Date Reviewed: March 14, 2005
Duration Product Used:2 Years
Price Paid: $50.00
Strengths:It protects your head if you fall on it. It sure is big enough.
Weaknesses:1. This helmet is poorly ventilated. Although I used it for two years, the use of a bandana was necessary to keep the sweat from draining into my face. 2. It looks like a mushroom.
Similar Products Used:Specialized-now there is some ventilation for you. No more bandanas for me.
Bottom Line:LG helmets have always drained sweat into my eyes, and with a properly ventilated helmet, this does not happen. When looking for a helmet, remember if you can see the shape of your head through the vent holes, it is properly ventilated, LG is not. This also explains the higher price of Giro and Specialized, it costs more to make a structurally sound helmet with large holes, but every time you ride with it and feel a breaze flowing over your head, you will acknowledge every penny you spent on it.

Date Reviewed: June 28, 2004
Duration Product Used:Less than 1 month
Price Paid: $45.00
Purchased At:Reidie Cycles
Strengths:Fits my head, light, really fits my head, cool, totally fits my head, looks good, and did I mention it fits my head?
Weaknesses:Haven't found any yet, but from previous reviews it sounds like I'll need to warm up the glue gun.
Similar Products Used:Bell Image Pro circa 1990. And about 103 helmets tried on in about 72 bike shops.
Bike Setup:1999 GT Avalanche, XT/XTR, Judys, and a few mods here and there. Does it matter? I mean, this is a helmet...
Bottom Line:Been looking to replace the old Bell for a while now. Its heavy, has a few small vent holes, and doesnt fit that well - kind of like wearing a housebrick. Tried so many things, but couldnt find anything that fits my head - everything seemed to sit up on top, or rattle around like a pudding bowl. Then there was LG...

Picked it up for NZ $70 - under US $45. Its so light, breezy, and looks like it belongs on my head, and it fits like a glove (well OK, I'd look stupid wearing a glove in my head, but...).

I havent crash-tested it yet, but like the idea of the roll cage and the 12 month "replacement" offer that came with it.

Price Paid: $45.00
Purchased At:nashbar
Strengths:Light, good venting (keeps the head cool even in Florida heat), locks down tight with no movement. Forehead pads absorb most sweat.
Weaknesses:could maybe use a little more venting, but thats just being picky
Similar Products Used:Giro cheapo helmet
Bike Setup:you need this?
Bottom Line:Great helmet. I picked it up on sale at bike nashbar for $45. It sure beats the pants out of my cheapo Giro helmet. I like the cool max or whatever pads on the helmet, they do a great job of keeping the sweat out of my eyes. There is NO helmet movement at all once you get this baby adjusted right.

Strengths:Light, inexpensive, wicked looking exhaust ports on top, almost too much adjustability....
Weaknesses:Helmet sides descend close to the ear, obstructing the path of certain eyewear frames; but, it is for safety's sake.

Purchased At:Bike Barn in Santa Maria
Strengths:the way it fits, looks, and feels on top of my melon....
Weaknesses:if you rub you happen to touch the visor for whatever reason, the little velcro doo-hickies don't do their job very well, I guess you can glue it if it becomes that big of a deal....
Similar Products Used:Bell and a Trek Star-Wars looking thing....
Bike Setup:Specialized Rockhopper... stock, getting ready for a major upgrade all around...
Bottom Line:I have what I like to call a "Herman Munster" head.. It is perfectly round on the front, and then it looks like someone hit the back with a 2X4... completely flat.. like Frankenstein.. Its crazy.. I can never find a ball cap, motorcycle helmet, anything to protect this melon.. to fit right... it is either too big or too small.. kind of in between.. the Medium size makes my temples and migraine headaches come about.. the large sizes, well I hit a damn bump and can't see a thing.. terrible... well with this problem I say.. Money is no object... Could not find anything to fit right, until I found this helmet.. IT IS GOD SENT!!!! Fits perfect... I would have paid $200 for this if I had too.. the price was great, it looks great, it is the BOMB!!! I was sooo happy that the first night I had it on for 8 hours walking around the house.. My wife says I'm a dork, but I couldn't believe I found something that fit soo well.. anyways.. Go buy one if your in the market for one.. Peace RJ.

