When we have the groove, we feel like we can ride all day at a tempo pace. Not killing it, not noodling, but moving, rolling, feeling the ups but not slowed by them and taking advantage of the downs, and not distracted by the ruts and rocks. This is where Mavic's Tempo Shoes shine. It's a one-shoe-for-everything kind of dog. Stiff enough for transmitting lots of power from your legs to your pedals, but with a little give, so you can feel comfortable on the hike-a-bike sections, thanks to the Carbon Comp outsole. And the rubber bumper toe cap is bigger and softer than the previous iteration, better for bashing as it's more durable. Also improved is the security system. The ratcheting buckle has gotten larger to make for easier, more confident manipulation by big or gloved hands. The ratchet strap has gotten deeper valleys between the teeth for better grip and a better-sounding click. The Ergo Straps runs through integrated, two-position nylon lace guides for both better fit and smoother action. At the rear, the Energy Lock heel still hocks down your foot with its comfortable, minimalist shape. The rest of the shoe remains the same. There's the Clima Vent Tongue that combines mesh with padding to give you both protection and ventilation. The Contagrip sole has well-spaced lugs to make sure that grip is good and that the shoe doesn't clog with mud. The toes are threaded for spikes, and short, dry-condition studs are included. The Ergo Fit 2D insole is pre-shaped for better support and has both a soft foam top for comfort and a harder, crushable foam bottom for user-molded customization. The Mavic Tempo Shoes come in Black/Silver. They come in whole and half sizes for 4.5-12 UK. Claimed weight is 390g for a size 8.5 shoe.
Had the second fastest lap time today besides a pro. However my third lap slowed down enough for two guys with more consistent times to nip me at the finish line! Exciting but disappointing.
My workouts are mostly long zone 2 and short vo2 max intervals, periodized. I have stayed away from "fun ... Read More »

Seems whenever I do a long, high tempo ride I invariably (like clockwork) get a headache starting an hour or two after. I always thought it was due to maybe not drinking enough water throughout the ride but today as a trial I drank all of my 2L bladder despite it being cool and overcast and probably ... Read More »
The last Tuesday Workout thread started by LMN was helpful. I am also curious what others do for tempo workouts this time of year. This is what I did on the trainer last night:
5 min Warm-up spin
3 x 1 (1 minute rest) high cadence speed intervals
5 minute tempo+ warm-up
3 minute "rest"
45 ... Read More »
