effort. The end result is a rear suspension that is always active and smooth while not robbing you of any forward momentum. It is not an exaggeration to say that the bike provides a clear performance advantage to any rider (particularly me!) It is a very expensive product and so this would want to be the case but in this world there is no such thing as a free lunch and if you want performance like this the bucks you will have to pay. I must also mention the level of customer service I have received from Ellsworth. It has been excellent. I recently had to order a new rear derallieur hanger (thanks XTR) and they were very helpful, replying to my E-mails overnight and making me very happy. At the end of the day if you are looking to spend a large amount of money on an XC bike you should place the Truth at the very top of the list. It is a supremely able bike which does not impress with bells and whistles, but simply with it's performance. Even considering the cost I feel that it deserves top marks for both performance and cost...

All you who dont belive me that their customer service is top notch, buy a trek or whatever and see how many follow up calls or invitations to moab rides you get. So first off its a great company. Second, the bike is a cross country dream. I started off riding with a an 80mm front shock to get a stiffer and more controlled feel out of the bike then moved to a 100mm travel and the frame loves both rides. With low travel and fast rebound it is a stiff but forgiving racer. The rear end plants itself on the ground after every bump to ensure no loss of speed. The frame handles like a hardtial and absorbes tough terrian at the same time. Setup for raceing the bike wieghed in around 24 lbs. With more travel up front it becomes a super plush border line freeride bike. I can take 10-12 foot drops with the bike and although it doesn't exactly love it, it will withstand the abuse while takeing that hard neck snapping edge off.

I ride all over the East Coast, and am out every weekend as well as a couple of days a week. Although I don't care to race, I like a challenging ride with hills and obstacles. This bike performed better than I could have hoped. The guys and gals at Speedgoat helped me put it together, and I must say, that as well as handling great, the bike looks sweet. Ellsworth has gone to gradient tubing in the top tube, and it also gives it a sleeker look. They were also great with fitting the bike and components to me and my style of riding. I tested the truth and a number of other bikes including the sc superlite, aeon isis, id, and others. I found the truth to be the most efficient (it's hard to describe in that with every pedal stroke you could feel the bike lurch forward) and the handling was unreal very well balanced. Regarding the suspension, you must understand that I am coming off an Ellsworth Joker with 6" of travel so the truth did not feel as plush, however it is plush enough to soak up most bumps and the speed I was able to generate was a rush. You will feel most bumps on the truth, but it takes the edge off letting you pedal through almost everything. The bike I tested had an air shock, but I have read that the truth with the romic coil shock feels even more smooth and plush. I am going to purchase this bike soon and want to have it weigh around 24-26lbs. What is the best fork/shock combination to provide the plushest ride and the lightest weight???? Regarding climbing, would any of you truth owners recommend going with a front fork that can be compressed and locked out? is it necessary or can it climb well without it? I live in the Toronto area (3 million people) and would you believe that none of the bike shops here have a truth to test ride. I would like to test the bike in climbing, are there any truth owners living my area that would let me grab a quick uphill test ride????? Would very much appreciate it. Long live Mountain biking!!!!! By the way, I have an early 2001 Ellsworth Joker sl black beauty that has only been ridden 10 times and is in mint condition that I will be selling (don't need 2 bikes) if anyone is interested, E-mail me for details.

I raced my fsr, then tested the truth on the same course and coudn't believe the improvement so I bought one in '98 ,the first one in rochester. I recently took the frame upgrade ellsworth offered. The bike is gorgeous, candyapple red SE that andrew substituted.I'm totally impressed,It's confidence inspiring.Super plush yet firm and controled. The bike and the fork are a perfect combo. It's a holiday weekend so I have yet to call ellsworth to thank them. If you want an exceptional highend ride, buy one, you'll love it too.

