Favorite Trail:
Hydrocut
Duration Product Used:
2 Years
Price Paid:
$130.00
Purchased At:
Ziggy's
Strengths:
Exceptionally rigid sole in a light weight platform with excellent breathability.
Weaknesses:
Not a big fan of the upper strap being velcro and if you run into any big issues on the trail
Similar Products Used:
Time and Shimano XTR offerings
Bike Setup:
'05 giant nrs frameset, X.0 shifters and rear derailleur, XTR front derailleur, race face deus XC crankset, eggbeaters, race face next sl seatpost and bars, hayes hfx9 carbon, custom wheelset
Bottom Line:
Excellent shoes for XC use! After two years of heavy use I can't fault these shoes. They've held together after clipping trees and stones and even a couple of hard crashes. These shoes owe me nothing! No issues with the sole cracking (as noted in other review). With all this said if you're going to ride with these you're not going to want to have a mechanical breakdown as these are not hiking shoes!

Bottom Line:
this is a follow up to my previous review. Trek bikes, whence my shoes arrived at the bike shop, still have a bunch of these, and the next model down, the YVR. if you need to warranty them, do it NOW. take them to a Trek dealer, ideally the one you got them from. i chose to downgrade tot he YVR and Trek gave me a credit to make up the difference.
so, 1 flaming chile to nike in the overall rating, but 5 to trek(their distributor) in the value rating for standing behind what they sell.

Strengths:
really stiff, light, easy on off, well ventilated.
Weaknesses:
carbon fiber cracks, no rubber transition from sole to toe cap(wear).
Similar Products Used:
sidi dominator, nike nGuba(yeeeeaaaars ago)
Bike Setup:
29er ss, rigid.
Bottom Line:
the carbon fiber on the soles of these shoes cracked all the way around after a couple of months. right around the edge. nike has discontinued this shoe and all similar models, and the only option for returns are a nikestore.com credit. that would be fine, but there is nothing to replace the shoe there. they are running out of sizes left very quickly. the shoes would have benefited from the addition of some kind of tread or even plastic transition from the toe tread to the toe cap. this in order to prevent wear from those occasional rocky hills that you have to get off and run.
