Submitted by one incredible donkey a Weekend Warrior from Alexandria, VA, USA
Date Reviewed: March 5, 2009
Duration Product Used:6 months
Price Paid: $20.00
Strengths:Cheap and strong. Sort of like a tall boy of Steel Reserve.

I wore them through the summer and they were not too hot. I wore them through the winter and my hands got a little cold, but it was 30 degrees so I'm not holding it against the gloves. If I want winter gloves I'll buy some.

Weaknesses:None that I have found so far. I would recommend maybe trying them on for size. The recommended size for me wound up being a little small.
Similar Products Used:Some Trek full finger gloves which didn't last too long.
Bike Setup:2006 Preston FR
Bottom Line:I feel like a fool for buying bike-specific gloves after using these. The only thing I get with bike-specific gloves over the Mechanix is padding and I use a thick grip on my bars so that's not an issue.

These gloves are great and cheap. When they finally do wear out I won't have buyer's remorse.

Favorite Trail:all of them
Duration Product Used:6 months
Price Paid: $11.00
Purchased At:Ebay
Strengths:Relatively durable, breath well and good for use in temperatures into the low 40 and up to the low 90s. It comes in a variety of colors, they're inexpensive, comfortable, and reasonable to wear from spring through fall.
Weaknesses:The elastic around the wrist wore out after six months of use. I was using this pair of gloves between 2 and 5 days per week from May through Oct 2008. Also, I did fall into some pricker bushes this summer and the prickers penetrated the gloves, ouch!
Similar Products Used:Mizouno baseball gloves.
Bike Setup:Trek 4500
Windsor Fens
Hiawatha
Bianchi SASS (retired)
Gary Fisher Rig
Bianchi WUSS
Bottom Line:This is a very good pair of gloves. They last as long as they should and will put up with a beating. Get a pair.

Purchased At:Ebay
Strengths:Tough as nails. Plenty of cushion as well.
Weaknesses:None
Similar Products Used:None
Bike Setup:08 Fisher X-Cal
Bottom Line:Great gloves for cheaper than any other top end glove. They have survived some good crashes and the stitches are solid. Will definitely buy some more. Might try the ones with the extra padding, but these are so good, it is hard to try something else.

Date Reviewed: October 9, 2007
Favorite Trail:Chumash/Hummingbird
Duration Product Used:Less than 1 month
Price Paid: $40.00
Purchased At:Pep Boys
Strengths:M-Pact-2. Durable, partially padded palm, warm, good grip. Good for crashing.
Weaknesses:Glove sizing chart indicates I should wear an XL but I need an XXL. No problem, I bought an additional pair and will use the first pair for around the house. Also, I was mistaken for a bike mechanic at Mammoth Mountain Bike Park. So I had to fix a few bikes before I got on to the gondola.

Bottom Line:These are great!!

Submitted by Mile High Mark a Cross Country Rider from Superior, CO
Date Reviewed: April 2, 2007
Favorite Trail:Anything with dirt...
Duration Product Used:1 Year
Price Paid: $20.00
Purchased At:eBay
Strengths:Inexpensive, well ventilated, fit.
Weaknesses:Low bling factor (I know, who cares).
Similar Products Used:Fox, No Fear, Pearl Izumi.
Bike Setup:Kona hardtail.
Bottom Line:This review is for the Vent model, which, as the name implies, is all about ventilation. I run Ergon grips, so I don't want/need a lot of padding, and these satisfy that requirement (the palm is a single layer of faux suede). Ventilation is excellent, but probably comes at the expense of durability (no rubber armor, and the single-layer palm). Fit is a lot better than many cycling gloves I've tried, but I do get a little bit of "bunching" near the velcro strap. For $20 I'm not complaining, though.

Weaknesses:None I can think of
Similar Products Used:Every expensive cycling glove on the market.
Bike Setup:Santa Cruz Nomad, Cannondale Jeckyll.
Bottom Line:Amazing glove. Thank you to all that reviewed this glove here and turned me on to it. If more people knew, none of the trashy "regular" cycling gloves would sell.