I have ridden MTB for well over 12 years My first one was a Schwinn Cimmeron (most of you who read this will be scratching your head) I have always ridden a hard tail because I figured my legs were strong enough... as for bikes well I have had a few... See below for more detail
Bike Setup:
Med Frame, Duke SL, XT Crank, All Sram Drive Train after that (9.0 SL) Including brakes, Chris king Hubs, Flite saddle (on every bike I own)Club Roost Rise Bar....
Bottom Line:
First Off... I Managed a Bike shop for a number of years while in school, I have had the advantage to ride and own numerous bikes. We sold plenty of high end MTB and I have ridden them all that gives me a great feal for what a bike should be. My first love is the road and I currently have a Waterford that was custom built by the good ole Schwinn Family (if you want a road bike you could not go wrong there)... So I hope this allows for my opinion...
The Bike... what can I say first off it is expensive no lie but I have other expensive bikes just ask my wife. I picked this bike because of the apparent quality.
I have posted about the bike last year after I first purchased it and I want to again now that I have had it over a year... I would still clssify it as the best MTB I have ever ridden. I lived in WV until Dec of this year, I built the bike to handle to conditions there, and now I live in TN... the MTB here is tame in comparison to WV. This bike handles everything you can take, I am a bit wierd about MTB'ing it is my fun... I love tight fast single track and I like to do some trials with it also. Not to mention Urban, Jumping steps and dropping off walls.
You could not find a better suited bike it takes the big hits and makes the little stuff feal non existing. Get teh Romic shock.. I was doubtful but after a year flawless never one problem and it has taken numerous bike drops (over 4') without a hickup. On a mechanical side ... the bike went together like a baby... the craftsmanship is top notch.
To much already... if you have the bucks get it.. it will serve you well

I have not bought the bike yet, but if Ellsworth's customer service and response is any indication of the product quality, it's going to be good. Sent and email to Ellsworth requesting some information, got a response in less than 15 minutes and a follow up the next day. Andrew provided much more than just the answer to my question, he was knowledgable about bike and gave additional info that was helpful.
Usaully you can tell who works in a store or shop, it's the person who ignores you. Not the case at Ellsworth. After a demo ride and exchanging emails with Andrew, I am buying this bike.

Climbs like a dream. Handles all hits, big and small. Light yet strong.

I'd say the price was a weakness, but this bike is worth EVERY penny that I paid for it. I saved for 2 years for this bike and it was worth every bit.
Similar Products Used:
I rode 7 bikes on singletrack when shopping for the Truth. The truth beat them all. Intense Tracer, Intense Uzzi SL, Titus Switchblade, Ellsworth Isis and Joker, Ellsworth ID, Santa Cruz Superlight and others.
Bike Setup:
Fox Float RLC forks match perfectly with the Fox Float shock. Everything else was the best components I could find.
Bottom Line:
I know I haven't said anything bad about this bike, and quite honestly I can't think of anything negative to say. I travel with my bike all the time. I've ridden the Truth in Moab, Fruita, Durango, Phoenix, West VA, PA and my home in Northern Virginia. The bike handles everything well. Pennsylvania rocks dissappear under the bike. Small braking bumps don't phase it. You'll feel the huge hits since it only has 4" of travel, but it definitely takes the edge off it.
What really distinguishes this bike from every other is the way it climbs. In the saddle, you don't feel any suspension movement at all. When I look down at the shock, I can see it moving and absorbing bumps on the way up, but it doesn't rob any of my energy. All the work they did on the geometry paid off bigtime.
The bike is a dream on singletrack. It carves like a knife through tight and twisting trails. If you're looking for a full suspension XC bike, look no further.
The sizes are a little bit limited. My 20" fits perfectly.
Speedgoat was the best place to buy this bike. I spent 4 hours riding different bikes on singletrack about 1/4 mile from the store. It gave me a total feel for how the bike rode. I couldn't have asked for better service.

