    Favorite Trail:Turkey Mountain
Duration Product Used:More than 3 years
    Price Paid: $40.00
    Purchased At:Nashbar
Strengths:Simplicity, comfort, easy to adjust. Indestructible. I have flat, narrow feet and these are always comfortable no matter how long the ride. I can't imagine any $200 pair of shoes feeling better.
Weaknesses:Big velcro straps grab everything, especially dog hair!; aggressive trimming on sole required to clear some pedals, no provision for traction cleats.
Similar Products Used:Nike Poo-Bahs (the original ones with the world champion striped straps)
Bike Setup:Trek 8000, SID, Time ATAC Ti
Bottom Line:Good, cheap shoes if you can still find them. Not available at any site I can find.

    Date Reviewed: July 2, 2003
    Duration Product Used:1 Year
    Price Paid: $40.00
    Purchased At:Online store
Strengths:Good traction and ease of putting on. good sole that keeps the cleat off of the ground. they are easy to clip in and out with no difficulties.
    Weaknesses:Fit and comfort
Similar Products Used:Nike Poo Bah (for years I rode these shoes, they were much more comfortable)
Bike Setup:Kick-a$$ Redline XC XLT Comp R
Bottom Line:The straps don't fit right, they ride up on the shoe and over the tongue and eat into the top of my feet. I have been just grinning and bearing it for a year or so but the more I ride now the more these are getting on my nerves. I will be buying a new pair real soon. These probably would get three poops except there are four other five poop ratings. peace...

    Date Reviewed: August 19, 2001
Duration Product Used:Less than 1 month
    Price Paid: $40.00
    Purchased At:Jenson
Strengths:These are very durable, lightweight shoes. Quick to clip in and out (Shimano M545). Can't beat the price.
    Weaknesses:none
    Similar Products Used:none
    Bike Setup:Fisher Tassajara
Bottom Line:I originally ordered the pricier AXO Viper shoes but after waiting 5 weeks I was told they were discontinued for my size. So decided to get the Blackballs because they were in stock and were AXO. The good positioning of the two velcro straps alleviates the need for laces. You seldom go wrong with AXO products. These felt so good I decided to pick up another pair for when these finally wear out.

    Duration Product Used:3 months
    Price Paid: $92.00
    Purchased At:zetabike
Strengths:great affordable mtb shoes. the sole has enough grip to even climb on steep-rocky trails while lifting or pushing the bike and are easy and quick to pedal attach-release. i find these highly recommendable for those weekend mountain bike riders as myself who are looking for good stuff but don't want to spend big bucks on it. the materials are resistant and all the scratches will come off easily with regular shoe polish. great MTB shoes !
Weaknesses:i had to cut the front strap for it was a little long after tightening it. need to be very well air-dried after every use.
