Date Reviewed: November 12, 2006
Favorite Trail:Lagunas
Duration Product Used:2 Years
Price Paid: $79.00
Purchased At:Bonita Cycle
Strengths:The removable spikes are great, in town I take them off for walking comfort but put them on for some hike a bike trails. Have lasted much longer then my old shoes which were history after only one year.
Weaknesses:Could be a little more supportive, Fixed it with super feet inserts.
Similar Products Used:Shimano
Bike Setup:Santa Cruz blur LT
Bottom Line:Good shoe for the money but my next pair will be something else

Date Reviewed: May 9, 2004
Duration Product Used:More than 3 years
Price Paid: $90.00
Purchased At:A dying bike shop (RIP)
Strengths:Stiff sole, big knobs, neoprene thingy, velcro
Weaknesses:The trim on the neoprene wasn't sewn on with a stiching which accomodates stretch and broke within first few months (oops, neoprene stretches....), but it was an easy fix - 2min with a needle and thread.
Similar Products Used:first clipless shoes
Bike Setup:Old Canondale M900, components average out to LX level
Bottom Line:Great shoes, I've had these for 3 or 4 years at least - and ride them almost year round through all sorts of mud, goo, ice and snow. They've lasted at least 7000km and still have plenty of life in them. I rarely clean them, but none of the material has rotted out. I haven't had any of the 'de-lamination' problems I've heard about - Maybe I got lucky, but I'm very happy with these.

Submitted by Jimbo a Weekend Warrior from MI
Date Reviewed: July 18, 2003
Duration Product Used:1 Year
Price Paid: $80.00
Strengths:This being my first clipless shoe, I would say IT WORKS! But really, it feels snug on my feet, it's easy to get in and out of, and it also looks cool.
Weaknesses:It's a bit narrow for my feet. Also, my bike is red, silver, and black. Blue and yellow doesn't go with it well.
Similar Products Used:Old school specialized shoes.
Bike Setup:Trek 4900 stock with rhyno lites, marzocchi z.5, and deore mech. discs.
Bottom Line:A great shoes, while not as technically up to date as the new SIDIs for example. I've had no trouble with the loop or the rubber sole. I'm pleased.

Date Reviewed: September 19, 2001
Favorite Trail:Hall Ranch
Duration Product Used:1 Year
Price Paid: $90.00
Purchased At:Performance
Strengths:Super stiff, toe spikes are great for scrambling up muddy hills, velcro straps are fast and easy, snug fit
Weaknesses:That neoprene cuff thing sucks. The finger-loop-shoehorn-strap-thing tore out of the neoprene cuff within a few weeks and now there's a big hole in the cuff. They should have reinforced the cuff before stitching a pull strap on there. Otherwise, no complaints.
Similar Products Used:Old Shimano 3-strap shoes (the black and yellow ones)
Bike Setup:Dean Scout, SID SL, XTR, other goodies including my faithful Onza H.O. ti pedals
Bottom Line:Good shoes if the pull strap hadn't destroyed the neoprene cuff

Submitted by Paul Marshall a Cross Country Rider from Cambridge, England
Date Reviewed: September 28, 2000
Favorite Trail:Glentress, Scotland
Duration Product Used:2 Years
Price Paid: $120.00
Purchased At:Mail Order somewhere
Strengths:Looks Cool (to begin with)
Grips the sloppiest muddy bank and allows you to run straight up.
Neoprene cuff keeps your ankles warm.
Narrow fit, suits my skinny feet.
Make a good race shoe in harsh conditions.
Weaknesses:Eroding rubber.
Poor adhesives used.Terrible trail shoe
Similar Products Used:Old Shimano bottom of the range ugly things
Bike Setup:Voodoo Bantu, Marzocchi Z1's, Titic gear, Time ATAC pedals (which rule!)
Bottom Line:I've had these shoes for just over 2 years. After about 1 year, the big rubber grippy-spike things started to fall off. Soon after, bits of the rubber sole started to erode away. The toe-box section fell off. The sole has come away from the rest of the shoe, they're held together with cable ties now cos I can't afford new shoes yet. NOT a good trail shoe.

Submitted by Ryan a racer from Fond du Lac, WI
Date Reviewed: May 18, 1998
Bottom Line:
I can't say that I'm pleased with these shoes. The rubber around the cleat doesn't mate very well with 747s, which should mate perfectly considering that they are made by the same company. The extra rubber restricts float and makes it much more difficult to get in and out of. If you have 636's you will have to shave off alot of rubber. Once I had them shaved the way I wanted them they worked good. The neoprene makes them harder to get on. The nice thing is it keeps the dirt out of the shoes. The fit is decent.