Bottom Line:
Can equipment make you a better rider? Yep. The difference is amazing. The Truth lives up to its claims. It is light. With the Fox Vanilla and the Romic my bike weighs 26 lbs. I went with the coil instead of the air for durability since I am over 200 lbs.
It rides like a hardtail, almost. On the climbs I notice a big difference...for the better. Because of my size I tend to climb seated. Feels like the back tire is velcroed to the ground, instead of skipping around like on my hardtail. I feel more stable and made every climb on my local ride that I sometimes struggled with on my hardtail. Still, I hardly noticed the difference on the flats. I had a little bob, but that was alleviated once I dialed in the sag on the Romic. Which reminds me...talk about plush.
I really notice the difference when pointed downhill. On my hardtail, I was pretty good going down. Being gravitationally challenged helps in that regard. Now I can't believe how much control I have. I rode with one of my regular riding buddies and he was amazed how much faster and in control I was. He said I looked like I was floating over the ground. I felt like I was simply in control. The only downside to this I've noticed is that I can get going much faster than I think I am going. I almost lost it into a fence on one section simply because I was carrying way more speed than I thought. Fortunately, the Avid Mech saved me.
Bottom line...all my expectations have been met and then some.

Bottom Line:
first let me say a few things about beyond bikes. they offer free build on their custom bikes along with something like 5% off the total bikes cost.I asked for a medium frame (i think i did) and they sent me a small. since the truth has a long top tube it fits me anyway. I asked for the canecreek ad-12 as oposed to romic or fox and they sent me the cane creek cloud 9(see review below) . they didn't send me the QR's that I had bought. then when I called them they said that i had lost it. they sent them to me on 2-day delivery after some hagling . they didn't send me any spacers for under my stem because they only do that when they build the bike(i got a good deal on the x-vert at pricepoint so I was building the bike). I was saving them the hasle of building the bike and they can't even send me the parts so after yelling at them they sent me some. I had been giving them payments on the parts that I ordered 5 mounths before. when I gave them the final payment they told me that the red king hubs that I wanted where backordered and I would have to have blue and that the bike would be at my house in 5 days. It took nearly 2 weeks. although beyond through on sending me the small frame ( because I think the medium might have been on the big side) but over all I am dissatisfied with beyondfor the amount of money that I spent I would expect better service.
about that cane creek cloud 9, it has a few up grades from the AD-12. * it has air dampening compressson and rebound * it has a button that locks out the rebound by shuting the second champer to wich the air flows to and from to create dampening. * this button makes the shock stiffer and more progressive. so progresive that you can only use the first half of it's travle. but since the air can't get into the second chamber it can't creat any rebound damping * the air dampening produces progressive suspension. the dampening is vurtualy non existant over small bumps and then smothly stiffens up throught the travle. ONE DRAWBACK IS THAT SINCE THERE IS VERY LITTLE BEGINING SROKE DAMPENING IT PRODUCES NOTICABLE BOB IN ALL DAMPENING SETTINGS, IN CERTAIN SITUATIONS WHEN SPINNING AT SOME CADENCES. THIS CAN BE AVERTED BY INREASING THE AIR PRESURE TO THE POINBT WEAR IT IS TOPPED OUT LIKE THE GAINT NRS BUT THAT WOULD TAKE MORE PERFORMANCE THAN IT WOULD ADD ALL SAID I WISH I WENT WITH ROMIC AND I'M SURE THAT AS SOON AS PROGRESSIVE FIFTH ELEMENT HAS A 1.5 AIR SHOCK I'LL GET THAT
Now what realy matters is the ride of the bike. the bike has a long top tube, 100mm stem, 24" bar, and 71degree head angle. All this equates to a stable with ravor sharp steering in any situation. these two characteristics don't usualy go toghether. the only minor is that it steers to quickly when going above 30 mph but in my area the only place you can atain these speeds are through striaght downhills through smooth open feilds with wide turns so that it does matter that the bike has a very slightly twitchy feel. this bike downhills and does technichle sections better than my specialized enduro, wich is supposed to be a free rider. with it's feathery 25 pounds with disks, 4 quality inches of travle F and R, and strong capable parts, it dominates my enduro and just about any other bikes in the flats and on climbs. * THE REAR SUSPENSION IS NOT AFECTED BY PEDALING TORK ON THE CHAIN. THAT IS WHAT WOULD SLOW SOMEONE DOWN. IT DOES HOWEVER BOB SLIGHTLY FROM THE NATURAL TENDENCY FOR YOUR BODY WEIGHT TO SHIFT UP AND DOWN WITH EVERY PEDAL SROKE. * NOT A BIG PROBLEM * THE ROMIC OR PROGRESSIVE SHOCK WOULD CANCEL EVEN THIS BECAUSE IT HAS LOW SPEED COMPRESSION DAMPENING (ALL OTHER SHOCKS ONLY HAVE HIGH SPEED DAMPENING)
* THE ANO FINISH MATED WITH THE STOT PEENED FRAME GIVE THE BIKE A STUNNING APEARENCE. FROM THE HEAD BADGE TO ALL OF THE CNC TO THE SENSIBLY STRONG REPLACEBLE DERAILER HANGER !!!!THIS BIKE LOOKS LIKE IT'S WORTH THE $2000 PRICE TAG OF THE FRAME I PAID!!!! * the hope minis are definatly the best disks made for XC or what ever you ride they have the very best modulation of their great power * for the $200 i paid for my x-vert air the value to performance ratio is unbeatable but if it had ECC and standard lockout, reverse arch with one of those marzocchi M-shaped arches, externaly ajustable travle, and a very ajustible negative spring it would be the absolute ultimate fork of all time. I CAN'T UNDERSTAND WHY THEY CAN'T GET ALL OF THESE FETURES ON ONE FORK! IF MARZOCCHI AND MANITOU JOINED FORCES AND SPLIT THE PROFITS IT WOULD PUT ROCKSHOX OUT OF BUISNESS OR FORCE THEM TO BE INOVATIVE. IT WOULD BE A MAJOR INOVATION IN SUSPENSION TECHNOLOGY.
* I've only done one race with this bike(because I've only had it for a few weeks) and I had a severe sinus infection so I could not race well but even still I was out climbing every one and catching people on down hills the greatest of ease. I was just to sick to keep the endurance up to pace throught the rest of the coarse. * If your not familiar with suspension bikes then let me tell you that it really does give you more traction for cornering or climbing or anything
!!!!!GO ELLSWORTH!!!!!!YOU GUYS BUILD THE BEST BIKES!!!!!!!!
*****WHOEVER YOU ARE YOU SHOULD GET ONE BECAUSE YOU GET WHAT YOU PAY FOR WITH TIS BIKE. I WAS NOT DISAPOINTED AND NEITHER WILL YOU******