Favorite Trail:Blankets Creek
Duration Product Used:More than 3 years
Price Paid: $19.00
Purchased At:Autozone
Strengths:Price and durability number one. Number two would be their versatility.
Weaknesses:None that I have seen
Similar Products Used:None
Bike Setup:Steel hard-tail. Rockshox Tora, Time Pedals, Mavic Wheels, Panaracer Tires, Easton Bar, Truvativ Cranks, Shimano Controls
Bottom Line:Glad to see Im not the only person using these as riding gloves. I have one pair I work on my car and bike with and another pair i ride with. Great gloves. Tons of grip and durable as hell. Great alternative to high priced Pearls and Foxes. Id give more than 5 peppers for value if could.

Date Reviewed: July 5, 2006
Favorite Trail:San Juan
Duration Product Used:Less than 1 month
Price Paid: $30.00
Purchased At:Texas America Safety Company
Strengths:Price, construction, feel, look
Weaknesses:a little warm but not that bad
Similar Products Used:Specialized, Pearl Izumi, Fox dirtpaw
Bike Setup:2005 Specialized Ensuro comp 130 with some mods.
Bottom Line:Excellent value for the money. I bought both the M-Pact and the Lite - the lite is simply not heavy enough, so even though it's amazingly vented it would not handle a scrape over a rock garden (bummer). The new M-pact for 2006 has bash guards over the knuckes and fingers - the rubber is so well attached - much better than any other cycling glove out there. One of the best kept secrets in the MTB world - once Mechanix latch on to this expect to pay over $55 for gloves of this quality. I am sorely impressed! And the color range for those of you so inclined is also extensive.

Favorite Trail:desert classic
Duration Product Used:More than 3 years
Purchased At:issued from usaf
Strengths:great feel, i used these as my gloves whan i was stationed in korea as a mechanic on jet acft. in the cold they worked great, i used them in the mediterranian as well doing the same thing. even when my buddy was knocked out on a ride, i could still feel a pulse through these. very durable and functional. mud blood, oil, sweat, tears, you name it the glove can handle it.
Weaknesses:none
Similar Products Used:other types of mechanic gloves, and some crappy riding gloves made by fox.
Bike Setup:2005 specialized stumpjumper fsr expert disc 120, xtr all around sram gripshift (awesome)
Bottom Line:great for riding. you need to feel what you are doing in order to be an effective rider. a glove that is designed to be functional even when it is full of sweat and oil is a perfect choice for riding. full finger is the way to go, rocks like to take fingertips. logos just cause people to look and go "oooohhhh, looks like someone likes to spend 65 bucks on gloves that will wear out in a month" go for function, it is a ride not a fasion show.

Favorite Trail:Ridge in Annadel
Duration Product Used:3 months
Price Paid: $35.00
Purchased At:Kragen Auto Parts
Strengths:These are the M-Pact gloves, which have padding in the palm. Very comfortable, warm, but breathable, they do not cause hand s to sweat. Machine washable.
Weaknesses:A little pricey.
Similar Products Used:Trek bike gloves
Bike Setup:Kona Dawg
Bottom Line:I got these gloves because of great reviews on this site. They are excellent. I have worn them in 30 degree weather and they keep my hands pretty warm, but can also wear them when it is warmer and they don't cause sweaty hands. They have great fingertip feel and good padding in the knuckles and palms. One of the coolest things is that when they get dirty you can just throw them in the washer.

Price Paid: $24.00
Purchased At:LOWES
Strengths:Price, Durability, Padding
Weaknesses:None
Bottom Line:These are great gloves for the price. OK so the intended use for the gloves is for something else but I can't tell any difference from the more expensive one's you can get at the bike shop. There is a very large selection to chose from online at www.mechanix.com. I have the Series 2.5 padded, they seem very durable and have padding in all the right places. You can't go wrong.

Favorite Trail:Palo Duro Canyon
Duration Product Used:More than 3 years
Price Paid: $24.00
Purchased At:O'Reillys Auto Parts
Strengths:Durability, comfort, price.
Weaknesses:None
Bike Setup:Yeti kokopelli, crossmax xl, float rl shock, vanilla forks, juicy seven brakes, ect.
Bottom Line:I use both the regular non padded palm gloves and the M-Pact glove. I prefer the m-pact glove because of the padding in the palm, but my regular mechanix gloves are still in good shape after two years of riding. I love these gloves because of the durability and price. When they get dirty you can clean them in the washing machine and let them air dry. The only reason I bought the new M-pact glove was because of the padding in the palm, my old pair is still in good shape after two years of riding and washing. These gloves are the best.

