Favorite Trail:Backbone
Duration Product Used:Less than 1 month
Price Paid: $70.00
Purchased At:Pricepoint
Strengths:wide toebox, metal ratchet system, stiff sole, slightly softer tread for traction, excellent fit, toe protection, walkable, grippy material in the middle, cleats and wrench included!
Weaknesses:none
Similar Products Used:Sidis, Shimano
Bike Setup:Stumpy Xpert
Bottom Line:SMART shoe! I did a lot of comparisons this time to replace my Sidis... Price vs. Quality/stiffness/fit was the key tradeoff. I favor a stiff sole that's walkable without much slip on a slippery floor; a tread material issue more than anything else. Sette fused a softer tread onto a stiff sole, which is a more expensive process. The treads near the cleat are slightly splayed out towards the front - aids entry (amazing how many shoes dont do this!!). The toe has a small tread part - you'll get wear there from portage. smart. There's a bit of grippy material between the cleat and heel so you can put the pedals there unclipped and not slip off. The tread on both sides of the cleat are FLAT enough to allow standing unclipped and not slip off the pedals. The toebox is big for airflow. The cleat nut is big to cover the complete channel at extreme ends of range - no gap to shove mud into. Lastly, cleats, a cleat wrench, and cleat screws were included. VERY walkable - the tread shields an SPD cleat completely from the floor.
This is a fantastic value, bottom line.

Strengths:Great product. Stiff yet comfortable for walking and long rides. Great price. Great value
Weaknesses:None so far...we'll see how long they hold up.

Bottom Line:Superb shoe for an amazing price. This review is for the 2009 Sette Epic MTB shoes. I purchased these at pricepoint.com. I tried on Sidi and shimano shoes. Sidi is an amazing product, but I really don't want a shoe so stiff that I can't safely walk in them on rough terrain. I wear a Nike 11 sneaker and found that Shimano's and Sidi's required a 45 size. This is due to the fact that the toebox is narrow. I decided to take a chance on the sette's on Pricepoint.com. I called to confirm the recommended size and they told me that I should size down. This is due to the fact that the toebox is wider than sidi and shimano. I have to say that these shoes are the perfect combination of stiffness and comfort. I ride 3-4 days a week. I can ride long distances and the shoe does not give under pedal power. Really an amazing shoe for an amazing price. you will have to pay at least $150 on other brands to get the same quality. Great shoes

Strengths:Stiff sole, good ventilation, feel durable, ratcheting buckle, look cool
Weaknesses:None that have been discovered thus far.
Similar Products Used:Shimano
Bike Setup:Cannondale F600
Bottom Line:These shoes are a really great deal for the level of quality you'll receive.

One thing to note on the Sette Epic model shoes is that the sizing is spot on. Some reviewers mentioned that the Sette shoes run a size larger than their US stated sizes, but I found this to be innaccurate for mine. I wear an 11 in almost every shoe, so I went with their size 44 or 10.5. They were too small so I had to send them back in exchange for the 45 and they fit perfectly. So I'm not sure about their other models, but the Epic's sizing is normal. Maybe they've corrected the sizing on the newer production models going forward.

Strengths:Extremely stiff, yet extremely comfortable. Great bargain when compared to comparable shoes.
Weaknesses:None that I have found.
Similar Products Used:Spec, Sidi
Bike Setup:Moto Fly Pro
Bottom Line:Amazing shoes for an amazing price. I have given these shoes a beat down for 2 years and cannot wear them out - and they remain as comfortable as the day I bought them. I have even used them on 2 separate 150 mile charity rides and my feet remained cool and comfortable the entire time I had them on. Excellent stiffness allows you to jump on the hills without feeling a thing and also provides excellent walkability without losing comfort (although as I found out the hard way, I would avoid slick surfaces...but that's true for any MTB shoe).

Strengths:Fit, durability, comfort
Weaknesses:None
Similar Products Used:Sidi Dom 5, Adidas something-or-others
Bike Setup:Jamis Dakar XLT w/ nothing stock remaining save for the headsset and hayes brakes
Bottom Line:Best shoes I have ever had. I've been using these rigorously for the past 2 years and they still perform as new. They look like hell at this point, but what wouldn't? I have a slightly narrow size 12 foot and the 46 size fits worderfully with blue superfeet inserts. No hot-spots (have been using with egg-beaters for the past couple of months). Even without them being a tremendous value, these shoes are fantastic. Not only would, but WILL buy them again.

Strengths:Good fit, can take a beating.
Weaknesses:Haven't found any yet.
Similar Products Used:AXO Tiburon 2's.
Bike Setup:Fisher Sugar.
Bottom Line:For the money, I don't think you can find a better shoe. They felt great from the first ride. The sole is stiff enough to transfer power well, but you can still hike-a-bike in them without pain or falling all the time. I like the fact that you can replace the strap and buckle which means these shoes will last a long time. I would definately recomend them. Great shoes.

Strengths:light, stiff, comfortable, cool, great value
Weaknesses:sizing is possibly slightly off, slippery on wet rock
Similar Products Used:various
Bike Setup:Niner SIR9, geared, w/SPDs
Bottom Line:Holy moly! These are great shoes and an amazing bargain at the price I paid! Super stiff, super comfortable. The ratcheting design is terrific and lets you snug down as much as you want. Very stiff, very light. As others have noted, comfortable enough to wear all day. I love these shoes. Very fast in/out.

I found the sizing was slightly large, but when I replaced the built-in liner with green Superfeet insoles (which I do with most sport shoes) it worked out fine.

My only reservation is that they can be tricky/dangerous if you find yourself having to descend wet rock or slick clay by foot.

Nice looking shoes and as others have pointed out, clones of the six six one shoes. If in doubt, size down.

Strengths:Stiff, comfortable, easy on/easy off, ratcheting strap, looks, price.
Weaknesses:None.
Similar Products Used:Lake MX160's.
Bottom Line:These are the same shoes as the top of the line SixSixOne XC shoe, exact same shoe. They are definitely the best XC shoe out there for the price. Ready to race. Tough, as they can stand up to some nasty East Coast abuse. If I were to nit-pick, I'd say they're so stiff that they're difficult to walk in if you had to dismount, and somewhat dangerous to walk with if you get hung up on slick rocks, despite adequate tread and toe spikes. But really, bike shoes are meant for riding, not walking. Other than that, there is no loss of power when stamping the pedals with these things.

Bottom Line:I bought these on a recommendation by a sales rep and once I received them I was pleasantly surprised. Recently I noticed that theses shoes are very similar to the 661 peak shoes except the colors are way nicer on the Sette's. and the 661's are 140 bucks. I take a better color and a cheaper price all day.
