I quickly took it to my LBS who sent it away and got a replacement, September 2006. While I was waiting for the replacement to come I purchased a LAS which is awesome. So when I got the replacement I didn't use it often because the LAS was a better fit. The other dday I was cleaning the new Giro, after a ride, and found it had cracked in the same place as the first one. AAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHH am trying to get another replacement wil let you know what happens latter. | Value Rating: Overall Rating: |

$120.00 | | Purchased At: | Nashbar Direct, Inc. | | Strengths: | It breaths! Extremely comfortable. I'm happy with this purchase. | | Weaknesses: | Although this product looks really good, upon close examination, quality control personnel in China took a day off. For a helmet that cost over $100, it could definitely be better. There was a lot of imperfections on the gray material. I hope these imperfections will not affect the product's performance when the time comes when I bang my head to a tree or pavement. | | Similar Products Used: | Schwinn - Target special. | | Bike Setup: | Trek Session 77 | | Bottom Line: | It was a windy day today and the helmet made some noise similar to a slight opening of the car's windsheild or something like that. It keep my head cool and dry. Definitely comfortable and the fit is exceptional. However, quality control is not acceptable at this price range. The gray materail of my $20 Schwinn was better in the area. But I will still recommend this product because of looks, comfort, and fit. | Value Rating: Overall Rating: |

$140.00 | | Purchased At: | EMS | | Strengths: | Incredibly light and airy; looks small and not at all dorky or trying-too-hard-to-be-cool as most helmets do. | | Weaknesses: | Incredibly expensive, but... with this one, you will never be tempted to just not wear it. | | Similar Products Used: | Trek Interval | | Bottom Line: | Everybody says how light this helmet is, but I always take reviews with a grain of salt... on my first downhill ride with this thing, I thought "whoah!" It's completely true. The aerodynamics are just unbelieveable. Now I can never go back to anything else. Also, having grown up immediately before the days that bike helmets became common/obligatory, it's hard to shake off the "dorkiness" feel of them - but this one takes care of that completely. The fitting system is easy to adjust and hugs my head well. I never have the feeling it's going to slip or rattle around. Finally, this thing is almost absurdly expensive, but I just broke down and shelled out the cash... I figure with this one, I will resist the temptation to go without a helmet! | Value Rating: Overall Rating: |

$109.00 | | Purchased At: | Online at www.performancebike.com | | Strengths: | Even standing still, I can feel the air on my scalp--a first while wearing a helmet. No more positioning my head to get a blast of cool air while riding. | | Weaknesses: | If you have a problem with this helmet there must be something wrong with your head. | | Similar Products Used: | Giro (old styrofoam helmet with nylon cover), Selev Alien 2000 (Italian, bought in Japan, probably not available in the States, great helmet) | | Bike Setup: | Relative facts: I'm a sweater. I sweat buckets. Way more sweating than more than a handful of other people I know. Must be genetic, cause they're all white. | | Bottom Line: | I'll try to highlight what no one else has in this review.
It doesn't take more than a few rides to realize this is the best helmet you could buy--maybe there are 1 or 2 other Giro helmets that fit the bill but I believe this must be the best.
Just to add to the verasity of my statement below, my first day wearing this helmet was on a 100K ride, on a mountain bike, in 90 F weather.
Most any certied helmet will save you're skull in a bad crash--that's what they're made to do--but this helmet wont cook your brains.
Normal human body temperature is 98.6 degrees Farenheit (about 36 C). And in humans, the head is the chief place for body heat to escape.
Now imagine what temperature it is inside a badly or even fairly well-ventilated helmet. It has to be at least 110 degrees on in 90 degree weather in there--if your body hit that temperature, it would kill you in about 30 minutes.
This helmet does what very few helmets do, though many make the claim. It cools your head, and hense your entire body. That means less sweat, less water to carry and consume, less exhaustion from heat and sweat, and less throbbing headaches from both the heat and resulting discomfort.
Even standing still, I can feel the air on my scalp while wearing the Pneumo.
And this helmet is absolutely comfortable. | Value Rating: Overall Rating: |