Bottom Line:
I am in awe of this bike. First off - I purchased the Special Addition Paint (Candy Apple Red) just beautiful! The welds are a work of art. 4” inches of incredibly smooth travel with little or no bobbing. Did I say how light this frame is?
O.K this is the 100mile report! Not that I am a great peddler…but this configuration climbs like a goat and you will find yourself traveling at speeds with a comfort level that will make you laugh. The Romic sucks up bumps and keeps the rear wheel planted wherever you go. By the way go with the ROMIC - I can't speak to the light weight XC riders but I am 205lbs and 6'2" - I tried to dial in Cane Creek Air Shock - just could not get the combo worked out. I swapped it out for the Romic - spent 10mins on the phone with Jimmy at Romic - and in 15 mins I was on my way -dialed in perfect!
Another reviewer wrote about the ability to literally point and shoot while riding the truth...BELIEVE US – it’s just the way it is. I found the combination BB height, suspension travel ( 4” rear and 100mm up front), and over-all geometry to be perfect in the NJ XC world where I do most of my riding.
I purchased this bike from Mike at Beyondbikes.com - Great guy, great customer service solid price ...and has real world first hand knowledge of the Ellsworth Products. Besides it was kind of cool to see your bike being built via the Web Cam.
Bottom Line - If you don't believe me...write me with specific questions. But if you have the pesos...and are searching for a high end, high performance XC machine that will take on the harsh trails and push your riding skills to the next level…search out the TRUTH!

It was the best mtb decision I've made,It's like night and day I'll nevr go back to hardtail again. The Truth is such a smooth ride and it's hard to believe but a better climber than my old zaskar was because the rear wheel keeps tracking over any turain. One draw back if you want to call it one is you will need to use your brakes more because of the extra speed your going to get downhilling its very fast and just soaks up the bumbs. I've tryed only 2 other full suspension bikes on brief rides and I have to say the Truth is better hands down. Just wish it wasent so damn expensive for the frame.Thats why i'm giving it only 4 flaming turds for value rating not performance.