Strengths:Fit, Durablility
Weaknesses:No terry thumb wipe your nose thingie.

Bottom Line:**Original no extra padding.**

I used these for years changing brakes & oil. I now use them for everything trail work parties, work around the house and riding.

I've had this pair for 1.5 years and they still look great.

Only 20 Bucks to do everything around the house and ride in them as well, that's a deal to me.

Try them

Favorite Trail:Watershed & Burnaby Mountain
Duration Product Used:3 months
Price Paid: $30.00
Purchased At:Lordco in Burnaby (Still Creek)
Strengths:Take note that I purchased the MPACT2 gloves not the standard MPACT1 gloves. The MPACT2 gloves are more durable and have increased padding. Also note they cost more too.
- Unbeatable fingertip sensitiviy.
- Superthick knuckle padding.
- Extremley well made.
- They look as good or better than most other gloves.
Weaknesses:They are actually designed for pit crew mechanics. I would say that they are too nice to be using while under my car. I wouldn't mind falling off my bike into the mud but getting oil on them would be a catastrophe.
Similar Products Used:The only "real" bike gloves i've used are the Fox Digit Gloves. (No contest)
Bike Setup:Stock 2004 Devinci Hucker
Bottom Line:These gloves are designed to take the worst punishment. I've been using them for a little while and I can assure you that they can handle whatever you can throw at them. I will never buy a different brand of gloves again.

Heh, if you decide that you don't like them for biking at least you will have fancy gloves to work on your car with.

Submitted by Bill a Cross Country Rider from Pemb Pines FL
Date Reviewed: December 2, 2003
Favorite Trail:Markham
Duration Product Used:3 months
Price Paid: $16.00
Purchased At:ebay
Strengths:This review is for the M-Pact version which has some additional padding (gel/foam) in the palm:
- Comfortable
- Cool for a full-finger glove
- Sufficient padding
- Protects the hands well
- Inexpensive
- Appears to be very well made/durable
Weaknesses:One finger has some stitching balled up on the inside making it a little uncomfortable.
Similar Products Used:Only short fingered gloves. The extra protection definetely gives a more secure feeling. I believe it would be durable enough for downhilling.
Bike Setup:SC Superlight, Marzocchi Atom race, XTR, Race Face, blah blah... we're talking about gloves right..?
Bottom Line:If you can find the M-pact version, get 'em. I haven't used the regular version for riding (only fixing my car) but I personally prefer a little more padding than the regular version. If you like a more tactile feel of the bar and less padding, get the regular version. I don't think you'd be disappointed with either version though.

Great value and functionality.

Duration Product Used:3 months
Price Paid: $15.00
Purchased At:costco
Strengths:full finger, tactile feel
Weaknesses:none
Similar Products Used:Pearl Izumi Outer Limits
Bottom Line:I used to swear by the PI outer limit glove b/c they had workglove leather, full fingered and could really take abuse. Since PI stopped making them, I was having trouble finding a replacement glove from all the other glove manufactures. I found these gloves at costco (and since have seen them at the auto parts store) and I love them. The closest thing to the outer limits (with a thinner tactile palm) than the PI. I hear that AXO licensed the the technology to these gloves and are marketing them as the "axo mechanixs" in europe. Have not seem em in the states - but who cares costco has them 2 for $30.

Submitted by GREG a weekend warrior from CALGREE,CANADA
Date Reviewed: October 9, 1998
Bottom Line:
These gloves are used by pit crews in auto racing. They have no padding, with a palm made of synthetic leather and full wrist protection. If you are a rider who likes a really precise feel, these are for you. I've used them for about two years and I swear by them. They are good for all conditions, with the exception of winter. They are also cheaper than most of the shwaggy gloves out there. If you can't find them at a bike shop, try and auto parts store.