Bike Setup:'99 Klein Mantra Comp, LX/XT/XTR, Rock Shox Judy SL, Fox FLOAT R, SDG, Bontrager, Michelin
Bottom Line:This is the best helmet ever, period. Everything about it is great except for the velcro peice used to secure the front of the visor which came of on the first ride (hot glue fixed that), its light and airy so you won't over heat. And the Spiderlock system is great because it creates a near custom fit. If your in the market for a helmet, this is it.

My first 'Wings' got kinda scratched up,but it was still usable. The velcro adhesive on the visor is still too inadequate for Southwest U.S.A. use ;no 'stick power' in the Texas heat!
SO---- when I called VERMONT Bike & Ski,and asked for help in ordering a replacement LG helmet ,VT Bike&Ski just shipped a new 'Wings' to me. No questions asked!!

I HAVE NEVER CRASHED LIKE THIS IN FOUR YEARS AND I END UP CRACKING TWO HELMETS IN ONE MONTH. OFF I GO TO THE DEALER WITH A VERY SORE NECK, HELMET IN HAND TO SEE IF THE CRASH REPLACEMENT WARRANTY WOULD BE HONORED. Date Reviewed: October 27, 2000
Duration Product Used:6 months
Price Paid: $79.00
Purchased At:Duke's Cycle
Strengths:Light weight, looks good, lots of ventilation and comfortable.

The straps are easily adjustable, soft and comfortable around your neck.

Spiderlock retention system works well. It keeps the helmet on your head - no wobble.

Good Price - less that $100 bucks Canadian.

The helmet does protect your head in an accident (read: crash). See Bottom Line, below.

Comes in lots of colors.
Weaknesses:The glue that holds the spiderlock velcros is weak. The edge of the velcro is tearing away, but they haven't come off.
The helmet whistles a bit in the wind and at high speeds. This is not really a weakness, but a feature. It can be used as an indicator of the weather (a storm is coming) and your speed (ooh, better slow down). It must be the design of the ventilation holes on top.
Similar Products Used:Bell
Bike Setup:Santa Cruz Superlight, XTR, Time pedals and Rock Shox SL.
Bottom Line:The real value of a helmet is how well it protects your melon when you need it. This helmet saved my cabessa in an accident this summer. The helmet cracked, but not my head (but it was sore). The LBS, where I bought the helmet, replaced it - free. Louis Garneau has a 1-year replacement warranty agains defects and crashes.

The helmet fits round heads, like mine, very well. That's why I bought it. You'll like the weight of the helmet, also - light.

I had to struggle a bit with the position of the spiderlocks on the velcro so that the helmet would not move over my forehead. No problems after the initial fitting adjustment.

Strengths:Great ventilation, looks cool, visor, Spiderlock is the best retention system I've seen, comfortable, and switchable padding
Weaknesses:the velro was not a good choice for holding the visor in place, kinda expensive
Bottom Line:A great helmet for anyone. Stays on your head without wobbling and its comfortable. Me and my friends went up to Tsali, NC for the weekend. My friends had some rental helmets and when they took them off they were covered in sweat when I was barely even breaking a sweat. Mine looked a lot better, kept me cooler, and was more comfortable. I felt pretty confident knowing that I had the coolest helmet there.

Weaknesses:
Seeing that the maker is Canadian...the styling is a little different with funny stickers and lack of reflectors keep this helmet from being a stylish mountain bikers buy. The price ($75-US)is fair but depending on your need or what, this is a good helmet. The only alterations I made on the helmet are cosmetic...I just removed the strange stickers.
