Duration Product Used:More than 3 years
Price Paid: $70.00
Purchased At:ottawa?
Strengths:fit wide feet! super hard to find shoes that fit me wide feets. I even have two different size feet (7-9) and this actually work for me. I think it's that laces thing. Still in great shape. I've used them tons. Did couriering in them for a year. No problems.
Weaknesses:...the laces do get a bit pulled by the velcro, but i love the laces, so to me it's no big deal. They're a bit freakish long. Look like clown shoes, but they fit great. It might be the design, dunno.
Similar Products Used:zero
Bike Setup:umm... frankenbike. basically a rigid mtb
Bottom Line:These are a great deal. I've been using them for...5 years, no problems, fit wide feet, lacing means better fit. Breath well. yup, good schtuff. Not too great to walk in though, but they're for biking!

Date Reviewed: April 24, 2002
Favorite Trail:Waller Mill
Duration Product Used:3 months
Price Paid: $35.00
Purchased At:pricepoint.com
Strengths:Good fit, cheap, light, comfortable
Weaknesses:None yet.
Similar Products Used:Cannondale C-soles (suck)
Bike Setup:Cannondale Killer V CAAD2, XT components, Shimano 747 pedals.
Bottom Line:Mine are the 2001's that are mostly black (not a shoe for posers).

I bought these on closeout and thought I was taking a chance buying a cheap shoe. However, I am very happy with the fit (lacing and cover with one velcro strap work well), stiff sole (my C-Soles gave me hot spots), lighter weight, and value. Tried top-of-the-line Shimanos, but they are made for narrow feet. If I hadn't found the Lakes, I would have bought Diadora Chilis on closeout for $60 due to their excellent fit. The Lakes, at $35, are definitely a better value and, so far, are serving me well.

Date Reviewed: January 29, 2002
Favorite Trail:Walnut Creek, VA
Duration Product Used:3 months
Price Paid: $60.00
Purchased At:Performance.com
Strengths:These are GREAT shoes. They are terribly comfortable, both in the pedals and out. They have good traction if you need to walk. They look decent and the shoelace cover on the 2001's are great. Haven't had any problems and would buy another pair for the right price... and these were definatly the right price!
Weaknesses:None that I can speak of at this point.
Bike Setup:Modified REI Arriba hardtail
Bottom Line:Buy these shoes if you get a chance. The price is great and even if you want a backup pair of shoes to keep around in case your expensive ones break, these are great to have. Comfortable, sturdy, and practical.
