Duration Product Used:1 Year
Price Paid: $60.00
Purchased At:Rhino's Bike Works
Strengths:Stiff sole. Aggressive, soft rubber tread gives great traction on rocks and makes them easy to walk in. Still holding up well after a season of use. Comfortable.
Weaknesses:Can't get to fit as securely as I like. The lower strap is too far forward towards the toe, and doesn't hold the top of the foot down. There's always a feeling of vertical movement in the shoe when you transition from pushing to pulling the pedal. Would be a great shoe if they moved the strap up closer to the other one, or added a third strap in the middle.
Similar Products Used:Specialized Sport, SIDI Scarpe.
Bike Setup:'02 Trek Fuel 98.
Bottom Line:I raced with this shoe in 11 races this year, but wouldn't recommend it to other racers because of the loose fit. I've just upgraded to a pair of SIDI's for next year.

The 070 is a good all-round mountain bike shoe for the casual xc rider. But because of the strap location, not a great choice for xc racers or hard-core riders. Awesome sole, too bad the uppers aren't as good as the sole. As with most Shimano shoes, works good with Time ATAC pedals. The cleat pocket is just the right size.

Strengths:Look very goed, fit perfectly, if you have narrow to normal feet. Reflecting material, safer and also looks cool by night. It drys very fast if the are wheat. no smelly feet, good ventilatian.
Weaknesses:the grip of the shoe in mud, does not have spikes
very cold shoe (depends on the weather of cours), it ventilates very good.

Submitted by Di a Weekend Warrior from Simi Valley, CA
Date Reviewed: May 28, 2002
Favorite Trail:Long Valley
Duration Product Used:Less than 1 month
Price Paid: $70.00
Purchased At:A local bike shop
Strengths:Stiff. Nice lugs and recessed cleat area for klutzes like me who need to put a foot down at the intersection.
Weaknesses:Extremely narrow, indeed PAINFUL, toebox. Orthotically poor support. Materials seem a bit K-Martish, but I couldn't tolerate them long enough to review durability. Difficult to find my click-in spot despite repeated cleat adjustments.
Similar Products Used:Specialized Sport Mountain '02. Just got 'em, so far superior in every way for the exact same dinero-- check out my review on these in a few days.
Bike Setup:Specialized Hardrock & Specialized Sirrus.
Bottom Line:Might be okay for those with very narrow feet. Agonizing for someone like me who needs a wide shoe (I also have a broken toe). So glad I was able to get a refund!

Submitted by Matthew a Downhiller from Andover, Ma, USA
Date Reviewed: January 1, 2002
Favorite Trail:Bow Ridge Trail, Lynn Woods
Duration Product Used:6 months
Price Paid: $40.00
Purchased At:REI
Strengths:Great Arch Support, Velcro = easy on, easy off. Stiff but not too stiff.
Weaknesses:very narrow.
Bike Setup:Full suspention Trek Y3 and a Novara Buzz 01'
Bottom Line:Great shoe. You may have to do some minor trimming if your run with any other pedal other than SPD (though that goes for most shoes) I use them for both mountain biking and commuting to work and they have proved to be a great shoe for both.