Straps feel very soft/high quality next to skin; vents well; high-end image. Costs way too much considering it's made in China. You can see that the materials are good but the construction quality is down. The in-mold fit is not up to older Giro's or non-overseas constuction. I bought at a deeeeep discount and am thankful but it really shouldn't be the price that they normally go for. Over-seas production should lower price considerably. What's up Giro? It is super light weight, has great ventilation, and fits perfectly with no sliding around. The molded plastic shell is far superior to the glued & taped plastic shells. The molding makes it easier to see damage, which is important to me. Roc Loc 4 is more adjustable than Roc Loc 3, which is nice. I do not like the visor, I think it is too small and a little ugly. There are just too many vents, and they are placed in such a way most helmet mount lights probably won't work well on it. The price is steap, and the Pneumo is not a big sale item. Sure enough, I had to test out the effectiveness of the helmet --not planned. I was riding over a narrow bridge one wet day and my front tire slid on the bridge and I went over the side. Of course my shoes were clipped in and I fell 4 feet head first with my bike on top of me. Luckily the ground was soft from all the moisture; however, my head sruck a log on the ground that was not at all soft. In fact, it was dang hard. I was stunned for a few seconds and then relieved to find that all my appendages were still intact. Finally, I realized what had happened and could not believe I did not do any more damage to my body especially my head! I managed to get away with only a minor abrasion on my forehead where the helmet rubbed against my skin.
Once again, this is truly an outstanding product that I recommend! I am changing my value rating to five chilis!
Save your mellon -- wear a helmet!

This is a seriously well-vented helmet, you notice it immediately. Your head stays noticably cooler on hot days. It also looks cool and has excellent workmanship (as it should for the price you pay). And the fit system is excellent (Giros fit best on people with oval heads). And the detatchable visor is easy to take on and off and stays on until you take it off. $159.00 | | Purchased At: | REI.com | | Strengths: | Comfort, Ventilation, Weight, Looks, Strength, and Versatility | | Weaknesses: | Corn rows in your hair when you take it off. Crash replacement policy is kinda weak. | | Similar Products Used: | None Recently | | Bike Setup: | Titus Switchblade, Marathon, XTR, King, Hope Minis, Thomson, etc... | | Bottom Line: | After taking a flying digger at 20 plus, I feel compelled to say something nice about this helmet. I flew over the handlebars two days ago after railing myself into a debris filled washout in the trail. After a brief slide on my shoulder, I hit something hard right smack on top of my head. I felt a crunching sensation, but I think it was the earth giving way. I looked up and saw my bike land about 15 feet in front of me. I was in a lot of pain, but strangely my head did not even hurt. I pulled off my helmet and saw that it had only sustained a few scratches and tiny dings. This helmet probably prevented concussion, unconciousness, or possibly even death. The only part of my body that dosen't still hurt is my head.
Since then, I've found that Giro has a crash replacement policy that amounts to 20 percent off full retail. That's still $128, which is comparable to some web retailer's full price. Not only that, but you have to send yours in and wait. Better to just go ahead and buy a new one. Giro also has a free inspection of helmets. You pay for shipping out, and they pay to return it. I will likely just buy another one and send mine in for inspection. If it passes, I'll have a backup.
Bottom line is that this has to be the nicest and most comfortable helmet, not to mention the most securely fastened to your head bike helmet that I've ever tried on. The included visor makes it a snap to cross-dress back and forth between road and trail. After witnessing first hand how it performs in a crash, I'm sold. Price is not really an issue, after all, how much does a head injury cost? As far as I'm concerned, this is the only helmet worth looking at. | Value Rating: Overall Rating: |

The reason why this helmet is so expensive is because there are TONS of vents, and there are options for adjustability. You can adjust the fit and snugness of how the helmet fits the back of your head as well as your normal chin straps.
Plus not only is this one of the lightest helmets, but the new 2002 model has the best styling and looks. There are so many vents on this helmet that it really keeps your head cool and not sweaty. (Very important for me) It protects you very well but at the same time feels like you're not wearing a helmet because it's so light and comfortable.
If you read all the other reviews on this helmet, you'll know and understand why this is such a bestseller. I'm so glad that I spent the extra buck to get this helmet. | Value Rating: Overall Rating: |

