Let's face it, the gloom and doom of winter has a not-so-subtle way of draining the fun out of us. When it's easier to sit inside by a fire than it is to ride freezing base miles, we understand the simple choice. However, we don't love cycling because it's easy, we love it because it's hard. But, at the same time, we'll take all of the help that we can get. Luckily, Pearl Izumi understands the plight of the winter cyclist, and accordingly, made the Elite Thermal Tights.For complete winter protection, Pearl Izumi made the Elite Thermal tights from a fleece of the same name. This material is not only soft to the touch, but, as you would expect from thermal fleece, it's incredibly warming. However, this isn't to say that you'll be drowning in sweat during aerobic activity. Instead, Pearl approached the design of the fabric in a two-step approach. First, Elite Thermal uses an open weave that promotes breathability to minimize the very occurrence of perspiration. Secondly, the fleece has a high loft that pulls sweat away from the skin and transfers it to the quick-drying surface of the tights. Working as a system, you remain warm throughout activity without experiencing any chills from internal moisture.With the Elite Thermal tights, Pearl also placed an emphasis on providing a precise, cycling-specific fit. To achieve this, Pearl Izumi had to adapt a multi-panel construction. By strategically placing the seams around key points of articulation, you get an unencumbered, full range of movement that's free from abrasion. Pearl also went to the lengths of incorporating more surface area coverage into the design of the cut. The waist has been placed higher on the hips, and the leg openings have been contoured to provide extra coverage at the top of the shoes. To ensure that the tights hold their position through movement, Pearl Izumi also placed silicone grippers at the ankles.Your comfort in saddle is also important to Pearl Izumi. That's why the Elite Thermal tights come equipped with the Pearl's venerable Elite 3D chamois. This chamois uses a soft, variable density construction to provide the perfect amount of support where your body needs it, not where it doesn't. For easy entry and exit from the tights, or to simply ventilate on the fly, Pearl incorporated eight-inch zippers at the ankles. The tights also include reflective accents throughout for added visibility in low-light conditions.The Pearl Izumi Elite Thermal Tights are available in five sizes from Small to XX-Large and in the color Black/black.
