Besides the area around the toes durability seems to be very good. I actually plan on getting at least a couple of more years out of these things. Sizing is an issue though, they run small. If you are going to order a pair I would seriously consider a size larger. My normal shoe size is a 9.5 and the Inyo 10's are tight. But overall I really like this shoe and will consider another pair. I ripped the laces out and only use the velcro straps which works fine and makes it very convenient. I'd say these shoes are a buy, especially if you're on a budget. | Value Rating: Overall Rating: |

$24.00 | | Purchased At: | pricepoint.com | | Strengths: | Inexpensive. | | Weaknesses: | One size smaller than the size as marked. Mine came without inside clete hole covers, and my feet froze on a couple of winter rides. The clete mounting surface became fatigued and worn, and the clete now rotates up to 45 degrees when uncliping. The laces are foolish. I have them tied loose under the tongue and just use the velcro to secure them to my feet. | | Similar Products Used: | Nothing. | | Bottom Line: | They're great if you don't want to spend $120 for dorky looking phosphorescent green and red shoes. Get 'em while they last at pricepoint.com, but buy a size larger than your foot is. I have another pair coming.
I've jammed my size 10 foot into this size 9 shoe for 6 months, and I can stand it cause I'm not walking or running. I had to shave about 50 grams of rubber off the bottom, inside sole in order to clip to Shimano or Bontrager pedals. The point at which the clip and the shoe meet has become so worn in 20 rides that I've had to locktite metal plates between the shoe and clete (inside and out) to keep the clete from rotating when uncliping. I had to fix a rotated clete during a race with a rock and lots of &?!@#%$$. There were no inside clete hole covers with the shoes, so my feet get really wet even without creek crossings. But, now they work OK, and I'm going to use them through this season. | Value Rating: Overall Rating: |

Can't beat that with a stick. I have a minor gripe about the length of the bolts for sttaching the clips to the shoes. These mountain biking shoes were the nail in the coffin for me ever buying another pair of Nikes as long as I live. The velcro on the left shoe wouldn't stick no matter what I tried. The soles were so uncomfortable that I had to wear extra socks just to make a ride bearable. Recently I was just riding along and the stupid shoes broke in half right behind the cleat. Do yourself a favor and stay away from Nike shoes. On a side note with Nike shoes, I bought a pair of Air Crested Buttes (a trail running shoe) last winter for $120, wore them for a few months around the house, realized the soles were coming unglued, tried to return them, and received only $60 credit from Nike. It is still stiff, but only stiff enough that it's stiff fairly comfortable to walk or portage the bike. The grippy sole helps and doesn't get in the way of my pedals.
I like the modern, sleek, low-profile look, rather than the flashy European racer look. This shoe fits the bill exactly. Nice looking shoe.
The combination velcro + lace is good, holds my feet snug and have had no fitting problems. Only problem is that I think the laces are a tad short and it's diffuclt to access and tie them underneath the velcro straps. This is just a minor inconvenience at most.
You cannot compare the Inyo to a $200 race shoe. It's not intended for that. But I think it's a very viable option for the normal XC/trail rider. Nice looks, good performance, and won't break the bank. No complaints here, and if you evaluate it based on its context and niche, the Inyo is an excellent shoe. | Value Rating: Overall Rating: |

They have performed extremely well ever since. Sure those clipless, Italian-made ballet shoes are sleek and sexy. But if the price doesn't make you puke the loud color schemes sure will. Also, if your ride includes an occasional hike up an unmakeable section, or you find yourself off-trail, tromping through weeds, over rocks etc., these Nikes are the BOMB! The aggressive, grippy soles are awesome. They stick like the dickens on slickrock, concrete drainage ditches, and other portage-only obstacles I often encounter. For those with larger pedals (like mine), I would not recommend placing a spacer under the cleat - it will cause the cleat to stick out, ruining the shoes' tractability. Finally, I mounted the shoe to the bike (without my foot in it) and took a close look. Yup, the tread was so deep that it was rubbing on the axle. Ugh... That's why it was impossible to clip out. Now, that I've trimmed them with a knife, they seem like a good pair of shoes but I give them 2 stars because I wasted 1.5 months before I found this out. I feel this is something my bike shop should have told me about. | Overall Rating: |

I used a buffer between the sole and the cleat and now it works sweet. This is a big design error but the rest is flawless. | Overall Rating: |

from Staten Island NY Date Reviewed: June 6, 1999 | | Duration Product Used: | 3 months | | Strengths: | Comfortable, exellent fit | | Weaknesses: | recessed cleat | | Similar Products Used: | Nike Nguba | | Bike Setup: | Klein Mantra | | Bottom Line: | I liked these shoes as soon as I got them. I thought they looked cool and wore them around to break them in a little. When I used the shoes with my smaller SPD petals there wasn't a problem, they worked great. Problem arose when I tried to use them with my M636 Pedals. For my life I couldn't get them into the pedals. I didn't try this before hand so I spent the whole day riding on top, which is fine with those pedals just not the desired use. So I had to shave them down when I got home. It took a little time and effort, but well worth it. I gave the Inyo's 4 chilies because I had to work on them. Don't let that stop you. | Overall Rating: |

from Dallas, TX Date Reviewed: May 30, 1999 | | Favorite Trail: | poto, MI | | Duration Product Used: | less than 1 month | | Strengths: | looks cool, stiff sole, not too expensive, full of features | | Weaknesses: | cleat mount is WAY TOO recessed.. | | Similar Products Used: | Performance home-brand shoes... | | Bike Setup: | Klein w/ Bontrager RE-1 pedals.. | | Bottom Line: | They suck!! at first.. the cleats are so very recessed that you can barely click in.. I didn't realize this, so I thought the re-1s were just a bit tight since they were new.. after about 10 crashes from not being able to release from the pedals (and extreme difficulty clicking in).. I was convinced the Bontrager re-1s were a piece of crap.. so, while gathering my old $25 performance/wellgo pedals that work flawlessly to replace the re-1s .. I took one last look at how it clipped in.. and sure enough.. the rubber tread on the shoe was totally in the way!! bad bad bad bad bad design.. you can tell really quick that Nike is very new to the mountain bike clothing arena.. (but more knowledgeable about comfort!) never-the-less, after about 1 hour of twiddling away the rubber on the shoe bottom, I now have a very choice setup... works flawless now.. but I won't be purchasing nike shoes again unless this is changed... I can't believe the designers didn't run into this problem.. did they ever actually use clipless pedal with these shoes when designing??? Anyway.. if you don't mind trimming the rubber away, they are a kick-butt shoe... | Overall Rating: |