After augering my temple into the ground, I was still alive and the helmet, despite having broken in several places, was still in one piece and right where I had set it when I started the ride. It would have protected me from any secondary impacts, which is where the excellent retention system really shines. $145.00 | | Purchased At: | Helen's Cycles in Santa Monica | | Strengths: | Most reviews here will discuss the relative comfort of this helmet. I'm writing to say that it saved my life. It's a light, comfortable helmet and after researching helmets I decided that this was the safest one on the market. A week ago someone blew through a stop sign and sent me flying through the air. I landed on my head, bounced, and slid quite a ways. I have little memory of that day (common with post-concussion syndrome) and a very sore body. I have NO MEMORY of the accident! The styrofoam liner cracked almost in half, but the hard shell held it together. In other words, the helmet absorbed energy like it's supposed to. You know those cheap, styrofoam-only helmets? They can separate on the first bounce,; if your head hits twice (like mine apparently did), you're toast. | | Weaknesses: | All bike helmet testing agencies assume that you are going to land on the top of your head - not the side or back. That is too much of an assumption. | | Similar Products Used: | Troxel riding helmet | | Bike Setup: | 2001 Bianchi Talladega with Ultegra | | Bottom Line: | If you ride without a helmet, thinking "it won't happen to me," or if you think helmets are a pain, imagine yourself staring into space like Jack Nicholson at the end of "one Flew Over The Cuckoo's Nest". Then go buy a helmet. Brain injuries generally do not heal. | Value Rating: Overall Rating: |

But a good bike helps! | | Bottom Line: | Like many other riders, I hate wearing helmets. This helmet is light, comfortable and the aerodynamic design aids in ventilation. It actually pulls air into the helmet.
We have had severe heat here in the NY region. 100+. The other day I rode without my Pneumo. It was quite annoying. Sweat was pouring down my head into my eyes and my head was less cool.
My biggest negative is the amout of buffeting noise that is created by this helmet (most helmets actually). Without a helemt you can hear a car approaching far in advance. With the helmet you won't know a car is near until it is on top of you. So you are required to keep looking back a lot more.
Guess I'll just start wearing a walkman again :)
This helmet is worth the money. Best helmet I've ever used and if it wasnt for my Bicycle Planet Salesperson, I would have "cheaped out" and found more reasons to ride without a helmet. He insisted this was the way to go...and he was right.

So far it's stayed in place without slipping forward, which is why I replaced the Boreas.
I've worn a headband for 12 years, but wasn't able to get the s/m to fit over one, and the m/l was too big. A 2-hour ride was ventilated enough so that a headband wasn't necessary (I have a very sweaty head). All that ventilation may come at the price of aerodynamics, as I could feel a definite breeze through the vents.
The money will be worth it if the helmet holds up for at least a couple of years. | Value Rating: Overall Rating: |

Mine came with 2 for some reason--both are the same. Don't get me wrong, the Image Pro was a great helmet, especially for the price I paid at the time (around $50), but the Pneumo has already proven to be a much nicer helmet for me.
The fit and comfort are much better than the Bell. The instant I put the Pneumo on for the first time and adjusted the RocLoc, the difference was apparent. I both on and off road with the Pneumo, and it doesn't shift or wobble on my head at all. It is also very comfortable. As the previous reviewer said, I can barely even tell that I have a helmet on at all because it is so light, sits so comfortably on my head, and stays so cool.
The ventilation is amazing. I know that there is no turbine built into the thing that is sucking air in the front and blowing it out the back, but by golly it sure feels that way. Of course, this may end up being a downside on colder days. I'll probably need to wear something under it to keep my head warm.
Granted I have only had this helmet for a few weeks, and it is the first "high end" helmet that I have owned. So far, though, it has all the qualities I was looking for in a helmet, and I do feel that my brain is safe, as the Pneumo is CPSC certified. | Value Rating: Overall Rating: |
