$50.00 | | Purchased At: | Bike Tech | | Strengths: | Comfortable, Looks good (yellow & black) | | Weaknesses: | The soles came off | | Similar Products Used: | Nike | | Bike Setup: | GT Avalanche, Rock Shox Psylo XC, Crank Bros eggbeaters | | Bottom Line: | I got them on sale. They are an older model. They have been comfortable and nice and stiff. I have been using them for two months on the road. Today I went off road with them and the left sole came away from the shoe. It slaps around like a flip-flop. The right one is coming apart too. I emailed Specialized today. I'll report on how they handle this. 25 bucks per month for shoes isn't going to cut it. My crappy low end Nikes lasted for six years. | Value Rating: Overall Rating: |

$32.00 | | Purchased At: | www.specialized.com | | Strengths: | Price reviews from this board price colors price weight price | | Weaknesses: | seems better for narrower feet, clors a bit bright but match my lavender closeout riding trunks | | Similar Products Used: | Specialized Sport, paid 8 dollars less for the Team Mountain, must be a recession or something | | Bike Setup: | GT I drive 3, loads of modifications daily | | Bottom Line: | Love the slick bottom, clips skid right into clicking not like my Sport models that had more rubber bottoms making it harder to find the click. Have to say like the extra stiffness and way lighter, but cleats a bit aggressive, otherwise for 8 dollars less than the sport models this shoe rocks, like the rubberised bumpers that keep the fabric from taking abuse on rocks bonks and skids, perfect foot would be narrower with a slightly wider heal, I'm happy ride on, love online deals! | Value Rating: Overall Rating: |

$75.00 | | Purchased At: | Specialized web site | | Strengths: | Good fit Good looks Stiffness | | Weaknesses: | Every single time my crnk turns, the top two straps rub against it. It is really annoying, but it doesnt detract from the performance. It is a little loose in the heel area for me. This may be because i have a narrow foot. | | Similar Products Used: | None | | Bike Setup: | 99 Specialized hardrock A1 Comp FS, stock with Eglund total air cartridges, BG comp saddle, etc | | Bottom Line: | Very nice shoe. Good quality, the only weakness i found is the loose fit in the heel, and the rubbing of the straps on the crank | Value Rating: Overall Rating: |

$100.00 | | Purchased At: | Climb High | | Strengths: | Pretty Cheap (I got a deal through my shop) Fit okay. Pretty Stiff | | Weaknesses: | They're ugly. They fall apart.
| | Similar Products Used: | Other Specialized Shoes | | Bike Setup: | Voodoo bla bla bla | | Bottom Line: | While these shoes were holding together, they were pretty good. But after about a season of frequent racing, the stitching began to come undone, the knobs on the bottom started tearing off, and I've managed to crack (yes, crack) the sole of one of the shoes... they're not too stiff anymore! I think that if you're spending this kind of money on shoes, you might as well chip in some more and get something nice. You wouldn't buy a bike from a shoe company, so why would you buy a shoe from a bike company? Try Sidi, Carnac, Gaerne or Lake. | Value Rating: Overall Rating: |

$100.00 | | Purchased At: | Cycle Surgery, London, UK | | Strengths: | Well made, good quality materials | | Weaknesses: | Everything else - let down by very poor design | | Similar Products Used: | Big S e.g. M220 plus many others in the past | | Bike Setup: | Santa Cruz Superlight; Race Face chainset; XTR shifters, cassette, and mechs; Marzocchi X-Fly 100mm forks; Hope XC hubs and C2 disks and levers with Mavic X618 rims. | | Bottom Line: | Maybe it's just the way I cycle or my feet (!) but I really hate these shoes - they're the worst SPD shoes I've owned. I have persevered but have had to move on to Shimano M220s. The main problem is the awful design of the sole. It's a constant battle to engage cleanly with the cleats, with the result that the foot slips off the pedal 40% of the time. It seems to be that there is very poor clearance around the cleat area. Also, the middle of the sole area is very narrow and completely smooth - so this leads to the second problem - when you try to catch the pedal or just rest your foot there whilst waiting to move off (say at traffic lights), the foot slips off as soon as you apply power - it's very difficult to coast with your foot just resting on the top of the pedal. Other problems include a very narrow toe and only two velcro securing straps - the shoe never feels that its tightened up evenly. Now I use Shimano M220s - and I just forget that I have the shoes on, as it should be with good footwear. Specialiazed are a brilliant company and most of their products kick - but this one's a real turkey. Sorry guys - back to the drawing board!

