Five Ten BA51C Shoes

4.4/5 (5 Reviews)
MSRP : $80.00

Product Description

A simple slim-profile sneaker with world-class fit. We’ve taken our home-grown California style, mountain biking expertise and our climbing-inspired high-friction rubber and designed a casual, lifestyle shoe that is as comfortable on a slackline as it is peddling to the local coffee shop. The BA51C has a low-profile fit and new non-marking RED Stealth® Phantom outsole. A modern uptake on the “grom” sneaker.

Strengths:    Grip, looks, fit

Weaknesses:    none yet

Bottom Line:
The BA51C is my first 510 shoe, but it won't be my last. I've read all of the reviews of 510's here at MTBR and decided to go with 510's. I used to ride clipped in off road so I have an older pair of Sidi Domiator (I think that's the model). Great shoe, but not doing it for me since I've switched to platform BMX pedals. The Vans and Nike were OK, but I wanted a stiffer sole. I found the BA51C at Huck and Roll for a great price, so I figured that if I didn't like them, not much money lost. Let me tell you, these babies stick to the pedals like they are glued on. Very confidence building. I could feel the difference first time out. No concerns about slipping off during a rough decent. This is a great shoe. I'd recommend it to riders who have want to try platform or BMX pedals off road cross country riding or even for commuting. More agressive riders may want one of the other 510 models. Just about anyone would like these, I think. Sizes are spot on if you go by the Euro sizing chart. I haven't had them long enough to comment on how they last. Comfortable right out of the box. Laces are rather long, so be sure to tuck them in somewhere or they'll get caught in the chainring.

Strengths:    looks

Weaknesses:    soles

Bottom Line:
Grippy my foot. This shoe is not grippy nor sticky. Its just an ordinary shoe with ordinary soles. Tried it out on the trails 4 times already and its no different from my old tennis shoes.

Strengths:    Great looking, Well made and outstanding grip.

Weaknesses:    Takes a little while to wear in.

Bottom Line:
These shoes are great. I have now used them up at Whistler, The North Shore and commuting to work.
I also have some Five Ten FreeRiders which are hands down the best biking shoes around. The Ba5ic is great for commuting but if you are looking for a riding shoe go with the FreeRider

Strengths:    Looks like a normal shoe. Grips like a dead man's fist. Stiff sole.

Weaknesses:    Sole wears out.

Bottom Line:
The shoe uses the same sole as the the Impact but doesn't look like a circa 80's Reebok basketball shoe. Comfortable, wearable down at the pub.

It sticks like nothing else as others have observed. Stickiness does degrade over time as the shoe wears out but its still years ahead of everything else. I've tried loads of skate shoes but they either don't stick or they just wear out. A distant second best for me has always been the original Vans slip ons.

Using Crank Brothers 5050 with long pins and it adds massively to your confidence.

Sole is wearing out a bit quickly but its soft and sticky so to be expected. Shoe is also relatively stiff which is great on the pedals but not comfy for long walks.

If it takes a soaking it will take many days to dry out. Love this shoe and it rightly deserves all its praise.

If you don't like the look of the impacts than these are the right choice. Will be getting another pair when the time comes.

Strengths:    Look and functionality by far!

Weaknesses:    None really, but it seems the bottom of the shoe seperate from the side of the shoe and they wear out kind of quickly. Pricey too :-/

Bottom Line:
Aside of the wearing out quickly this shoe grips like a SOB. It also looks pretty awesome too and can be worn everyday.

There is no doubt that this shoe was made to grip.
For example, I pop this wheelie off the ground and I get a little over zealous and I end up on my back. Why? Because the shoe gripped so damn well I didn't get off my pedals fast enough!

The only low point about these shoes to really speak of is the price, but also for the price you get one damn grippy shoe!

If you really wanna shred it up, this shoe is perfect. And I will definitely by another pair when the ones I have become useless.
