Price Paid: $39.00
Strengths:More armor around all the critical hand parts than you may ever need. Wrist protection is great especially when landing on them.
Weaknesses:If axo stops making these.
Similar Products Used:fox, specialized
Bottom Line:These gloves kick all other downhill gloves ass! This is by far the best downhill glove of all time and has saved my hands and wrist many of times crash after crash. I have socked boulders many of times and didn't even feel it. I really hope axo keeps making these because nothing else compares to the defenders as far as downhill/ freeriding protection.

Favorite Trail:Foxboro State Forest
Duration Product Used:1 Year
Price Paid: $20.00
Purchased At:EpiCycle
Strengths:Great protection and padding, very comfortable, they have prevented many potential occurences of skin loss to my hands. If you are a trail rider who abuses thier body frequently these are a must.
Weaknesses:No real weaknesses other than they do start to smell when you don't wash them, of course once your riding you can't smell them anyway. Some people have complained that they are hot but I don't really notice it. If you are riding the material lets through plenty of air to cool you down. Probably not the best glove for someone who just wants to ride straight up cross country, look for something a little cooler.
Similar Products Used:crappy specialized half finger gloves
Bike Setup:2000 Specialized Enduro
Bottom Line:These gloves are a great deal if you can find them for $25 or less, great protection and very comfortable. Full fingered gloves are the best, I will never go back.

Favorite Trail:Waller Mill
Duration Product Used:6 months
Price Paid: $24.00
Purchased At:REI Outlet
Strengths:Good protection, good grip, excellent fit, looks
Weaknesses:None
Similar Products Used:Pearl Izumi (non-full-fingered)
Bike Setup:Cannondale Killer V CAAD2, XT components
Bottom Line:I was looking for more hand protection after a crash that caused permanent hand damage. I know these gloves probably would not have lessened the damage much, but I now think full-fingered gloves are the only way to go. These gloves fit my large fingers perfectly. They offer excellent padding and rubber armor including along the backs of the fingers. Of course they are hotter than gloves without fingers, but I used them in the heat of Thailand and never thought about it. I can't find any fault in this product and recommend them to any type of rider. I've seen closeouts on these for $20 at Nashbar. If they still have any, I'll be purchasing a second pair for future use.

Favorite Trail:Chilterns
Duration Product Used:3 months
Purchased At:Cycle Surgery
Strengths:Good protection.
Look Good.
Comfortable.
Gel palm helps to reduce numbness.
toweling snot wipes.
Weaknesses:Can get a little hot.
The gel insert does not extend far enough over the lower outer palm.
Similar Products Used:Various gloves
Bike Setup:Airborne Lucky Strike.
Bottom Line:Very nice glove. Protects well in the event of a fall. The only time I've hurt myself with these was fallin heavily onto my palm on concrete (trying out my first set of clipless pedals and trying to do tricks - doh).

They can be washed, although follow the instructions. My friend has a pair of the yellow ones, he washed them too high and they came out camo green. Which actually looks pretty cool.

These gloves can get hot, but they are well padded and full finger.

Favorite Trail:anywhere the bike can travel
Duration Product Used:Less than 1 month
Price Paid: $25.00
Purchased At:LBS
Strengths:Good overall protection
Provides nice grip
Comfortable - fits like a, well...glove
Looks nice/rugged
Weaknesses:Velcro fastener can be a bit fiddly, especially when you're in a hurry. What's the UP arrows for? How many ways are there to wear these guys? :)
Similar Products Used:Nike, L.A. Paw (i know, i know, not cycling-specific but hey they helped to grip)
Bike Setup:Santa Cruz Superlight
Bottom Line:These gloves seem to be very well thought out. There's padding at the right places, e.g. heel and knife edge of the palms and the inner wrists. The synthetic leather also feels nice, very soft and flexible. I haven't taken a tumble with these things yet, so i can't say how tough they are, but they certainly look the business. The permeable material really allows the back of the hands to breathe, an important consideration for a hot and humid country like mine. They do get soaked by the end of a hard day's cycling, but they can be (and should be) washed to prevent odours. Apart from the fact that the tiny little velcro fasteners are a bear to open and close, i've also realised that the white terry lining can discolour if you do a dark wash in your machine, and that bothers me so i can't give it 5 flaming hotdogs. Apart from that, it's a great product. Buy it!