$100.00 | | Purchased At: | Local Shop | | Strengths: | I have a sort of wide foot and the wide toe box of the shoe fit me great. The shoe has a nice stiff sole and the venting is great. | | Weaknesses: | Towards the end of the racing season a few of the velcro straps started to fail. After a few creek crossings this spring pretty much all of the straps were failing. | | Bike Setup: | 2000 Trek 8500, XT/XTR, SID XC, Time ATAC carbon pedals | | Bottom Line: | This shoe is a great shoe if you don't plan on having it for more than a year or there about. | Value Rating: Overall Rating: |

$65.00 | | Purchased At: | local shop | | Strengths: | they're comfortable, mine have been very rugged so far. they match my frame (ok, so that's not really a quality issue), and they have a nice, stiff sole. nicely vented too. | | Weaknesses: | walking with the toe spikes is a bit annoying. i took mine out. there's been some fraying of the velcro, but its still intact after a year and a half. the liners also slip some nowadays. nice summer venting is a pain in the winter. | | Similar Products Used: | first set of spd shoes. i've liked them enough to stick with them... | | Bike Setup: | wellgo pedals (i haven't had much trouble with them either, but i clean them after every ride) | | Bottom Line: | i like the shoe. i'm not going to give it a perfect review because a lot of you say you've had bad experiences with them, and my velcro is starting to fray a little. but i won't rip them either. they fit my feet fine (maybe i have weird feet. hey, i dunno, its not something you like to think about) they have served me well, and i think i got my money out of them. i've raced in the shoes three tiems, ridden and crashed, mud soaked, rock marred, tore the soles up, and wore them all day on gravel before. they are still in one piece. so what if i'm a novice? i can still tell that my pair have been worth every cent. hope i have as much luck with the next pair i get. when i need to replace these. | Value Rating: Overall Rating: |

Toe and heel bumpers are well thought out. Too bad the retention system sucks. The first pair I got the velcro wore out within a month. I returned them. The replacement pair had one front velcro strap that didn't stick from day 1, but they fit so well that it didn't affect they way they stuck on my foot. But then 2 months later, when tightening up the straps, the metal loop that the strap goes through to fold back on itself snapped in two. I took this pair back and got a pair of Shimano M220s-the blue ones with a carbon sole. Now I'm very happy because the shimanos rock. | Value Rating: Overall Rating: |

After only 10 miles of relatively gentle trail use while riding with my wife, the sole broke almost in half near the heal of the shoe. I weigh 190#'s and I never even raced or cranked hard in them yet. Thank goodness I have an awesome LBS who just swapped them for a new pair. They are comfortable, fit great and have a great aggressive sole. A broken shoe sure makes you wonder if they're worth the $139.00 price tag though. I will ride them for a few months (if they last that long) and place another review. I'm hoping it's just a fluke thing that happened. | Value Rating: Overall Rating: |

I payed $110.00 six month's ago. They are currently on closeout for $69.98 at Price Point. I found these shoes to be very painful, my toes grow numb after about half an hour, if you ride without stopping and after an hour the pain is unbearable! The soles are now comming apart after 6 months of hard abuse but they did not get exposed to the rainy season. Because they are the "Team" shoe i thought they would be better, not a good buy at over $100.00., would recomend them at $69.98 if you could try them on first, if not you will be in for some pain! | Value Rating: Overall Rating: |

First of all you would think that a company as large as SPECIALIZED would be able to warranty against the type of injury I put on these shoes. I actually split the solid shank clean in half ! Not to mention the heel cup is tearing off the sole. And the velcro looses its hold easily. Any way since I first purchased Them the fit has never been the greatest. It'svery hard to get the shoe to stay on properly, by using those velcro straps. I am able to pull the shoe off like a slipper, When upgrading to clipp-less you are looking for maximumm leverage. You can't possibly attain that when your heel is constantly lifting up. GARBAGE !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! | Value Rating: Overall Rating: |

I thought they felt good in the store, but after the first ride the archs on my feet were killing me. Even with the wide toe box they arent great. And to top it all off, the bottom strip of yellow on the left shoe fell off and the other side is ripping. I got a pair of Answer Flatfoots for $39 bucks from Supergo after that. from Clarkston, MI Date Reviewed: March 15, 1999 | | Duration Product Used: | 3 months | | Strengths: | erforated synthetic leather upper for breathability & durability. Straps over laces to keep them out of harms way and a neoprene inner liner that fits like a glove. Stiff sole is great. | | Weaknesses: | They are supposed to have gip on all surfaces. I'd have to disagree because the tiles on my basement floor are like ice when I'm wearing these shoes. | | Bottom Line: | A roomy toe box ffor people who don't like there feet to be jammed into a shoe. The neopre liner is nice and provides some protection from the laces. The Padded toungue than covers the laces are covered by two straps that really make the shoe fit well. They are durablke and scratch resistant and can be hosed off and cleaned right up. They material is synthetic so it doesn't stretch. The Bright yellow with red and black accents make it a kick ass looking shoe. Alitle hard for pedal engagemnt till they get broken in and you get used to them. Ihad to actually carve away a bit of the tread to make peadal engagement easier - minus 1 chillie for that. Overall a great shoe. | Overall Rating: |
