Strengths:    Hard shell, comfortable fit, great adjustment straps, doesn't look goofy at all.

Weaknesses:    Not so great ventilation.

Bottom Line:
This helmet suits all my needs and looks cool doing it. The quality of it is amazing for the price, and even the adjustment straps are well-engineered and put together. It does get a bit hot, but nothing worth deterring a rider from wearing it on a hot day.

Strengths:    I bought this helmet when I was 16, I'm 36 now. I've taking head on crashes on Vert ramps while skate boarding, and walked away. Smacked my head on rocks while MTN biking and rode away. I've used this helmet Spelunking, Snowboarding, Kyacking and aside from a few scratches the thing looks great.

Weaknesses:    A little on the warm side, poor venting....

Bottom Line:
Imposible to break. It's not junk after one crash.

Strengths:    Cheap, strong and fits guys with big heads

Weaknesses:    Probably hot in the summer and not as light as my Giro E2

Bottom Line:
I bought the helmet for the look of it and also that it fits guys with big heads. I have a 7 and 5/8 hat size and the XL fits perfect and doesn't look like a salad bowl on my head.

Its hard finding a helmet that fits me, the Giros fit great too, but the Makai hard-shell skate type is bigger than the Protec. The Protec is a nice helmet and comes in lots of colors.

Raising the front end of a classic XC rig...

I'm considering raising the front end of my classic FS XC rig by one or more of the following means. I'm interested in knowing the merits of the various schemes. 1. Install a fork with more travel. The current travel is 80mm or so and I believe the front of the bike will come up quite a bit by mo ... Read More »

Fair hill classic - bring the family?

So first time riding the Fair Hill Classic or any race for that matter. Question - are there any activities going on that day at the park that can keep a 2 year old entertained for several hours. What are advantages to 29er bikes and the classic 26?

I love 29er bikes. I built one two years ago and since then have not even thought about going to a 26. The bike just rolls over everything. I found myself getting through technical sections, that would always make me fall, with ease. You also get much more traction with the 29er wheel because you ha ... Read More »
