Date Reviewed: May 20, 2009
Favorite Trail:Lake Louise, BC, Canada, otherwise Butser Hill, Hants
Duration Product Used:1 Year
Price Paid: $85.00
Purchased At:wheelies direct
Strengths:Comfortable; well supported arch and heel. Very little rubbing even from first wear. Easy, secure closure system, Velcro is surprisingly secure and quick to use. Multi use - fine for road & MTB
Weaknesses:Chunky sole on inside heel, can catch chainstay on compact road bikes. Very little ankle support, SPD cleat rubs/grinds when walking - can cause a stumble if not aware of this. Very fiddly cleat setup, difficult to adjust once waterproof sticker applied
Similar Products Used:Specialized, Scott, Adidas
Bike Setup:Commencal Meta 666 with full cage Shimano SPD pedals, RS Lyrik 2 Step, Fox RP23 rear shock, Formula Oro K24 Brakes, SRAM X0 Rear mech - beautiful bike! (Bianchi Via Narone Carbon Road bike, with full Campag groupset)
Bottom Line:Great first time SPD shoe, but those after good support to the ankle should look elsewhere. These are comfy when set right, but incorrectly placed cleats can wreck your knees! The grinding cleat can also cause annoyance when off the bike.

Can be found for a bargain @ Cycleworld now, hence 5 chillis for value, but there are better options, esp. for MTB shoes which these are aimed at - so 3 for overall.
